I've been a regular customer of Moosie's at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia for ten years. Every time I go I have high hopes for a nice sandwhich and a ballgame. Every time I go I am treated like Rodney Dangerfield's second cousin's brother-in-law. It's as if I don't exist, sometimes taking up to 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge I have arrived...and that is sitting at the bar...at noon. The wait staff takes the term literally as you will wait 30 to 40 minutes for chicken salad on a croissant and a bag of chips. At least they always remember the pickle on the side. I am finally done with them and I suggest you stay away too unless you are willing to spend extra for Botox treatments to remove the aging wrinkles that creep onto your face as you wait for just average food. The food was above average and plentiful. The waitress was definitely challenged but tried hard to make our dinner nice. Forgotten drink orders, late refills and a mixed up entree were overcome eventually by a waitress that seemed a little disheveled. The waitress wore a mask over her mouth but kept it below her nose throughout the time we were in the restaurant. Moosie's is one of our favorite places to eat at Smith Mountain Lake. We stopped in this afternoon to have lunch and watch football. There are four tv's at the bar so you can keep up with all of the games while you eat. Or, sit in the outer room for the lake view where they've installed a gas fireplace. We ordered the prime rib sub that came with au jus and fries and they had free chicken chili you could help yourself to. Both were pretty good. read more

The sandwiches here are huge and really good - love the fresh hoagie rolls. I ate lunch here three days in a row while vacationing with family - veggie sub for me, philly cheese steak for a family member, cajun chicken for another, and roast beef and turkey on other days. We did gave to return the onion rings twice - cold both times. Friendly service, small selection of Virginia wines. On the water, but there really aren't great views. I came here to eat with my family while in town visiting. First, the table was dirty. We sat ourselves. The waitress acted like she was bothered any time we asked for anything! On a recent visit to Smith Mountain Lake, we were able to catch lunch at Moosie's. It was very good, and reasonable, The staff was very friendly, and the sandwiches were wonderful. I had the french dip roast beef, on recomendation from the waitress. I was not disappointed. My husband had the ruebin, he said it was the best he'd ever had. Moosie's has been a favorite go to place since we moved to SML in 2001. However, last week's visit was terrible. The place was crowded, but there was plenty of help. We waited way too long for service, and also for the food. The entree came at the same time as the soup, but no salad. When I was ready for my entree, it had been under hot lights for 20 min. - dried out. Food was mediocre. It is past time for a facelift for this place. The floor covering is old and very nasty. My water glass was chipped. A young boy (about 7 y.o.), came out of the bathroom, and announced to his mom, " I am never going back in there. There is body hair all over the place." read more

Let's face it: you're going to come here because you're at the lake and there are only a few places from which to choose. I came here with a group of guys on a Friday night. We were celebrating a bachelor party and this place marketed itself as a sports bar (compared to the other places around). We didn't have high hopes because we had a group of 10, but this place really dropped the ball. We weren't acting rowdy or being disrespectful, but we were trying to have a good time. It took our waitress 30 minutes to bring us our first round of beers and she didn't even check on us for a second round. The rest of the dining experience was similar to this. The roast beef sandwich was delicious. Many of the people who will eat will be visiting bridge water plaza. I recommend not coming here if you can. It's not terrible however it is not worth spending a lot of money here. Also do not expect the have everything go right. We found a French frie with what looked like a hair (pubic) on our "clean" table. It is constantly crowded, the food is thrown together in a manner similar to the food made in a savage Nigerian tribe. For example, my burger had a bun too small to fit a nice fat throbbing patty with toppings within it. The service is good however. Our server was dedicated and focused on doing her best. One of my favorite places to eat at the lake. Great lake views from the comforts of air conditioning. All the sandwiches are great. Can get busy during peak lake weekends and times. Not a bad place to garb a bite to eat. If you go during lunch or on weekends during typical busy hours you can expect to wait for a table, but usually not very long though. We've never had to wait longer than five or ten minutes for a table, when we have had to wait. It's not a very large place. Their menus consists mainly of sandwiches and burgers. You won't get french fries with anything here. Just a small bag of chips and a pickle. Food usually comes out in a reasonable amount of time. They have a small bar they keep separate from the dining room. Never been in there so I cannot comment on it. Food isn't bad. I've eaten there several times and have nothing to complain about when it comes to the food. My whole family enjoys going to Moosie's. Portions are decent. Service is decent. Like all places it depends on the person who serves you. read more

Worst Burger Ever........Onion Rings cooked in grease that had to be a month old. The burger, called the Moosie, is supposedly two 1/2 patties. I should have known something was terribly wrong when I asked for Medium Rare and the server informed me all the burgers came out well done. What the fuck? How is that possible? I think these pieces of crap are pre cooked and frozen. They were absent of any moisture, and the little flavor the burgers had was of cardboard. Stay away. read more

The major draw to this place is the view. It has a great view of the lake. The food is good not great. They have a wide selection of sandwiches. I usually get the French Dip sandwich, its good. Their service is not usually very good though. It is often quite slow and not very attentive. Love this place for lunch. It's really a sandwich restaurant that hits it out of the park for casual dining. Service was great and food was fresh and quick. Always fun to boat in and grab a bite. The waitress even offered to refill our drinks in a to go cup so we would have drinks for the ride home. If you are looking for a casual place and a great hot or cold sandwich this is a good choice.
