    Mold growing on my pickle.

I would love to give Moosie's a better review because we have been coming here for years. However, today was such an utterly disappointing visit, all due to their hostess. We can in with 3 adults and 1 toddler (1 yr old) and they sat us at a 3 person table and wanted to stick the high chair on the corner of a square table where she wouldn't have been able to get close enough to eat and if she threw herself forward for any reason, she could seriously injure herself. So we explained that to her and asked for a bigger table that would accommodate the high chair. The hostess then decided she was done with us, set the menus down on a different table and walked off. We had to get the high chair and move some chairs around, not a big deal. The hostess then continued to run her mouth under her breath while seating others near us and would stand in the main area staring and giving us dirty looks and glaring. All because we wanted our toddler to be able to eat her lunch at the table in a safe area. I will say the waitress was wonderful. But it is very disheartening to have that be the face of your business and her attitude be the first thing people with kids experience when they enter the facility. Unfortunately the food was not up to par either, our food came out with what I thought was a hair on it but turned out to be mold growing on my food. (See picture below) I don't think we will be returning anytime soon.

Moosie's is such a staple at Smith Mountain Lake! The food and service are fantastic. Have a crowd to feed? Order the nachos! They'll satisfy! The onion rings are spot on. The sandwiches, delicious. The desserts are good too. If you're celebrating a birthday, be sure to let them know...you just might get a special birthday treat! Check out Moosie's, and try to get a table at a window over the lake. Such a great view!

Ambiance is casual. No outdoor seating but you can still hear the music playing at Mango's below. Their menu has some great choices if you're looking for a sandwich. I got Kyle's Kreation which is an Italian sub and the moosies punch both were very good. The service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was clean. Worth a stop.

Grant great bartender! Sooners beat Texas 34-30 and TVs were on the games creating a great sports atmosphere! I like the fries and beer is cold!

Visited on Memorial Day. First time back in YEARS. Was ready for a crap shoot due to the holiday and lake. Pleasantly surprised. We did arrive before the real lunch rush. Bartender took really good care of the 3 of us at a table while also tending bar, taking call ins, and helping seat folks. Food was delicious, drinks were wonderful. Aside from being aware they were busy and needed a bit more time than normal, it was a perfect visit.

    The Gobbler was delicious.

We had a birthday celebration for our friend, Jim, at Moosie's. It was wonderful. The service was good and the food was great. Jim had the Grilled Chicken Salad. Others in our group had the Gobbler that was pilled high with turkey; Funky Chicken with grilled chicken breast in a croissant; Moosie's Special with pilled high roast beef; and other dishes listed in the menu. The atmosphere was festive with birthday decorations we were allowed to put up. Several people stopped by our table to wish Jim a Happy Birthday. It was a nice celebration at a great restaurant.

Outstanding service and food. Ask for Brock and Sarah. I also recommend the sweet tea for people who are thirsty.

Popular place, especially when it's nice weather to eat outside. Unfortunately, because of covid they only had 3 small tables outside so the wait was very long. They told us 20 minutes and we waited for an hour. The menu is very extensive, especially if you're there for subs, they have anything you'd want! You cannot personalize your own though, it has to be what's on the menu. The sweet tea is delicious, and the food was good too! I would recommend. There isn't much to eat out in SML so this is a good option.

Old Oak Cafe is situated in a strip shopping center, but is designed to make you feel like you've stepped into someone's home. The back room houses a faux (I assume) fireplace and round oak dining tables. The southern hospitality we received from the staff is as inviting as the space. They also have a large bookshelf of children's picture books and activities. So thoughtful and a wonderful option for tablet-free families. Our first visit was around 11:30 am on a Sunday and there was about a 20-min wait with the post-church crowd. The interior waiting space was full so we opted to wait outside. They offer a buffet breakfast on the weekends for $14.99. It looked to have biscuits and gravy, eggs, a variety of meats and fruit. We opted for menu options. I noticed they offered foam plates for buffet-goers, which made me cringe. I hope they will consider changing to something more environmentally-friendly. We were greeted as soon as we sat and offered coffee. Our server on both visits were incredibly kind! On Sunday, our server was a bit slower with coffee refills, but it was incredibly busy so I understood why. On our first visit, hubs had the cinnamon sweet potato pancakes while I chose multigrain. Both were so fluffy and delicious! The sweet potato pancakes drew us back the next day. They were topped with a cinnamon sugar butter and fresh pecans. The flavor was out of this world! Even the multigrain pancakes were light, fluffy and so yummy. I got blueberry pancakes on my 2nd trip and wish I had ordered these. The blueberry, while tasty, were more dense and not quite as flavorful. The Sweet Potato and Multigrain pancakes are worth 5 stars alone, but the service and value set Old Oak Cafe over the top. I'm ready to plan another trip to SML solely for this breakfast!

We waited a long time just to order drinks, and our waitress, Maggie, had to come back and ask for our drink order again. Later, I ordered a salad to go, and it came out wrong. I asked Maggie to send it back, but after waiting 25 minutes, nothing happened. I eventually had to ask for a manager. Manager James never came to speak with me. I was told he was "too busy" and that I'd need to wait until he had time, blaming the delay on it being Mother's Day. However, the restaurant did not appear that busy--there were multiple empty tables. After another 10-15 minutes, I still never spoke with James, and only then did I finally receive the corrected salad to go. I spent $200.66 including tip, which is a lot to pay for this level of service. While the food itself was good, it was very overpriced for what you receive, and the lack of attentiveness and accountability from management ruined what should have been a special meal. Unfortunately, I would not return based on this experience.

I didn't pay attention to peppers bring in the burger or I would have requested that they be left off. The pieces were large enough that I was able to remove them. The cucumber dill sauce was good. The fries were decent. My guest had the chicken salad. She asked for salmon instead of chicken. She really enjoyed it. The server didn't mention that there was an $8 charge for the substitution. It would have been nice to have been informed. The poppy seed dressing was good. There were gaps in service since our server was over worked. I asked for help from others when I needed it. This is a popular location. Plan accordingly.
