Came in for dinner as we were in town for a funeral. We were quickly seated and given chips and salsa. The chips were not anything special but I liked the spice level of the salsa. My wife got the Guadalupe Special (which had a bunch of different items) and I got the Quesobirria Tacos. My wife game me a flauta from her plate and it was awful: this was the pork or beef but did not like it. Chips are not the light fluffy kind sold at some places. They are the thicker, crunchy kind. They were good though. The salsa is thin, no chunks of veggies in it. It was good and spicy. I read someone else had written it tasted like spicy tomato sauce. That comes down to personal taste I guess. Ordered the #3 lunch special for $5.00. It included a taco, an enchilada and rice and beans. The taco came out looking like someone had taken a bite from it. Obviously nobody did but a piece of the shell was missing. See picture. The meat was dry definitely won't order the taco again if I should ever visit in the future. The cheese enchilada was good and the tortilla seemed fresh. The beans and rice are average. Nothing to write home about. The restaurant was busy. It was prime lunchtime. The host was also the waiter for me. He did a good job of balancing the two jobs. Sorry.... We've been here before, but today was horrible, just horrible. Chicken nachos... chicken was old, overcooked and it came out cold. My son ordered chorizos nachos. It came with onions and peppers all in it. We expected that to be in the chicken nachos. The cheese dip was good, and the 3 soft tacos tasted good and were fresh. Our order took about 40 minutes. Maybe it was because the saturday after black friday , and it appeared they needed more employees. Either way, we were highly disappointed. read more

Good place to eat and has some great dishes and service to match. They even have a kid's cheeseburger with fries that is good.

My wife and I were out trying the local Mexican Food locations. Monterrey is inviting upon first glance but my food left something to be desired. Our waiter was nice but way over worked. He was running like his backside was on fire. Needless to say he had little time for any one customer. I ordered the Fajita nachos. The fajitas were ok but the cheese they put on it was something akin to melted Velveeta cheese, like a cheese soup. The kitchen had forgotten to put any toppings like the order described, onions , tomatoes, etc... I had to stop the waiter long enough to have that fixed. I think they can do better. This is a hit or miss restaurant. What I mean by that is, if Martha (the owner) is there, then the service is top notch. However, if she is not there, the service is slower than molasses. I guess if the cats away the mice will play. read more

I've been coming here 30yrs. Recently moved back town & I've been trying to like it just like "back in the day" with several recent visits. After several 2nd chances, I think yesterday was my limit. Maybe it was the dirty tables, the sticky menus, the stale chips that were cooked in old fry oil, the frequent 15-20min cook times while other staff sit around & roll silver, the ultra bland fajitas with stray pieces of bacon that came out on a cold plate vs. a sizzling skillet, the tortillas in foil that were rock hard on top but also oozing/dripping on the bottom, the wife's "that's not what I was expecting" fish tacos, or the kids plates that obviously sat & died in the kitchen window before hitting our table. How can you ask them to "make it right" and risk wasting another 20min sitting in a Tex-Mex place that can't execute on chips or fajitas? This place is broken. read more

My husband and I have always enjoyed the food, fast service, and the atmosphere for years, but several months ago, we had a less than desirable experience and we had not been back. Then recently, I was with a friend and decided to try them again. I was extremely disappointed. We had to request menus. The waitress was surly. The food was barely warm, but still tasty, except for the chips. We only had an hour, as I had to pick up a child, so, I didn't want to take up the time to send my food back for them to get it hot. I always hate to complain about food in any restaurant. I usually just count my losses and don't go back. In fact, this is my first time to leave a review on any restaurant. My friend needed a to go container, and I had to go hunt one down for her, as the waitress never came back to ask us if we needed anything else. I noticed after the waitress left our check, she left a few minutes later, so, perhaps she was having a bad day and was glad to be off work. I have tried several other Mexican restaurants in town and have always preferred this one, but now I will have to try to find another one. read more

Typical Mexican fare. Service was slow. But it was pretty busy and there could have been a few more Servers working. The dress is a little less than casual for most of the patrons here. The food temp and flavor was a little below average. They brought flour instead of corn tortillas as requested. They arrived after I finished the , now warm chicken fajita. Over all this was not a very good experience however, I will give them one more try just to see is this was an off night because I hate leaving bad reviews. read more

Waitress was nice. That got the two stars. Beyond that, a place to avoid. We have several really good Mex places in town. Our favorite was closed on a Tuesday and so we thought we would whip around the corner and go to the Monterey. Should have gone for pizza. For a specific on the food, beyond an okay taco I tried the tamales. Bad beyond belief. All corn coating and very little filler covered in a thick gooey sauce. Off the list for sure. read more

Will not go back not very authentic either. We were looking for something different, the waiter acted like he didn't care. The been dip was like bean soup, I had steak and shrimp fajitas, the steak had no seasoning on it and the shrimp was way over cooked. Where to start! My family an I have been eating and enjoying Mexican cuisine for over 16 years. We have seen good, bad, even great Mexican restaurants. Last night we had a 1st however! cheese dip at a Mexican "restaurant" that was not fit for human consumption. If you think this is good dip you really need to get out from under the rock and joint the rest of the human race. Also if this the best cheese dip you have to offer I would consider another profession. how about sewer plant operator, no different than the crap you pushing now. let's move on to the Chile rellenos usually this has a Chile in it. I mean come on. Chile rellenos with out Chile's what kind of joint is this? when you think about it though it doesn't surprise me seeing as the staff seamed like we were inconveniencing them by showing up wanting "God forbid EAT something in this dump. so just to summarize. if you want to eat something that looks and tastes like what it is going to make "explosively" do in the toilet later, mind you not much later. then this is the place for you. read more

No stars at all is what I would the Tusculum Blvd location! I have gone into this restaurant twice and ordered Chile relleno. The first time I got a greasy pile of meat with cheese over it and the stem of a pepper. The second time I got the same pile of cheese covered of meat with a tiny piece of pepper in it. When I said something to the waiter, he and the cook came out and kinda harassed me, saying that I did not know what Chile rellanos were. This dish is my favorite and I have had hundreds of times before. I will never grace the doors of this restaurant ever again. read more

Been twice. Both were so disgusting I left food. No one even tried to make it better, offer something else or a partial refund. But bottom line, I would not feed my dogs this food! read more
