I have waited OVER TWO YEARS to post this review because THAT IS HOW LONG IT HAS TAKEN MY HAIR TO RESTORE ITSELF BACK TO IT'S HEALTHY & INITIAL STATE AFTER SEEING WANDA MORA.
About three years ago I had seen Wanda Mora's work on Instagram & thought that her beach wave blowout & coloring talent was out of this world. I had already been going to a competing high-end salon, but because of her Instagram pictures I wanted to go & try out Mora Salon. In saying this, I believe I went three times total, & each time I had a color, cut, & blowout with Wanda herself. In saying this, I cannot speak for any other services or stylists at the salon, but WANDA is the owner so you would think that her services would be the best, as she represents the salon.
To preface this review, I naturally have very thick, wavy, and medium-brown hair. However, my hair is very, very manageable & extremely, extremely healthy. I barely use any heat on it, & I only use Oribe products, which Wanda does carry, so I take pride in my hair.
Honestly, the first two times I went to Wanda I asked for some type of brown-carpel-blonde ombre.
I also received a cut & blowout after both of these services. Again nothing special, but fine.
I went back a third time a few months later & wanted to do a light lavender ombre. At this point my roots were about an inch of light brown hair, & the rest of my hair was dyed to a medium blonde... not super light but not dark either. In my mind a light lavender color would have been achievable... but I am not the stylist or professional so I figured I would go & tell Wanda & let her decide. Upon arrival I told her what I wanted & she acted excited & said she was confidant I would be able to get the color I wanted. (She said this the prior times as well, before she told me may hair couldn't pull the certain color I wanted, so not sure why I believed her, but I did). So without further ado she had me washed (Ruthie washed me and to this day I remember that wash because I like heavy pressure & when I tell you this was a very, very, very rough head shampoo massage & rinse, I mean it) & put colors on my hair throughout the day. It has been awhile but I believe I had three different colors applied throughout the course of the day to achieve that light lavender color, which made sense. Well..... I never got that light lavender & no joke, 6 hours later I was "finished" & my hair was a silver tone... Wanda kept telling me that silver was more "in" & that she "lived" for this color on me, I shouldn't do lavender. TRUSTING HER & not wanting to spend a 7th, 8th, 9th hour in the salon, I left. Well... my friends saw me that night & laughed in my face because the color was so off.
The next day I called back & explained the situation & I was told to come first thing in the morning & Wanda could do the purple color.... like I wanted. When I arrived I told her the silver thing was not working & that no offense, I wanted what I asked for. I think I spent around $400 total for color, trim, blowout & over 6 hours... I felt like I deserved either justification ("Hey, we cannot get you to this color or if we do this it'll ruin your hair its not a good idea") or to receive the color. So with attitude Mora told me that she "gave me what I asked for" & I reminded her I wanted purple. With more attitude Mora laid the purple on top of the silver & her assistant at the time also gave me attitude. They were very, very rude & unprofessional. I know that they "fit" me in in the morning, but I was there for 6 hours the day before & just wanted what I asked for, especially paying all that money. I don't think that there was a need for the OWNER to be rude, thats a bad look.
Well needless to say it was like 2 hours later, & the purple was complete & I will not lie, it was not what I envisioned but it was lavender & it looked good! Wanda even ended up saying she was glad I came back because it turned out looking awesome .... well after that is where my 1 star review really starts....
I went to check out & I was charged an additional $90 or something around there. No offense but for the amount of time & money I spent the day before, I should have not been charged especially because she did what should have been done the day before & initially was rude about it.
Well... hundreds of dollars later & the color washed out 3 days later... Wanda should have told me that I could not achieve the color I wanted, especially in one day instead of pretending & taking my money.
ALSO, my very very very healthy hair was dead from the amount of processing & bleach that went into it in the course of 24 hours. It was dead. I had to switch salons and cut most of my hair off & it took over 2 years plus a lot of expensive salon products & conditioning treatments to fix. I mean I went from VERY healthy hair to straw hair & Wanda was the reason.
Thankfully I have naturally thick hair & its finally healthy again, but Wanda is a SCAM, OVERPRICED, & RUDE. read more
