I had a very disappointing and concerning experience at this vet office and would strongly caution others before bringing their pets here, especially if you have a working dog breed. During our visit with Dr. Hackett, I felt like I was unnecessarily alarmed and pushed toward additional testing that turned out to be completely unnecessary. I brought in my two dogs, including my Border Collie, whose heart rate Dr. Hackett immediately treated as a serious concern. She made it sound like something could be very wrong and suggested multiple tests to rule out an emergency situation. My border collie also gets seizures which I told Dr. Hackett about and she told me she thought they are fainting spells due to his low heart rate, not seizures. Which I also got confirmations he definitely has seizures and nothing else like she suggested. After leaving very worried, I sought second opinions from other veterinarians. They all reassured me that my Border Collie's heart rate was completely normal for the breed and that they have seen even lower heart rates in athletic dogs like him despite his seizures. What was presented to me as potentially alarming was actually very typical. The same thing happened with my senior dog. Dr. Hackett told me her kidney and liver values were elevated and strongly pushed further testing, making it sound urgent. When I had another vet review the labs, they explained the values were only slightly elevated and extremely common in older dogs. They even told me she is far more likely to pass from old age before those numbers would ever reach liver failure levels. They also mentioned the slight elevation could simply be due to her high-protein diet. The experience left me feeling like fear was used to push unnecessary testing rather than providing balanced, knowledgeable guidance. It caused a lot of unnecessary stress and extra expense. Because of this, I would personally recommend seeking care elsewhere and getting a second opinion if you are ever told something is urgently wrong here. read more

My cat Charlie required immediate care and ultimately surgery on 8-13-25. I was so scared that I was going to lose Charlie. He hid in a large bush but was meowing in pain. He finally came out a few hours later, with help from several neighbors. He needed urgent help and I started at my neighborhood vet, Rancho San Carlos Pet Clinic. Charlie and I were offered immediate assistance. All of the staff were so kind and showed great care as we determined Charlie's injuries. They were calm, and therefore, he was calm. After X-rays and CT of his organs, he showed that he had no broken bones or punctured organs/internal bleeding! However, he did require reattachment of his skin to his bones on one of his hind legs and stitches on his other leg. A huge thanks to Dr. Halsey and her team and we were sent quickly to Tell Tail Moonlight Veterinary Center in Encinitas, where they were ready and waiting for Charlie! The office staff was also very kind and caring and the facility is very clean-I didn't even detect that it was a veterinary center with my nose. Dr. Soares was very thoughtful and thorough explaining the surgery plan, and her team successfully completed the surgery, as well as a toe amputation. They worked on him well past closing time. Veterinary angels, if you ask me! Hands down, I would give my highest recommendation to both of these businesses for your veterinary needs. I saw a lot of happy pets and happy owners that day while I waited for Charlie! I'm a huge fan! read more

Moonlight veterinarian center became our vet for a short month and a half. We worked with Dr. Halsey with my dog for treatment of spinal issues, arthritis, issues, underlining, health concerns. My dog to give you a little bit of a background was just shy of 16 years old. He was suffering from spinal problems, arthritic, myopathy, heart murmur possible, basically was slowing down. He had been on gabapentin for years, and everything under the sun that was the new medication. Unfortunately, since it was neurology, none of it mattered. I reached out to Dr. Halsey, wanting a second opinion where we were able to come up with a plan to keep him comfortable with prednisone, gabapentin, red, light therapy, and acupuncture every week when it was time to let him go, he only showed pains/ anxiety in his breath for about 45 minutes thank god I was able to get him in on a Saturday in the evening. I was very lucky to go there and be able to let my boy go with their my family members and the caring staff at Moonlight Vets Dr. Halsey and her staff went above and beyond in this moment of exiting for my boy. The healthcare that she did provide for him during the short period that we were patient was amazing. She was compassionate. She sat on the ground and spoke with him. you could tell that she really does care about the animal. Their facility is clean. It's staff is also very compassionate, it takes time to listen to you, no matter what your question is and how long which I feel is very important to people when it comes to their loving pets I want to say thank you to them for making this transition easierand I also want to say thank you. My dog loved the therapy. I only wish I would've thought about it sooner and found Dr. Halsey I feel my dog could've had even more of a quality life. Thank you. read more

This morning my dog ripped his dew claw and was bleeding a lot. I called as soon as they opened and they were able to fit me in within the hour. Dr. Halsey fixed him up in 20 minutes! We recently changed veterinarians and went to Moonlight Veterinary. This was the best decision we've made. The doctor's, technicians and front office staff were extremely kind and listened to us without judgment. They found out my fur baby, Abby, had high levels of bacteria due to a tick disease which absolutely hit me like a train. All of our dogs have always been on flea and tick prevention, but nothing is 100%. They immediately started her on an antibiotic to kill this in her system. The doctor and staff took time to explain everything to us as we were extremely fearful of losing her. I am already a huge fan of Dr. Halsey and her other two veterinary practices -- Rancho San Carlos Pet Clinic and Tell Tail Veterinary Urgent Care, both of which are within about 3 miles of us. When our shih tzu Zorro started limping because of a tender toe on Sunday, we decided to wait until Monday to see if he could be seen by either location because the toe wasn't terrible and we wanted to go somewhere that knew his history. But unfortunately, by Monday morning, his toe was red and angry so he had to be seen ASAP. They recommended going to Moonlight as soon as they opened at 11am so he could be seen immediately. We weren't thrilled about driving 30 miles, but wow, this facility is as good as it gets -- it even has an elevator from the parking garage to the lobby, and it has a nice outdoor courtyard where we waited for them to open. Sarai was expecting us and welcomed us in, greeting us with kindness and care as she checked us in to the spacious and bright lobby. Then vet tech Juliette took us into a sparkling clean exam room with lots of natural light. She took the time to understand what was going on with Zorro, and had clearly familiarized herself with his history before she saw us. Then we met Dr. Soares -- I mean we ADORE Dr. Halsey but Dr. Soares is very close behind Dr. Halsey in our hearts now. She is thorough, understanding, compassionate, smart, personable, and above all, an excellent communicator. Dr. Soares and her whole team took care good care of our boy during his time there -- her treatment paid off almost immediately as he wasn't limping when we left. And two days later, his bright red toe looked almost as good as new. We are THRILLED to have Moonlight as an option for urgent care. We wouldn't hesitate driving this distance again. TRUE GAME Changer..,,,.the staff at Moonlight Veterinarian Center of Encinitas was able to help me with my senior dog and get us in that day on my lunch hour. They were kind, patient, and truly listened to all my concerns that I had. My 12 yr old Border Collie/lab mix has arthritis in his back hips/legs that was making it painful for him to have regular bowel movements daily. My mom and I came home very upset after coming in for some information for our dog to get some proper care, We wanted to find a proper vet and somewhere near by us.The blonde girl in the lobby was very rude and had such a negative persona and she didn't even work there. She made the whole visit very dark and upsetting because she was standing there upset and not wanting to do anything to help! I understand that there are interns working here at the facility but this girl was very rude. She had no customer service she just rolled her eyes and sighed at us while walking away as if we disrupted her asking her if she could help us with some information. She did not look happy to be there at all and even pushed a dog away in the lobby. I too am a dog lover in the vet field and it was very disappointing to see someone like her in this field with no care for animals or the pet parents. Dr. Henry and the staff at Moonlight did an outstanding job caring for my dog Toby. They clearly explained the tests needed, diagnosis, and treatment plan. The very reasonable cost estimates were explained in detail and brief explanations were provided as to why everything in estimate was needed to best treat Toby. Dr. Henry did a fantastic job explaining the test results and X-rays to me. She answered all of my questions clearly and provided guidance on how to best proceed with Toby. I took great comfort in knowing that he was in great hands while being treated under her care. I got to bring him home that night and he is doing very well recovering. Amazing team working at this Vet. I called the morning and I was able to book an appointment for the same night. My dog is blind(age 6) and was making weird bullfrog, gargling noises for the past few days. We walked and they immediately took Duggie back. The Vet Tech was so sweet and everything was explained to me in detail. The Dr then came in and showed so much compassion. She gave me the diagnosis and also gave me options for medicine. The Vet also looked up his eye drops he is currently on to make sure it would be ok with the medicines she was prescribing him. Duggie loved the team. Where do I begin? This place has been a godsend for our family. Our 11 year old chihuahua had a sudden onset of neurological issues, was barely able to stand and was folding over one of his front feet when he was trying to walk. He was trembling, developed a fever and not in good shape at all. We immediately took him to the emergency hospital where he stayed for two days. They got his fever down, and with pain meds and steroids, he was walking again and seemed to feel a lot better. They wanted to do a $6k MRI to help figure out what the problem was. We said no thank you. We picked him up from the hospital and stated calling veterinary offices to get a second opinion. We called Moonlight Veterinary Center and took him in to see Dr. Halsey. She was kind and patient and recommended some x-rays so she could try and determine what was going on with our sweet boy. After viewing the x-rays and going over her findings, she suggested laser and acupuncture therapy, steroids and some pain meds. He is now off the pain meds, on a decreased level of steroids and goes in every two weeks for his laser and acupuncture treatments. He is so much better and is almost "like new". She also consulted with us when our other dog suddenly got very ill and was in the hospital. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do for him as he had developed a very aggressive form of cancer. With her knowledge and guidance, we were able to make the tough decision to let him go. I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Halsey and her team. Dr. Halsey is an outside of the box thinker and has wonderful suggestions that aren't always the traditional route. We love this about her. They go above and beyond at Moonlight Vet, and we are customers for life. read more
