My yearly subscription is for Sunday only. It is so disappointing when I do not get the paper and have to call for another. It is even more disappointing when I am told it will be replaced that morning and it never comes. Yea today I got my paper on time and able to read it with my morning coffee. I am happy reading my paper and as I turn the page there is black tape across the print of a story I am not able to read. I was confused as to why, turns out the paper was torn and patched with dark black tape that cover the story print??? The Herald is now so thin. It looks like a Newsletter not a Newspaper. Besides that, I personally like the SF Chronicle! Not local but informative. The second issue I have is that the Herald has not delivered my Moms Newspaper in 2 weeks! What's up with your delivery? This has happened more times then I can count this year! I subscribed for a years worth of Sundays and only received one paper so I called and was told I would have to call every Sunday to receive my delivery. I was not very happy with this coarse of action to receive my delivery and asked if I could get a refund and was told I could not get one so I ended getting only one paper delivered for an entire years subscription price, not good at all, buyer beware you were warned!!! read more

I cant believe I'm saying this but, thank goodness for " Cookies " !! Its because it gave me the opportunity to NEVER get a recommendation from Monterey Herald News Paper again!!! Every time I try to read the news their trying to sell me their lame subscription. It's not a news paper it overly thick flyer. I signed up for COVID updates via text so I don't need to pay for a subscription just to be kept in the loop. This organization is less than worthless. Despite numerous requests to be removed from their contact list I receive frequent almost daily unsolicited telephone sales inquiries that are annoying and often rude. The Herald sales techniques are unacceptable - perhaps I should begin making daily annoying calls to staff members at inappropriate times to let them know. One of the worst newspapers ever. The Herald is not even worth wrapping your fish on. I was able to scan and read articles up until this month, and now they demand their paywall, after promising "free COVID 19 coverage." Super cheeky as a lot of us are out work. In any case, I will read the Pine Cone, which is free, and has a better grasp of the news. Sometimes the Pine Cone gets stories earlier than the Herald! read more

At the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic, I signed up for the e-Edition. I wanted to stay informed about local COVID cases. Instead of receiving the Monterey Herald, I received the Lansdale Reporter (PA). I brought this to the attention of the head of the Circulation Department, who promised she would fix the error and promised a full refund. The promise was made over the phone and in writing. Nevertheless, the subscription error persisted for 13 weeks. I was charged a second time and still did not receive a refund. Finally, I contacted the Lansdale Reporter and told them I was receiving the e-Edition for someone named Patricia. Each morning I was greeted with an email that read: "Good morning, Patricia. Here is your e-Edition for the Lansdale Reporter." ...my name is NOT Patricia! It turned out that the e-Edition is generated by a third party, and Patricia and I shared an identical account number. Seriously??? THAT would be an easy accounting fix. NOT to the Herald, who has yet to issue a refund for sending me the wrong newspaper. I have tried, to no avail to get the circulation department to answer my requests for a full refund, so I have decided to let the world know, via social media, how poorly they have treated this customer. read more

Generally I like the Herald. Gawd knows it's far better than the Salinas Californian newspaper. -- One major problem with the Herald... I subscribed to this paper for 90 Days (only) during one of their special offers. Folks at the Herald called a week or two after I began getting the paper and asked how I liked the paper. I said it was fine, though I wanted to make sure my subscription would end at 90 Days. The person calling said she would make sure the subscription would end at 90 Days. About two weeks later, someone from the Herald called to see if I'd like to subscribe to the paper! I mentioned that I already receive the paper on their 90 Day special offer, and that I want delivery to end at 90 Days from the date the 90 Day Special Offer began. This person assured me the deliveries would end at the prescribed date. Last week I received an invoice from the Herald billing me for the next month. -- Despite the agreement that my 90 Day Special Offer would end at 90 Days, which was early in November, it appears the Herald fails to honor Their Own commitment and would rather keep delivering the paper even though I don't want it. read more

By California law, a newspaper is allowed to charge as much as it wishes for "legal notices". The Herald has charged an obscene $3,100.00 for my required public notice of foreclosure. They call my work and bug us over whether we want a subscription of the herald... problem is we have 50 paper delivered daily..... why cant they keep track of that in their sales dept.? I'm really considering letting upper management know of the "harassing" phone calls and wasted company time.... I think they might cancel them and go with something else.... read more

A pretty bad paper that has only gotten worse. I won't repeat what others have already said. But the "Go!" section has turned into a nothing supplement. I have not gotten delivery of my Sunday paper in well over three months. They don't answer their phones, and emails receive responses that range from cold to tepid. I gave up on contacting them every time a paper failed to be delivered and suggested they issue a refund, but they refuse to credit my account for many of the missed deliveries or refund my remaining subscription cost. They keep saying they'll "remind" my carrier, who has been completely AWOL since February. Now I'm receiving numerous renewal notices (from Los Angeles). Internal communications between office staff and carriers, and between office staff and the numerous "vice presidents," seem to be pretty darn poor. Mac McDonald and others who wrote and worked for the Herald were wise to get out when they had the chance. Don't waste your money. read more

I haven't received my Sunday paper on Sunday in months. I call and am assured it will be re-delivered that day and it is not. I call on Monday and sometimes receive the Sunday paper and sometimes don't. I can't believe they are still in business. After leaving numerous voicemails and sending several e-mails someone finally got back to me. They offered me 6 weeks complimentary delivery. Well, guess what - I don't get that either. I called to complain and let them know that it seems easy to give something away free especially when the freebie isn't received. I am asking for my money back - and be done with them. WORTHLESS!!! This newspaper is GARBAGE and the service is GARBAGE!!! I have subscribed for over 30 years and am completely disgusted with every aspect of the Monterey Herald! Customer Service does NOT exist! Missing newspapers on a regular basis. Cannot get any help or response from the so-called Circulation Department. Where do they find these delivery people??? Incompetent and Unreliable!!! On lucky days that the paper IS delivered, it's either out in the road or under the car. When it drizzles or rains, not wrapped in plastic. It's so much fun to try to open up a soaked paper. If not for the fact that I like reading my paper in the morning, I would have cancelled years ago! Prices have gone up - quality has gone down. They must used the cheapest recycled paper they can find! No one proofreads anymore - so many typos!!! Just completely unprofessional in every way!!! Certainly not worth the price! Let's not even talk about how completely biased they are politically... Unfortunately they don't have "zero stars" - that's what I would have given. 1 Star is too good!!! read more

I was suppose to get the Sunday paper on May 22 but didn't received it try to call that Sunday but not able to talk to someone and the voicemail mailbox was full. Finally was able to talk to someone during the week and she told me that I will received next Sunday finally got it but that the only time I received it. The others Sunday none and I call every week to complaint and leave messages but no reply. I call today and wait for about 30 minutes to finally talk to someone and I end up to cancel the paper and I told her that I'm not paying the bill because I only received 1 time. She told me that I'm not the only complaining about not receiving the paper. The worse company, customer service... and when you get the bill they also want tips for what? No paper!!! read more

The Herald works for me. It's no Fresno Bee, bulk size that is. It's thin but has all the basics I'm looking for. Good sports section, great local news and a little about the world. Really I'm not interested in the World. It's all drama anyways. Only if people knew the real truth. They would freak out but the Goverment hides it well and occasionally a lil slips out and everyone freaks out!!! Lol The Herald is good. You get what you pay for! :) read more
