I called because it was time to make that awful decision for my 16-year-old cat, her quality of life was not good, and I am sure I waited longer than I should have. I called Escondido Veterinary Emergency and spoke to the nicest lady on the phone who answered all my questions, didn't make me feel rushed, or bad about my questions I decided to wait another night and then I took her in after work and when I walked in the lady I talked to on the phone asked if she talked to me yesterday and I said yes. Her name was Brittany from the moment I walked in Brittany was so warm and sweet, said all the right things in my moments of sadness and took such good care and my and Lacey. When I tell you that she went above and beyond... she went above and beyond. She told me I was making the right decision, offered kind words and ice cream to Lacey. Brittany made such an unpleasant experience as pleasant as possible. Once we were done Cara came in and went over everything with me, I just can't tell you how impressed I am with both Brittany and Cara and their kindness. My experience with this hospital was extremely disappointing, not only because my dog's condition worsened after the visit, but also because of the unprofessional way the situation was handled. I brought my dog in because he was panting heavily and seemed restless. At that time, he was still active and able to walk and run normally. After the examination, the hospital performed X-rays, blood work, and an ultrasound, and I was charged about $1,700. Despite all of these tests, they said they could not determine what was wrong with him. Even so, they prescribed antibiotics and discharged us. When we returned home, my dog's condition became dramatically worse. He stopped eating and drinking, became extremely lethargic, and within 24 hours he could barely move and was unable to walk on his own. I called the hospital and was told this was not normal, so I brought him back immediately. However, instead of trying to investigate what might have gone wrong, the hospital insisted that I would need to pay again just for bringing my dog back . The veterinarian suggested they could prescribe painkillers if I wanted. I explained that my dog had been walking and active when I first brought him in, and that the only symptom he had was panting. After all the tests and procedures performed at this hospital, he left unable to walk. Yet the staff still could not explain what had happened and continued suggesting additional medications. The most concerning part of this experience was the veterinarian's unprofessional conduct. When I expressed that I did not think it was fair to pay for another recheck under these circumstances, her attitude immediately changed. She insisted that my dog's current condition had nothing to do with their treatment. Feeling frustrated and unheard, I decided to take my dog home and seek another opinion instead of continuing treatment there. Later, my second veterinarian requested my dog's medical report from Escondido Veterinary Emergency. I learned that the report included details of the argument I had with the hospital and quoted my words. Including personal disputes with a pet owner in a medical record is highly unprofessional. Medical reports should document only the patient's medical condition, findings, and treatment. Recording and sharing personal arguments in a professional report can unfairly influence other veterinarians reviewing the case. As of today, Escondido Veterinary Emergency has not yet sent me a copy of this report, despite having paid $1,700 for the tests and procedures. I strongly encourage other pet owners to think carefully before bringing their animals here. read more

Extremely disappointed and felt punished for asking about affordable care My husband took our dog here for an injured leg and was quoted a very high price just for an X-ray and splint. He explained that we could not afford their pricing and that we planned to seek care elsewhere, including possibly in Mexico, where veterinary services are often more affordable. Instead of respecting his decision as a pet owner trying to do the best he could financially, this clinic reported him to the Humane Society. We were shocked and distressed. At no point did we refuse care for our dog--my husband simply declined their services due to cost and planned to get treatment elsewhere. Veterinary care is already incredibly expensive, and pet owners should not be threatened or reported for seeking alternative, affordable options. This experience felt punitive and unnecessary, and it caused a great deal of stress during an already difficult situation. I cannot recommend a clinic that responds this way when a client is transparent about financial limitations and still actively trying to obtain care for their pet. read more

Brought my dog here when she got stung by a bee and started having an allergic reaction. This place saw us pretty quickly and was affordable for an emergency vet. The staff were all women and vet nice. I have a huge dog with some reactivity and handling restraint sensitivity and when I let the staff know this, they said that was helpful and she did great with them. We've (unfortunately) been to this urgent care twice since last October. Our first visit, my Border Collie was bitten by a Great Dane and needed stitches. The staff was so kind and caring especially through my fear as the bite was directly under his eye. Surgery, medication, aftercare, etc. was so affordable. They charged us the highest amount (close to $950) but informed us we would be reimbursed almost half of it back since the surgery and all of the intricacies went smoothly. Essentially, it was a "worst case scenario" fund, and we were given our money back within the same week. When his stitches slipped, we were able to go back and get staples put in place free of charge. Our second visit was this past week when our dog developed pink eye. We arrived there at about 8am, and we were out the door with medication by 9am. The doctor and staff was so sweet and efficient. I understand urgent care wait can be around 3-4 hours, so we went in with that expectation and were pleasantly surprised. Love this place so much! read more

My 11 year old dog suddenly had a health crisis, went from zero symptoms to critical illness in a few minutes when an undiagnosed tumor ruptured. Animal Urgent Care took immediate steps to stabilize him, and allowed me to visit with him during that process, while calmly explaining what happened, next steps, and specialist options. They gave me time to process what was happening, in an incredibly kind and empathetic manner from EVERY staff member. I had to make the unbelievably hard choice that humane euthanasia was the correct choice, and they gave me time for my husband to arrive so we could say goodbye to our much-loved pet without hesitation. While waiting, the staff went through their lunches to give my dog options for one last meal - fettuccine, orange chicken, beef, and a donut (which shows the deep level of care they have for their patients). This review is a little overdue. We had to call Animal Urgent Care to unfortunately make one of the hardest decisions in our life to put down one of our kitty cats. Thankfully, the vet veterinarian staff at Animal Urgent Care knew the kitty we had to bring in. I live in the La Mesa area. We had to drive to Escondido. My aunt and I got in the car and we got up there quick Animal Urgent Care already had a room ready for us and Dr. Scott de Lorenzo helped us out by making the call. We did not want to make I putting down one of our kitty cats. All the staff there was great. We came to the front desk and they had a little Wright shining in honor of our kitty cat one of the vet techs. I cannot remember her name right now, even tried to make a heart out of our kitty cats fur the care quality with Animal Urgent Care is great. I highly recommend Animal Urgent Care to anybody Out there that needs Urgent Care for their animals. It is right off of the 15 freeway in Escondido right off of Center City Parkway exit it is not my first time going to Animal Urgent Care for one of our animals. I have used the services of AUC many occasions over the years for my pets. They always are wonderful and very caring and friendly. I would never go elsewhere for animal urgent care services! A couple of weeks ago, I brought my 1.5 year old pug in because he collapsed due to anaphylactic shock from ingestion of a bee. The vet took him and treated him with multiple therapies to try to get him to respond and recover. Dr Alexandra went above and beyond the call of duty, and we were so very grateful for her diligence and care for our little guy. Dr. De Lorenzo also was wonderful in his care and did all that he could for our dog. Unfortunately, our boy passed away from a severe case of anaphylactic shock. My wife was recently walking our two small dogs when they were viciously attacked by an off-leash dog. Both were torn up badly; the smaller one suffered a broken leg and fractured rib... and we almost lost her. Thank God for Animal Urgent Care. Our 10 week old puppy was there in and out over three days and following surgery for after surgical care. The techs and vets were awesome. Gave our pups much care and love, answered all of our questions,. The vets spent as much time as we needed listening to our concerns and desires for diagnosing and helping us find the most reasonable surgical solution. This included calling to different surgical centers on our behalf to make sure they were able to handle the surgery, and get estimates for us. Thank you to the incredible staff at Escondido Animal Urgent Care for saving our fur-baby after she was bitten in the face by a rattlesnake. We're in California from out of state and had no experience with this kind of trauma. The staff immediately rushed into action to save our golden retriever. In less than 24 hours she was released groggy but in good spirits. In less than 72 hours she almost looks like her original self (her face was extremely puffy from the bite). This review is about 3 years over due: Late one evening, as the sun was just starting to set one summer, my malti-poo was the victim of some gate aggression at a dog park. I was busy talking and my little 12lbs fur-child was having the time of his life harassing the dogs coming into the park through the gate during my moment of in-attention. This is the day I learned about gate aggression as well as the importance of NOT taking your eyes off your dog when at the park.... A very large dog came in and pretty much ate my dog. After prying my dog from another dogs mouth, my puppy had three cracked ribs, a punctured lung, and a few holes in need of stitches. It was Sunday, and late. I had no clue where to go. We rushed to this Animal Hospital and received the best care. I really thought our dog was a goner. Roughly 48 hours later, some surgery and stitches, some drain tubes, some meds, and the cone of shame; our family pet recovered 100% over the coming weeks. Our dog is still doing great. We are very Thankful for the staff here and cannot speak higher of the care our pet received. read more

Please, do not bring your pets to this clinic. I have substantial evidence during which thousands of dollars have been spent for no reason, and as of today, ultimately reinforcing my decision that the majority of nurses and staff (while I'm sure most mean the best), are simply being manipulated to produce income. 14 months ago, I took one of my 4-year old ragdolls to this emergency clinic as it was closest. She had not eaten in 48 hours, was vomiting, would not eat, and was lethargic. The clinic held her for nearly 4 days. During this time they force-fed her, stressed her beyond belief, and offered little help. They had no access to an ultrasound or a surgeon capable of operating on what was ultimately an intestinal blockage. For three days, my cat was force-fed and given enemas multiple times a day, while we waited for their outsourced ultrasound technician to confirm a blockage. We then had to wait another day for their outsourced surgeon to arrive and give her opinion - during which she was unable to decide if it was a good idea to operate or not based upon the ultrasound results as they were not accurate enough for a proper diagnosis. On the 4th day, I made the decision to remove her from this hell-hole and take her to the VCA in Carlsbad, who, within 45 minutes, had confirmed a blockage, conducted surgery, and removed a hairball in her small intestine. What took this clinic 4 days and thousands of dollars took one REAL hospital 45 minutes. The reason I'm writing this review is due to my 3rd cat, who is 17 years old, has dementia, an auto-immune related alopecia disorder, and vomits daily despite whatever diet our vet suggests. He's spent the last 3 years howling at walls because he doesn't understand where he is unless we pick him up, and is unable to use a litterbox as he can't orient himself properly. He stares blankly at walls for hours when he's not vomiting or sleeping. As a family, we ultimately decided after months of consideration that his quality of life had deteriorated so poorly and our vet had no options for him, that it was best he be euthanized. We called this urgent care, told them what was happening, and they provided confirmation that euthanization was the right option. Upon taking him to this clinic, not only were they derogatory, opinionated, and rude, treating us like we were scum for wanting to take our beloved pet out of his misery, they wanted nearly $900 worth of tests we'd already ran with our vet and an overnight stay. The level of stress we've gone through with this clinic is absurd. They exist purely to make money. I have zero sympathy for the employees here - destroying one of my cats' health for 4 days straight and traumatizing her, then refusing to end the suffering of a geriatric cat with multiple records over the course of 3 years leads me to believe they genuinely do not care. Don't take your pets here. Go to the VCA in Carlsbad and receive the care your pets actually need, otherwise you'll be milked and guilted for cash because they lack the infrastructure needed to actually run an emergency clinic. I pity the doctors who can "work" here with a clear conscience. read more
