I am surprised I have not been here sooner. Not Italian decorated at all. Just a normal restaurant & bar. I was pretty upset it took forever for anyone to realize my mom & I were even in the restaurant when they have a noise that goes off whenever someone arrives. Other guests had to let us know what to do. Everyone was weirded out. The waiter finally came out & just slammed us down menus. He was the least happiest waiter in my 29 years of life LOL. We ordered shrimp cocktail..amazing but you only get 6 shrimp FYI for $11.99. We also got cheesy garlic bread. That was awesome too. I loved the sauce. My mom got some pasta that wasn't good at all. Just pasta & sauce. No flavoring, no seasoning. I would never order it again. I got an old world pepperoni pizza that was a kids size. It reminded me of a lean cuisine pizza, pretty embarrassing if you ask me for $13. I would never order it again. If I was sharing that with someone I would have been mad with the size of it. They should warn people on the menu of the sizes. It just says "Pizzas" with the different flavors. I would try it again but there are so many other basic bar food places in Powell that are much more awesome. I wanted to ask the waiter what his problem was as we continued being so kind to him. I do not have a single negative to report. The lasagna was the best my husband has ever had. I enjoyed the eggplant parmigiana. 4 medallions were coated in Monte Carlos' signature bread crumb mixture and lightly friend. Topped with melted cheese and their house tomato sauce. The tomato sauce is thick- not watery- and nicely seasoned. The husband ordered the Caesar salad with large sheet of sliced parmesan, romain lettuce with delicious croutons and dressing. I enjoyed the signature sweet italian salad with red onion, bacon (I omitted) gorganzola cheese and tomato. It was a feast for the eyes before my first bite. Our son ordered the garlic bread. Open faced sub buns slathered with garlic butter and topped with mozzarella cheese melted under the broiler so the bread is toasty and the cheese is nicely melted! Monte Carlo has to be my favorite restaurant of all time! The food is absolutely amazing, the house-made sauce is addicting! Standard sub-par italian at this place. If you need more to tell you, let's just say I could make the same thing at home.... and it would probably have taken half the amount of time and had twice as much flavor. Although I imagine this is "authentic italian" for some folks, I had one of their Highlighted "Signature Dishes", the chicken parmagiana and it tasted like penne and a jar of sauce I could get at the grocery store. The chicken was cooked well, but that's about all that I can say. The other dish we ordered was a linguine duo and the white clam sauce was flavorless, the meat sauce was just okay. Other than the food being average, the service was not half what I would have imagined in a place downtown of Powell... we waited at the hostess stand for 7 or so minutes before even being looked at, to which we were guided to a table and sat, without menus. The woman that sat us said "i'll be right back with menus for you" and then we didn't see another human for 20 minutes. Yes, I timed it. When the server came up, she immediately asked us if anyone had helped us, to which I mentioned our wait, and the fact that we were about to get up when she walked by. From there it seemed like they picked up their game, or slightly noticed something wasn't right, because we had 3 people check on us in the next 5 minutes. Our order was taken quickly, and our food was brought out in a timely manner. However, this was definitely not a quick dinner. And no bread was offered while we wait, either, which I found a little weird from an Italian restaurant. I won't be back, but I've learned my lesson and I'm glad I gave it a try for a new-er-ish place in the suburbs. read more

So my brother and his kid came into town and wanted pasta. Unfortunately Powell doesn't have too many reasonable options (Vittoria is great, but pricey for a quick bite) so I grudgingly offered up Monte Carlo hoping things had turned around. I was wrong. My son accompanied them and had the meatball sub. He said it tasted like store bought sauce. Nephew had the linguine and clam sauce and found that it had no taste. None at all. My brother had the wedding soup and said it was great. As was the garlic bread. Really wanted to like this place, but the Garlic Bread had very little garlic flavor. The best part was the Marinara Sauce. The Fettuccine Alfredo was bland. The Spaghetti and Meat Sauce was just ok. The Meatball was pretty good, and tasted homemade. The Lasagna was just ok. The chicken in the Chicken Parm tasted like frozen precooked chicken nuggets. I was happy to see this new Italian restaurant go into the Old Bag of Nails space, so decided to give it a try. The menu has the normal Italian fare - pastas, pizzas, subs. I decided to try a Monte Carlo special so got the chicken parmesan with a side of linguine with white clam sauce. The food lacked flavor (and salt) and I was very disappointed given the price. The chicken was overcooked and sauce could have come out of a can. Not sure what was "special" about it. Same as the clam sauce, which was runny and had very little clam in it. It took us a while to get seated even though it wasn't very busy. Our server was new and had trouble taking our order and filling our drinks. Ambiance wasn't anything special. I doubt I'll be back, but it was worth a try. read more

I used to live by the one in Westerville so I know how their Italian dressing should taste. I ordered delivery and the Italian dressing was nothing but a cup of olive oil. So very DISAPPOINTED. We went in on a weekday night, and to say it was so bad was an understatement. We were THE only humans in the entire place, and hour and a half before they closed. We ordered an appetizer - the cook brought it out with our dinner entrees. The app was burnt and we were told "I'll make another one if you want" - clearly they didn't want to. (Pretty sure he was a manager/owner). My meatball was frozen in the middle. My bfs lasagna was smothered in sauce to hide the terrible taste. It was so awkward i wish we honestly had just left when we walked in and there was no one there. Points for the server - she was so kind and spectacular. Thought I might make my life easy the weekend before last and give this restaurant a try by ordering one of the family meals. Pasta with meat sauce and a dozen meatballs on the side. Ugh...big mistake. The pasta was overdone and the meat sauce was almost inedible. Very acidic tasing is the best way I could describe it, it definitely hadn't had time for any flavor other than tomato to develop. My husband had heartburn almost immediately after eating it. The salad was OK, but the dressing that came with it was practically all oil with a touch of vinegar-I tossed it and used my own. The breadsticks...stale. About the only thing half-way decent were the meatballs but considering thy charge $1.50/meatball when you order a dozen (otherwise they're $2 a piece) they left a lot to be desired. FYI...I ordered from this place 'blindly'. Had never been there nor did I look at any reviews. I had seen it posted a bunch of times on a moms FB page that I'm a part of. That being said-it looked super cute on the inside and the girl who I dealt with in the take out area was nice enough but I should've know something was up when I got there and there was literally ONE table of customers on a Sunday afternoon. I tried to convince myself that was because it was Sunday and nice out but after eating the food I quickly realized the place was empty because the food just isn't that good. Fantastic dinner this evening. Chicken parm with side of linguine and meat sauce. Yes my wife thought it was weird I had meat sauce with chicken parm. Chicken was plentiful and well prepared. Meat sauce was wonderful and smothered over top of chicken and linguine. I'd buy the meat sauce if they sold it in jar. Wife had the wedding soup and Italian sub. Enjoyed both very much. Finally our server was Mackenzie who was delightful. Friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. We will absolutely be back. Lots of other menu choices still to try. The inside of the old Rusty Bucket has been freshened up and lightened up. Come on Powell ... support Monte Carlo. We need a well run family Italian restaurant choice in Powell. UPDATE: 2/28/19. This little restaurant in Powell is absolutely wonderful. The food is generous and tasty, and the service is impeccable. I had the standard spaghetti and meatballs, and I've never had a better meatball. The sauce was perfect and the company and garlic bread was cheesy and delicious. My wife and I have been here a few times and every time everything has been exceptional. Recently we had some confusion on a booking and they went OUT OF THERE WAY to make sure we were happy. Really good food. Not too pricy. I got the trio and was super full after. It was only 14 bucks. Also tried the grilled chicken salad. Very fresh and delicious. Great parking. And overall it was pretty inside. Service was friendly and fast. But you do have to ask if you want bread. Has a very cute bar area I can't wait to come back and check out. Did good! Wanted to try but was never seated. My family of 5 walked in on a Saturday night. Tables were about half full. There was a couple ahead of us. After a few minutes a staff came by to sit them. They requested to sit at the bar, the staff takes them some menus then disappears. She clearly saw my family standing there waiting to be sitted. A few minutes go by...nothing. Another older couple walks in behind us. A few more minutes go by, still nothing. 2 more people come in. We're all crowded by the door at this point. A few more minutes go by. No staff to be found. The older couple joked that they had a help wanted sign up. It was at this point that we gave up. We told the other customers good luck and left. Based on this experience, we will not be returning. Staying open with a skeleton crew on a Saturday night is unprofessional. read more

Took my friend who is in Assisted Living out for a special Christmas dinner treat and this was the perfect spot! She loves Italian and usually eats like a bird, but she surprisingly ate an entire sweet Italian side salad and Ala Carte lasagna. She loved the salad and the sauce and it was a meal and setting we both very much enjoyed. We had to have dessert and loved splitting a tiramisu. What's my first time here and my wife and I came for Valentine's Day dinner. Add lasagna which was very good, and I had the broiled tilapia with a side of angel hair pasta and alfredo sauce. I also had a sweet Italian salad which was very good. The bread was fresh, warm and very soft and the wait staff was attentive. I did get tiramisu to take home for dessert later. My only ever-so-slight criticism is that the tiramisu was a little Frozen, even after being At home for a half hour. Love it here. Live music on Wednesday on the patio and they'll continue with the music indoors in the winter as well. The menu items taste a lot better than when they first opened. Somewhat disappointed with this place. Was hoping to like it and support local business but that wasn't the case. The lasagna was just layers of noodles with nothing in between, maybe some very thin layers of mozzarella but could not tell. There was no sauce or ricotta cheese blend in between. The top layer of the lasagna was hard and looked like melted plastic. The one thing that made it okay was the sauce poured over it. That I do agree with other reviews, the sauce is good & tastes homemade. As for service, our server would disappear for a while, took her 25 minutes before we got water brought over and drinks ordered. Then she was gone for a good while before order was taken. Our order was to go, was 30 mins late. We ordered the wedding soup, the trio and the crusted cod with Broccoli. 1. Wedding soup - what do you expect, meatballs! Not one. Probably one of the worst wedding soups I've had. Campbell's in a can would be better. 2. Trio - the lasagna was ok at best, the chicken parm was dry and the fettuccine was probably the WORST I have ever had. The white sauce was watery and runny. Pick ANY generic white sauce from a grocery store and it's 10x better. Lasagna was ok. 3. Cod - not lightly breaded, battered and deep fried. From what it looks like, pulled from Kroger and put in the fryer. No tartar sauce, and no lemon. The rolls were dry, and not even fresh. I will never order from here again, and I would encourage you to save your money and go to Olive Garden. read more
