Parking is not free - it's $8 for Mass. plates, I'm not sure how much for out of state if it's different. It's such a small spot that this price feels a little high. There are some Adirondack chairs overlooking the water and some picnic tables (although they were all full when I visited), as well as an area for fishers to stand shin deep in the water, and a small beach. The bathroom facilities are a little outdated but clean. This was a pleasant spot to spend some time, but what's making me take off some stars is the bizarrely small area that's buoy-ed off for swimming. I came since my research showed this was a good spot to swim in the area, but the space marked off for swimming is so shallow and tiny that it seems more geared towards children only? I'm certain if I had tried to swim that I would immediately have felt like it wasn't enough space and tried to swim beyond the buoys. While the sand was nicely raked and manicured, although full of small rocks, it as well as the wheelchair path were covered in goose/duck poop that spread into the water, making me think it was very unhygienic. I'll swim pretty much anywhere, but sadly these two elements made me uncomfortable with doing it here. This would be a nice spot for a picnic or just to get some toes in the sand and hang out in the sunshine, but can't say I'd recommend it for swimming, even though the water felt warm when I dipped my toes in. It'd be so much nicer if they stayed on top of the bird dropping situation.

The group site can accommodate up to 15 people. We had 12 and were MORE than comfortable. The site was large enough for all 6 of our tents and a canopy and could have accommodated more. There was plenty of grass and mulch to set up on, as well as ample space for parking, 2 fire pits, 2 picnic tables and an extra large grill, making it easy to cook for a big group. It was also far enough from other campsites to avoid bothering them, which we were concerned about with 12 young adults. It was located very close to the ranger station which had toilets but no showers. I never checked out the showers because we only stayed 2 nights but the bathrooms we used were clean and well kept. A few bugs in them late at night but that can't really be helped. The mosquitos were present but not as bad as some of the reviews I read suggested. Between the fire, a repelling device and bug spray we were not getting eaten alive. My friend did find one tick but caught it before it burrowed luckily. Just make sure you're checking for ticks each night. Some of the group went hiking which they said was lovely with pretty views. We checked out the beach which was a short walk from the group site. It was mainly set up for kids with a shallow roped off area, though there would have been nothing stopping you from climbing under the rope if you wanted to go for more of a swim. The water was still very cold that early in the season so I didn't get past my ankles. People were also fishing and launching kayaks near the beach. The park was pretty busy the whole weekend, so definitely not a secluded backwoods vibe, which was fine by me since I haven't camped much. I also appreciated the close proximity to Walmart which was useful for getting ice when we ran out. There is also a liquor store a short drive from the campsite, though officially alcohol is not allowed. All in all I would definitely come back here and reserve the group site again. It was an awesome trip for our larger group of friends.

Nets and hoops…read more Goodale Park was established back in 1911 and back then it was only a open area suitable for a little stroll or perhaps a picnic. Like many old parks it has evolved and changed over the years. Now it's a huge sports complex complete with very nice baseball fields, running track, soccer and football fields, a pavilion for picnics and some superb tennis and basketball courts. The hoop and tennis courts were renovated a few years ago in honor of the park's centennial celebration and now are some of the finest courts in the area. Unfortunately this also means they courts can be extremely crowded at times and difficult to get playing time on. The park also has music at various times during the summer and benches to sit and watch the sporting activities. A very pleasant park with a whole lot to do.
