We Eat here about once a month when visiting my mom in Crockett. Moose head is definitely one of the best places to eat in Crockett. I see people are butthurt in the reviews about it having republican stuff inside. Well guess what it's a small town that's very conservative and it happens to be the republican headquarters of Houston county. It's a free country you can eat where you want no one made you eat there. Yes the waitress does say seat your self be right with you so what welcome to the country you city yuppies. I recommend this place for people you have a back bone and didn't vote for a commie for president. read more

We came to Crockett to check out the town. We stopped by mousehead kitchen and got the fried fish and chicken fried steak. Both were very good and portions were nice size. Talked with the owner or manager when checking out and told her saw her place on the day tripper. Been busy ever since the show. read more

The service was good but the food was bland. I thought I could tolerate the Alt-Right political posters and paraphernalia but it became oppressive as we waited for our food. There was even a Benghazi poster by our table. Never again! read more

We were just driving thru Crockett last Saturday and saw the Moosehead while going around the square. My husband had the special which was fried catfish, 10 medium sized pieces, coleslaw, pickled green tomatoes and tartar sauce, all seemed homemade, the tomato relish was so good we bought a jar to take home. I had a patty melt, one of the best I've had. Iced tea was great (the sign of a great local spot). Will stop anytime we go thru Crockett. read more

I really enjoyed eating here! The service was courteous and prompt and the food was very tasty. I had the chicken salad sandwich with onion rings and my husband had the moosehead ribeye sandwich. Both were delectable! This was a great lunch choice in Crockett. read more

My wife and I eat here a lot and have never had a bad experience. We normally order the double meat cheese burger. And every time we walk in no matter where we sit almost every server there knows our order. I have eaten most of their menu and nothing on is ever bad actually except catfish (just do not like catfish) I will eat anything that they sever. Super friendly staff always asks how my wife and I are doing and talks with us, but never are rude or interrupt our personal conversations or while we are eating. This easily could be a high end restaurant if they chose to be. Great mom and pop place proves that going off the normal grid for restaurants pays off. read more

Saturday lunch here. Been here a few times when in town. Good home cooking. I went all out and got CFS with fries. It was great. Old fashioned taste. I know the burgers are great well. I have never posted a negative review on Yelp, but after today, I feel I must. My wife and I stopped for lunch and had the special, chicken and dressing with green beans. There was not any chicken in the dressing. The green beans were right out of the can, no flavor at all, and an old cold dinner roll right out of the package. A little dab of cranberry sauce set it off. My wife barely touched her plate. The old-time store front with the doors open and locals seated inside sucked me in. Agreed-I felt like I was at my Granny Ora Lee's eating her chicken and dumplings. This is the first time I've had dumplings as good as hers since she passed 17 years ago. The meatloaf was good too. read more

Always a good lunch stop. The catfish special was cooked just right. French fries were fine. Cole slaw was drier than what many places serve, but that's not a bad thing. Iced tea was cold and tasty. Service was fine, too. Good stop for lunch! read more

We were staying in Crockett for a few days and decided to try a local cafe instead of a fast food restaurant , BIG Mistake...we walked in to the moosehead cafe and was greeted with a waitress shouting "seat yourselves" we made our way to an open table and had a seat, the waitress came over and gave us our menus and asked what we wanted to drink, as the first person in our party of 3 began to say what they wanted, the waitress turned her back to us and walked over to a nearby table, she returned within a few minutes and took the first persons drink order, and then decided to go answer a ringing phone, she returned a few moments later to finish our drink order. when we received our drinks there was a dead moth in one of the ice cubes floating in the top of one of the waters....YUCK....we go our food...fries were cold, burgers were decent......our waitress never decided to return and see if we needed anything or to refill our drinks. I have dined in hundreds of restaurants all over America, and have NEVER had such horrible service......in the slim chance we ever return to Crockett,TX, We will never return to the "Moosehead Cafe" read more

We (two of us) stopped at the Moosehead Cafe for lunch; the young lady behind the counter said we could seat ourselves, so menu in hand, we did. We read the menu, decided what we wanted to order and waited for the server, and waited, and waited. There appeared to be one and maybe two servers, neither one busy, the restaurant wasn't crowded at all. The booths on either side of us seemed to be waiting (and waiting), too, one seated before we came in and the other just after. Finally we gave up and left, went to a Sonic on the loop (where we found great service and really good burgers). read more

I had the chicken fried steak on a bun and it was delicious! The breading held onto the meat and it was super crispy and not greasy at all. I only gave it 4 bc most selections on the menu were sandwiches and I wasn't impressed with the special on the Thursday we went there. My son and I are from Minnesota and we were in Crockett hunting on New Years day. We stopped in for breakfast and the food reminded me of how my mother used to make sausage and eggs with sausage gravy. Both my son and I give the food a five star rating. The service, now if we could, we would give the service a ten star rating. The folks at the Moosehead Café remind me that there are still people in this country that truly take pride in what they do and how they do it. I don't think I have ever met nicer people. We will be back in the Crocket area in March and we will make it a point to stop for breakfast and lunch. I can't wait! read more

I wll never go there again. The service was the worst I have ever had. There were only 4 of us and it took 20 minutes to get the drinks. We had ordered them twice. The food that should have been hot was cold. If you order the catfish (which was tough), you get one small thing of tartar sauce. We asked for one more and they took the ticket back and added almost a dollar to the ticket. When mentioning the complaints to management, there response was just that yes, they are used to it. read more

I was passing through Crockett today and decided to try the Moosehead Cafe. I asked the lady at the register whether to seat myself or wait. I was alone and she said to sit wherever I liked, suggesting I might like to eat at the lunch counter, which was fine with me. I sat there and waited about 5 minutes or so and was never greeted by a waitress even though one visited with a man a few stools down who was finishing up and many walked past me. I finally left--I'll never know if the food was good or not. I was pretty hungry, but went on to Madisonville to eat. read more
