Went to lunch with my brother and 2 of his friends. Stephanie was very friendly and very attentive. The lunch was so yummy. Three of us had the short ribs and they were delicious and meat fell apart didn't need a fork. I live in Los Angeles and was really happy with this pick! Thank you! read more

I am impressed and I shall return! They have something that is hard to find these days - a classic burger! If a person wants one with cheese, they just need to order the The Pennsport Burger. This makes it fair for us lactose intolerant people, because we are not having to pay $16 for a burger that has cheese we cannot eat. Instead, we order a classic burger for $13 and it is quite good! Most places in philly have tried to get me to pay for the burger with cheese price and they become angry when I say "No thank you, I will not pay for cheese that I'm not going to eat, so I will refrain from ordering". Then I walk out. Some of them offer to refrain from adding the cheese, but they still want me to pay for the cheese. Outrageous. Anyhow, Moonshine has a new fan because they are not unethical. Oh, and their drinks selection is good, and the service is fantastic. read more

Great lil classic south Philly pub with some decent food and good prices. They have some classic bar food and also entrees. Decent beer list and also some great cocktail options to try, which are so awesomely priced you definitely should try! Quizzo on Tuesdays is a fun crowd and quite challenging. Had the signature Pennsport Burger which was amazing - perfectly grilled. Generous serving of tots too. Orange creamsicle cocktail was also just great as a sweet treat in the summer. Good spot thanks. read more

We come here entirely too much. It's a great neighborhood bar that has live music and always has whatever Philadelphia sports game is playing on. They also do Quizzo and comedy nights so fun. I always get buffalo wings and loaded tater tots. Buffalo cauliflower when they have it is really good. Tomato soup and grilled cheese or hummus plate are good options too. They have a deal like every week day. Everyone is super nice, shout out to Ryan and Crystal! There is outdoor seating you can bring your pups too. read more

We stopped in for lunch this afternoon and it was okay. The service was prompt and efficient. Some of the midday patrons were loud but I guess in a bar it's fine. The food was okay. I ordered the Pennsport burger and tots. The burger was good but the tots tasted like the freezer. read more

Casual spot, good for groups. Staff was attentive and stopped by multiple times to make sure we had everything we needed. I tried the white sangria and chicken pesto gnocchi. The gnocchi was pretty good and flavorful - though a bit on the salty side. They have outdoor seating and there was a live musician which was fun. read more

Great little bar! Walk in your greeted with the bar and this night there was live music playing. Continue past the bar into a small dining room which leads to another dining room. Awesome service, super friendly and fun. This night we just hit the place for drinks and apps. Large beer list, and a lot of moonshine infused cocktails. The moonshine orangesickle was amazing. They also had some moonshine barbecue wings which were delicious as well as the brussel sprouts and the calamari. Other food we saw going out looked really good as well. read more

Good food. Recommend off the specials we got fish tacos and tortilla chicken soup. Fish tacos were great. Also got some fries and they were HOT. and delicious. Tortilla soup was not hit though. Barely warm don't know what happened. But it was really good so I ate it super fast. I also got the manhattan jack Daniel's special. I was warned they don't make good manhattans and that was quite true. To me it tasted like a dirty sock and watered down. lol but once I drank half of it the liquor kicked in and I stopped caring so much. But I normally make it at home with an American rye whiskey like bulleit and sweet red vermouth and bitters, which I was not getting notes of vermouth at all in this manhattan and whiskey wasn't strong. Anywho I still really like coming here and catching some live music too read more

One of my to go place for drinks and brunch previously but recently has been one of my favorite place to go for spring, summer and early fall because they are dog friendly outside. Might be too cold for late fall and winter for outdoor. Drinks are always delicious and strong -- I've had just classic amaretto sour, margaritas and mimosa to their menu drinks item the blackberry lemonade, watermelon margarita and state of mine. The food hasn't disappointed me yet. I've had the chicken & waffle, burgers, the omelette and probably more things that I can't remember but everything has been good and reasonably priced. I've always mostly good service as well. When I have my dog, we are offered water which is never necessary but awesome. Will be back soon. read more

The food and the restaurant were great ! I would say the service was pretty good too although sometimes the woman server seemed inattentive to us as she was to other patron. The ambiance was cool just like a regular bar in the hood. I don't think I'll be back tho at least not anytime soon. read more

Love the outdoor seating but the food leaves more to be desired. Have had the chicken sandwich before which was good. The mac and cheese doesn't really seem like mac, moreso just bow ties in a bland cheese sauce. The chicken with it made it more flavorful. Ordered the classic burger and asked for it medium and it came well done. Honestly not sure if this is a place the actually takes temperatures for burgers based on the look of the patty. Tots were good though! read more

I was just passing by and hungry so I get an order to go, tried thier crab cake sliders and it was delicious! Definitely would be back again for it. Looks like a chill neighborhood bar! And they have outdoor seating as well if that's what you prefer! read more

Been here a few times and disappointed each time I want to love this place but i just can't. Service is ok and the location is awesome. But the food and drink has been consistently terrible. Once ordered Meatloaf Au Poivre... which seemed like a great idea. And while the sauce and meatloaf where probably really good - whomever prepared it took the pepper part of the recipe way to far... the entire plate was covered in whole, uncooked black peppercorns making it inedible :( I wasn't sure if it was a joke or not. Again it's in a great spot so I've been back - but each time I've ordered something it's been tough to finish. I'm not a picky eater and have brought other folks who say the same. Hopefully one day I'll end up there and it will be amazing!! read more

You must go. In SoPhilly and they have parking!! Totally unassuming corner place, bigger inside than you think. Def neighborhood bar but an amazing menu so so many things to choose from to please all palates. Ask about specials they are a winner, solid drinks too. Oh I'm telling everyone about them. Knowledgeable servers who have pretty much eaten everything there because they been with them for some time. And they have a few tvs with sports on for ya too. Go go now. You won't be disappointed. And the wings crispy, fries perfect and the chicken picatta ravioli.... Oooohhh weeee. They keep it crispy under the sauce, ravioli perfectly cooked. Fresh mozzarella sticks and the creamy balsamic on the salad--- yum!! read more

Checking out what could possibly be our new neighborhood and wanted to try Moonshine for quite a while. Luckily it was a nice breezy summer day. Not scorching hot & humid. Not a fan of outside seating but it was such a nice day we opted to soak up the atmosphere. So nice to see all types of families with children, pups and each enjoying the their day. Started with a couple of Cocktails - they had me at $5 Bloody Mary's- and an Orange Mooncicle (highly recommended!) Brunch was Chicken & waffles and a chicken Sammie. Both cooked to perfection. Ample portions & a nice honey glaze on the chicken. The star of the day was the staff. All were kind, accommodating, and knowledgeable. It really will be what brings us back including a turn at the jukebox & the expansive dinner menu. Fat chik review: 4 double chins )))) - good armless seating, table to thigh ratio & didn't have to ask. (In case you are new to my feed 4 double chins is a 5* equivalent) We'll be back and perhaps dragging some folks with us. read more

Moonshine Philly - Braised Short Rib w/ Mac n Cheese and Asparagus - Gastropubs Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Enjoyed the wide sidewalk along Moyamensing Avenue, which lent itself to comfortable dining al fresco along with the plentiful heat lamps and a blue-stone firepit located near our table.* Overall, service was pleasant, if a bit haphazard**. We enjoyed two appetizers: fried pickles and cheesesteak queso. Would get the fried pickles again--nice, light batter, and good flavor. Would not get the cheesesteak queso again--nothing special and the cheese congealed too quickly in the cool, autumn weather. The various burgers the table ordered were tasty (and messy!) and between the hand cut fries and the tater tots, the fries won hands down--tots could've used more time in the oven. The drinks were good, though they were out of the two types of Knob Creek listed on the menu. Could see how Moonshine Philly would be a nice neighborhood watering hole. *Both ran out of propane as we were wrapping our meal. **One order was entered incorrectly and had to ask a few times for hot sauce, which was said to be tabasco, but was in fact sriracha. read more

What an eclectic crowd this place draws most unusual as I looked around, no matter I was there for a late lunch. I was quite satisfied with the burger I ordered, it was slightly overcooked but tasted alright. Others in our party remarked that while their food was just okay it wasn't quite what it use to be and felt the place had slipped a bit. Still another wasn't satisfied at all with the avocado, tomato grilled cheese sandwich and I had to agree. The bread was barely warm, cheese wasn't melted, the center was stone cold, it never should have left the kitchen like that. The apps on the other hand were good, fried calamari with an Asian dipping sauce and the loaded fries were a hit. There is nothing memorable about our dining experience that would beckon a return visit. read more

They have a nice selection of drinks but unfortunately some come in very small servings for the cost especially the wine and Tennessee wildfire. The blackberry lemonade was great though and a decent amount! As for food, I've only tried to sweet potato fries and they were good, also in a good sized portion. My dining partner got the Brussels sprouts and she thought they were delicious. They have heat lamps so we sat outside in a very nice patio! As of Jan 2021 they do have limited indoor dining as well but we felt more comfortable outside. read more

We love moonshine!!!! It's very close by which is obviously a plus lol but they're also usually open when i wait too late and need a bite to eat. Fun neighborhood bar and grill! Came here for some St. Paddy's day action and it was a fun vibe. The place is intermixed with residential buildings but the signage is clear so you can't miss it. We found street parking not too far and walked over. Outside I noticed they had their outdoor seating prepped, and some heat lamps (that were off when we arrived). Looks like it would be a fun place for some outdoor nomming and people watching in better weather. Inside it's a Irish pub atmosphere - which was a perfect place to be for St. Paddy's day. There was some live music being played, and a decent crowd. It wasn't too packed or too empty, so ambiance was comfortable. We sat at the bar and ordered a round of spicy Bloody Mary's (yes spicy), and a hummus platter. The server was very generous with the vodka in the Marys and the hummus was perfectly shareable for two! Overall, great service - quick and casual. This place was recommended by a friend for brunch and it definitely looks like it can serve it up. I'm glad I had a chance to pop in and hoping to come back here for a full on brunch-a-thon when the weather gets better. read more

Weird that I still haven't reviewed moonshine. It's fairly close to where I live and I've been plenty of times, sitting indoors, outdoors, or getting takeout. It's not always great but I'm obsessed with the blackened chicken and pesto gnocchi. The chicken sandwich and burger and fries are all good, but I won't order anything besides the gnocchi. It's just what I want! read more

Great cheese burger egg rolls and definitely a diamond in the rough type of place. I would highly suggest if you are in the area.

My husband and I decided to try this place based on all the wonderful reviews! We made a reservation for 7pm in a Saturday. They have a cute outdoor dining area set up in front. They also have a few reserved parking spots in the lot adjacent to the restaurant which is really nice! Especially considering the subway doesn't stop near this area. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. They had $5 Bloody Mary specials so I had one. It was ok, a little spicy, but it was solid. The food menu has a lot of choices. I was kind of hoping for something a bit light, without ordering a salad, and that was a challenge since everything on the menu is pretty much comfort food. I decided on the short rib dip, and my husband had the short rib dinner with Mac and cheese. Our food came out quickly! My short rib sandwich was really good! The fries were crispy, but lacked seasoning. My husband's short rib was good, but the Mac and cheese was horrible! It tasted like it had been grilled. It tasted charred and burnt-Smokey, not like they used smoked cheese or something, but like they had somehow put it on a grill and burned the life out it. So, unfortunately his Mac and cheese went to waste. Overall, we had a nice time. The food was ok, not amazing, but ok. The service was good and friendly. We probably won't go back, but we are glad we tried it! read more

Moonshine is a great place to enjoy a good meal outside when the weather is nice (though I'm sure eating inside is just as enjoyable). They were quite busy on a nice Friday night but service was still quick and very friendly. Prices for delicious food are reasonable. I really enjoyed the cheesesteak queso, the fried chicken sandwich (the pepper relish was so good!) with perfectly cooked fries, and the French onion soup (quite salty, but really tasty). Will absolutely return! read more

Found this cute neighboor place while I was out shopping. At the beginning our service wasn't the greatest and we almost got up to go but decided to stay based on the reviews we read about the food. It took a while for someone to come out to our table and it was clean. Once the waitress came out we made sure to put in all our orders at once so we wouldn't have to wait again for her to come out .... We sat there for a pretty long time and the place was empty. We order a bunch of appetizer and they were all good. Entree was ok. Asiago chicken with risotto. Make sure to ask for the happy hour menu .. was not offered to us and we definitely would've tried some of their options. All in all food was good but service was super slow read more

Recently dined here on a Fri night after getting multiple gift cards for them from an event. I had never heard of Moonshine nor been the Pennsport area before, but decided this was a great opportunity to check it out. Getting the table was a breeze during prime weekend hours and service was extraordinarily nice! The food is the reason I'm giving it only 3 stars though. The food was SO salty. We ordered the French onion soup (tasted great but too salty), their flagship blackened chicken on pesto gnocchi (again would be much better with less salt), cheeseburger with added cheddar and avocado (meat wasn't good at all and fries were too salty), and the surf and turf comprised of steak and shrimp (steak tasted cheap, shrimp good, potatoes were OK). The vibe of the place was casual neighborhood bar and represented the population of the nearby area well. Overall 3/5 read more

Great food, Great drink selection, Great atmosphere, and very friendly service. Go here before you go to see the game.

Everything was great. Good food, good atmosphere very friendly. The service was wonderful and the drinks were spot on. Try them out!

We came here on a whim for dinner one night. We asked to sit outside and they kind of placed us all the way in the back where we were kind of forgotten about. To start we got the lunar sangria and fried pickles. They were both delicious. For dinner I got the chicken piccata ravioli. It was very flavorful but the ravioli were a little under cooked. My partner got the crispy chicken sandwich which was super tasty as well. I would have given this place 5 stars but the service needs to improve. read more
