When I found out that Monterrey Market was opening a location in the former Walmart Neighborhood Market building on 70th, I was excited to have a new lunch option near work with their hot deli bar. I stopped in during their first week open and got some Mexican rice, pork carnitas, and a chicharron with meat from inside the deli counter. I also ordered a steak quesadilla with just steak and cheese (I thought she said it also comes with beans and mayo).
The rice was pretty standard with some peas, carrots, and onion mixed in. The pork carnitas had good flavor, but was on the dry side. I wouldn't say no to having either again, but I'd be fine if I didn't.
The chicharron with meat was great. I liked how much crunch was in each bite and there was a good amount of meat on it. I only got one so I could try it, but I'd get a couple next time.
The quesadilla impressed me the most. Nice size, lots of flavor in the steak, and they didn't skimp on the steak either. This is something I'd get again and again. read more
