Tried this truck at Foster City Off the Grid tonight, disappointed. I ordered the lobster club with the duck fat fries. I think it was supposed to have some sauce/spread on it as well, but there was nothing on the bread. The sandwich was dry, and not very much lobster, nor bacon. The fries were good. I did appreciate that the cost was much less than some lobster sandwiches, but given how much there was, it really wasn't very different. I guess I should have read the reviews and gotten the clam chowder instead. read more

Wow. From time to time, I encounter a business I want to praise on Yelp. They are so good, I start to think about how to help them. This is such an occasion. They make me wonder what is wrong with them, they are doing it so well, or, really, what is wrong with everyone else. This is a food truck serving seafood. I had a lobster roll. It came with duck fat french fries. I added a small clam chowder. The lady in front of me had done that. So here is the deal. The quantity and quality, if you plotted it on a graph relative to competitors, make this the best. The amount of very good food is just unsurpassed. I am always honest. Is this the best I have ever had? No. Is it the most? No. But the combination? Absolutely. They are in the running for second best and second most. Usually if it's great, it's meager. If it's generous, it's so so. That is why this operation stands out. I recommend with utmost enthusiasm. An addendum. I am partial to mom and pop entrepreneurs. This is why. These folks are putting their all into it. I'm not sure who they are, but they deserve patronage. read more

I don't know man, but the fries and chowder was just meh to me. The guy who rang me up forgot to give my change and closed the drawer so I had to wait additionally for him to figure that part out. Some advice: You guys need to yell or speak louder when you call out order #'s. Nobody could even make out what you were saying. Small pieces of fish for $13, expected a bit more substance as compared to a fish n chip place. Glad I got 3 pieces vs 2. Maybe the fillets were from a tiny fish? Idk. The fish were tender and flaky inside. The batter was minimal which I appreciated but wasn't really crunchy. The sauces: cocktail, mustard and an aioli were delightfully tasty. However the fries were full of oil and a bit too much garlic for my taste. All I could taste after a few fries was a garlic undertone to the sauces. Tempted to try their other offerings maybe the crab sandwich or calamari. But I think I would pass on the fish and chips next time. read more

I visited the food truck at Spark Social. 3 Piece Fish & Chios ($13) - The portion size was okay, but the fish was not crispy and was almost flavorless. Thank goodness they give you an array of sauces. The fries were pretty soggy as well and were cut in very small (pieces about the size of an inch). We felt like we were eating crumbs at the bottom of a fries basket. 3 Piece Coconut Shrimp & Fries ($13) - Definitely overpriced. It's basically 3 regular sized shrimp with so much coconut batter to make it look a lot bigger. I normally like coconut shrimp, but these were way too sweet for my liking. read more

I just tried Moonraker Food Truck for the first time at Willow Market in Menlo Park. I can't wait for them to return. This was by far the best food truck meal I have ever had (and I am a total food truck foodie)!! I had the coconut battered shrimp with guava sauce which were delicious accompanied by duck fat fries. I rarely order french fries since they are rarely worth it, but these were amazing. The duck fat contributed so much flavor that I didn't even use the ketchup. They were crisp with pieces of potato skin left on. A fabulous meal that would cost 2-3 times as much in a restaurant! read more

I have eaten at the original restaurant in Pacifica and really like it. However - their food truck is another story. I ordered the Maine Lobster Club and got 1/4 or if you're generous 1/2 of a sandwich for $11.50. I am trying to temper my expectations given the price but still. Absolutely minimal lobster, on 1/4 a piece of toast and maybe a handful of fries. I would love to comment on the taste of the lobster but 1/2 of my 1/4 of a sandwich didn't have any. This is actually the first time I am going out of my way to review a food establishment to warn STAY AWAY! Should have read the lobster roll (club) review first. One side of the Lobster Club had such a small piece of lobster that it was just big enough for the tooth pick to hold it in place, along with the awkwardly placed crunchy piece of bacon. It's like they used a frozen bag of Costco lobster bits, thawed them out and slapped them together with some toasted Wonderbread and tomato. Clam Chowder was probably the worst I've ever had. Just too exhausted to go into detail... Must be store bought and microwaved... The fries however were solid and helped complete the seizing of my stomach for the night. read more

Tried Moonraker at Off the Grid in San Carlos (Devils Canyon) - the worst and most flavorless fish and chips I've ever had. Truffle oil fries were OK but too salty. Calamari was bearable. Will not try again. read more

I was shocked when I received a very small clam chowder soup after paying 12 bucks for it. You would expect that they would give you a large soup for that price and it would be filling enough for a lunch. With some real bread instead of a few crumbs. They advertise themselves as fresh seafood but they end up frying up everything which hides the real flavour of the "fresh" sea product anyway. Do not recommend, check other food trucks, there is better out there. read more

Went to this food truck last night. I ordered the lobster club and clam chowder. The clam chowder was thin but nice. The lobster club was terrible- about 1 oz. of canned lobster meat and all you could taste was tomato and mustard as there was not much else. Not impressed at all. First off I would like to say that the look of the actual truck is more appealing then most of the usual white food trucks. I am a frequent visitor to the actual restaurant in pacifica, and I am so happy that they finally have a food truck. A smart move for some great food. I don't know what Lindsay is talking about, but the Lobster club, is one of my favorites! It is a bit small, but it makes up with it's unique taste! The clam chowder is my all time favorite! There is so much going on! Not like your typical clam chowder with just a little bit of clams and potatoes. Amongst other ingredients, There is actual bacon bits in there! Omg! Lol. Oh where do I begin? Pictures on their menu looks great, however, as they say looks can be deceiving. Went to OTG San Carlos (Devils Canyon Brewery) and ordered Beer Battered Fish & Chips 2 pieces ($11) and their Lobster Club sandwich. I don't know why I didn't take a picture but what we got was a BIG disappointment. The lobster club sandwich had NO lobster what it did have looked like crab flakes not even a half teaspoon of it, no whole lobster meat like the picture, and to top it off you get only 2 little triangles meaning you get a half a sandwich for $11.50 the fries were the best thing in those boxes. Pretty bad that you're better off going to McDonalds for their fillet o fish lol! I know seafood is expensive but shame on them for the food they serve and for the prices they charge. OTG (Off the Grid SF) should periodically monitor offerings from the trucks they have in their line up as they affect them too. read more

Pricey which for seafood you rationalize it's worth it. The first time I had the fish and chips it was totally worth it. The second time I had tiny pieces of fish. I decided to give them another try this time I got the lobster club and was totally disappointed. Mostly bread. Why they needed three slices of bread for this sandwich is beyond me. Fish had more breading than fish inside, lobster club was stingy on lobster, portioning was interesting, I was served a three quarters of a sandwich and finally fries on both orders were stone cold and overcooked. Of all the food trucks I've ever been to, this was my favorite! I've been to the restaurant several times and the staff is just as welcoming as those at their restaurant. The food lives up to the quality of the restaurant's as well. Everything was hot, flavorful and FRESH!! Like it came from the kitchen. If you haven't had their chowder, take my word for it: it's the BEST! It's not a typical a bowl with 80% potatoes and just a few pieces of clams! I decided to stop by the "Off the Grid" event at Stonestown Mall Saturday afternoon to have a bite to eat. The venue was a bit different than the other "Off The Grid" events I've been too since it was slightly smaller and more intimate (which I actually prefer). I was pleasantly surprised to see the Moonraker had a food truck since I have eaten at their scenic restaurant there off HWY 1 in Pacifica. Knowing their restaurant had fantastic seafood I decided "what the heck" their food-truck must be just as tasty... and let me tell you, what a great decision it was. I went with the 3pc fish and chips and what can I say... It was delicious, well made and overall a satisfying meal. It really was a great experience, I happened to speak with one of the owners and Co-founders, Gary McNamara, who really has a passion for providing a quality, well sourced menu. Gary and the rest of the Moonraker food-truck staff were very accommodating and quick to serve.
