Although this is the hardest thing we've ever done, it was one of the best things we have ever done. Although there are some kids who have drug or alcohol issues, many did not. They were all in maladaptive coping styles and needed to learn how to manage their emotions in healthy ways. We still have lots of room to grow but the staff there were phenomenal. They were caring, thoughtful, and experts at what they do. From the front desk, to the therapists, to the psychiatrist and nurses, to the kitchen staff - they all worked together to take care of these kids. Our son learned coping skills via Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy and we all learned these skills as a family. Since there are no personal electronics, these kids learn to communicate and relate to one another and their family in new ways. At times, he still struggles with managing his emotions but we are fortunate to continue to work with one of the therapists there with routine family counseling. The parents need help too and their parent sessions and support groups were very insightful. Everyone at The Center for Success and Independence deserves a Gold Star in my book.

I also find it notable that the clinic relocated to Texas in 2003, the same year major tort reforms made malpractice cases more difficult for patients to win. The way I was admitted many years ago would be considered far below the standards of best practice in more patient oriented states. If you are aggrieved in any way, they tell you to speak to a Patient Advocate who I experienced as not advocating for me, but protecting the institution in my talks with them. I did not get a promised call back or email back. I personally consider the Menninger Clinic a profit driven disgrace to the mental healthcare field.

After numerous biopsies and genomic tests I was advised that I was at 'low risk' for developing prostate cancer, but diagnosed with BPH; weak stream, sudden urges to urinate, and getting up three to four times a night to go to the bathroom. In December of 2022 my PSA jumped to 15.1; had an MRI (no cancer); and, was prescribed a drug that would make me gain weight, potentially render me impotent, and shrink my prostate. No thanks. I asked my urologist about focal laser ablation for my BPH and he advised me against it. Having become familiar with the Prostate Laser Center I immediately requested a consultation online. I was contacted instantly, they secured my medical records, and following review of those records, arranged for me to speak with Dr. Aaron Harmon. From my initial request, to my consultation with Dr. Harmon. was about 48 hours. He was professional, personable, encouraging, and informative. Ten days later on February 28, 2023 I flew to Houston for laser ablation of my prostate by Dr. Harmon. My procedure and recovery was 'exactly' as they described it would be; painless and uneventful. I had my PSA tested less than six weeks after the procedure and my PSA dropped to 1.43. Stream is strong. No sudden urges to urinate. No getting up in the middle of the night! If you are considering this procedure, don't hesitate. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Dr. Harmon and his nurse, Olivia Morales, are great!

I inquired about alternative approaches, such as focal laser ablation. He parroted back the usual: 'not standard of care'. After a month of obsessive reading and listening to podcasts, I came across an interview with Dr. Karamanian. I reached out. One month later I had 3 malignant lesions removed. I am now six months out. My PSA has dropped from 3.4 (Prior to the procedure) to 1.7 (2 months post-procedure), to current .79 (six months post-procedure). Sexual and urinary functions are both up and running (pun intended). Very grateful there are doctors like Dr. Karamanian, as well as his excellent staff.

He told me it had to be removed immediately or I'd end up in the hospital with a serious health risk, and gave me no other options. The procedure was coded in a way that insurance denied as cosmetic or comfort care, leaving me with a $400 bill that overdrafted my account. When I reached out for notes or a letter of medical necessity to appeal, I was told the physician no longer works there, transferred to billing, and the billing manager refused to help. She said they wouldn't do anything more, it was an insurance problem, and this was the last communication they'd have on the matter. She became aggressive when I simply explained I was upset about the situation. On top of that, they charged my card for the full amount without any prior notice after the denial, which came as a complete shock. The doctor was also negligent in dressing the wound, the gauze stuck to the nail bed, I had to return two days later, and he ripped it off dry, causing extreme pain and re-traumatizing the area. The nail is now not growing back properly. Patients deserve better than being left financially harmed and physically worse off with zero cooperation on fixing a preventable insurance issue. I wouldn't recommend this practice.

I had never seen a counselor/therapist before so I was very picky and did a lot of research. I wanted someone who shared the same faith with me and had experience handling the issues I was dealing with. I narrowed my search to Jamie and that was one of the best decisions I've made in my life. Right from my first meeting with Jamie, I felt very comfortable, zero judgement, I was free to bear my heart out to her and she diagnosed the root cause of my issues which was a life with no boundaries. I had the biggest light bulb moments I've ever had in my life during our sessions. I spent over a year with Jamie and each session was super refreshing. I looked forward to each session. She uncovered a lot of connections from my past that were affecting some of the decisions and choices I was making. It was mind-blowing. I am a stronger woman with firm boundaries because of Jamie's help. She helped me work through each childhood hurt that was causing me depression. With her support, I had multiple difficult conversations with those in my past who hurt me and with each conversation, I was able to forgive and move forward and I felt a huge boulder drop from my heart. I am happier, healthier, no depression spells, have a very strong sense of self because of my time in counseling/therapy with Jamie. I've been able to finally drop my victim bags and realize that I have a choice and I'm making positive choices every day to forgive, love, and think positive. I've been recommending her to my friends and family ever since. I recommend Jamie to everyone going to emotional turmoil. She is a one-of-a-kind counselor/therapist. Thank you for all your help, Jamie. I'm eternally grateful.
