Hi, I usually enjoy coming in because of the friendly atmosphere and your sense of humor--it definitely makes the experience better. Unfortunately, today was a bit frustrating. I placed my order, and my sandwich was already made. When a family came in after me, there seemed to be some confusion and my order was grouped with theirs. Before I could clarify, my sandwich was put in the oven, even though I hadn't requested it toasted. I spoke up to let you know, and while you did remove it, it was then set aside while the rest of their order was completed. At that point, all that was needed was to wrap my sandwich and allow me to pay, but instead I ended up waiting longer than expected. I understand that things can get busy, and mix-ups happen. I just think a little more attention to order flow would go a long way. And while the jokes are usually appreciated, maybe save "what can I mess up for you today?" for a moment when things are running a bit smoother. I'm sharing this because I do enjoy coming in, and I hope the experience next time reflects that. Thank you for your time read more

Ordered a couple of the Roscco's for a birthday party. Excellent sandwich(es), not sure if you call it a sandwich or sandwiches, served 8 to 10 people. Very tasty food, well packaged for travel, labeled so you know what you are having. Easy to place order, best to give a couple of days advance request for the sandwich. We were in town for a show at the State Fair grounds and wanted a quick bite for lunch. The service was friendly and fast. My wife had the turkey bacon ranch on French and I had the beefeater on French the sandwiches were exceptionally delicious, so much so we went back the next day for lunch. She had the Rueben and I had the el italiano, highly recommend the 1706 Sangamon location, it small and in a small strip shop setup, the place was clean and neat. read more

Good is always good here, I recommend the gobbler. It's a turkey sandwich. Make sure it's toasted. I don't know if the guy with the beard still works here, but he was the guy who said funny things like "how can I mess up your order today?" He was not meant to be taken seriously. He would be sarcastic, but you should never be offended by him. I usually just gave it right back to him if he was trying to give me crap and he would laugh. Good times. The place could be painted and updated, but whatever. So could a lot of places. read more

Use to work here years ago.. The cheeese soup really took a turn for the worse past few years.. now made with a chicken bullion stock or base. Not good. Told the owner it was not good and I swapped it out for brownie instead. Sandwich was pretty decent, but portion was considerably smaller than it use to be. read more

I had Monty's years ago from the Brunswick lane location. I stumbled into the sangamon store Saturday looking for a lite lunch. Walked in to empty store. Only to hear the owner yell.over the TV in back of store "I'll be right there" Comes out and is very talkative. Takes my order. I go to sit down at one of the empty and very dirty, sticky tables. "He says I probably should wipe.off the tables" I looked for the cleanest one and use napkins to wipe of the crumbs from God knows when the last customer. Enjoyed the club on wheat very filling, offer of different choices of chips, but only offers can soda, fountain soda, and bottle water. Not one time did the owner come out to check with me if everything was ok nor if I needed anything. I guess he was to involved in missing his TV show in the back. I then went to use the bathroom before leaving. And walked into a dirty very outdated bathroom. Dirty seat with left over fecal matter all over the toilet, sticky floor and something that looked like soap leaking on the sink. I will never visit this store every again and I think maybe health inspector should visit soon. read more

First time eating here. I ordered the hearty chef salad and the loaded baked potato soup. The soup was super hot which is nice on a chilly day like today. It didn't taste seasoned and I had difficulty finding any potato in it. Kind of bland. The salad was huge!! Once I opened the lid and mixed it, I couldn't close the lid again. It has a lot in it. It had a ton of meat, cheese and veggies. It easily could be split between a few people. It was so delicious and filling!! The salad is why I gave it 4 stars. I didn't get a sub, even though they have a large sub selection and some different ones than most places, such as an egg sub, all cheese sub and a turkey salad sub. Their salad menu is also more than the usual salad menus, which is nice. I think I'll get a sub next time. They also make big cookies. read more

I lived in Springfield for 3 years, and Monty's is the place I miss most. They have the best sandwiches in town by far. The sweet bread is always amazing and fresh. Any time I am passing through the area, I make it a point to detour for a sandwich. The owner really takes pride in providing great service for every customer every time, and it shows. read more

This is one of my favorite sub shops in Springfield, but I had stayed away for a long time because the guy who worked there was so annoying. Happily he seems to have moved on and I'm able to enjoy these sandwiches once again. I like the Gobbler best, but every thing I've tried is great. Bread is so soft and yummy. Their soups are also great. I usually get the Lighter Biter which is half a sandwich and a cup of soup or a salad. Sandwiches are good hot or cold. Definitely worth a try. read more

I've only been here once on a road trip but really liked the food. I wished their menu had more veggie-friendly options, and maybe more sides...but it's a small sub shop, so you can't have everything, I know! My half sub was really good and loved the rye bread. The soup of the day was cheesy potato and it looked pretty disgusting like thick melted Velveeta but once I tasted it, I was impressed as it did have a nice flavor, just could have used more potato chunks for sure. This was a fast and easy lunch when traveling, though, and I am sure they have many great sandwiches especially for those who are more into meat subs. read more

Montys was amazing! We were driving through Springfield on a road trip and we chose to stop here. The bread was fresh and super soft. The sandwiches were overall awesome. He thinks he's being cute and it's obviously an act but he just comes off like a jerk. The lady that works with him looks very tired and irritated from listening to him all day. Stopped into Monty's on a work trip for lunch. Nice little sub shop with a soup / salad / sandwich menu. I got the Italiano on wheat. The bread is on the softer side and not very crackly. I got mine cold. The biggest positive for me was that the cold cuts and veggies tasted really fresh. It blows subway away in this regard. And, a personal preference, they have cherry Pepsi on the soda fountain. However, fountain soda refills are 0.50, which is kind of odd. They had fresh baked brownies and rice crispy treats for sale on the counter too tgat looked really tempting. Prices were a bit higher than chains. My meal of the sandwich, chips and large drink with one refill was $10.50. The only bad thing I felt was the first booth I sat at was very sticky. I came at lunch rush, so it may not have been cleaned off, but still not good. The booth behind it was fine. So, a good lunch stop for a good bite to avoid the chains. read more

Best sandwiches in Springfield! We stopped here on our way home to Chicago. I had a Lighter Biter with broccoli and cheese soup and a heated Hamlit on sweet bread. So good! My son loved the Turkey Bacon Ranch on French, which he could not finish. Hubby really enjoyed the El Italiano on French, especially the sweet Italian dressing. My daughter had the Gobbler on sweet bread heated and she enjoyed it. Staff very friendly. Quick service and great prices. 69 cents for a bottle of water! Will definitely return! read more
