Great Ski hill in the Eastern Townships. It's not the Alps but it's the best value for money in eastern Canada. Cheaper than VT.

Can't say enough good things about Mont Orford. If you're looking to get some skiing/snowboarding in or around the Quebec area, you've probably heard the hype about Mont Tremblant or Le Masif. To be honest those are both great hills, but the lineups can be insane. Mont Orford on the other hand is a lesser known hill with a good number runs, a Gondola, Chalet and a good assortment of trails. There's no real "village", which I consider a positive because alot of the time people in the village aren't even skiing or snowboarding - just taking up space. 100% of the employees speak French though, and not all speak perfect English so bare that in mind, and be patient and respectful. read more

Our favorite mountain we come back to year after year. The people there are so friendly and the conditions are usually amazing even if it doesn't snow much. It's just great to be at such a friendly mountain with good vibes. Most of the skiers are amazing. It's like skiing with a bunch of professionals. They recently opened Beavertails by the lodge and it tastes so much better by the mountain. It is also the prettiest mountain I have ever seen. read more

Great place with spectacular views, challenging slopes and helpful staff. A most wonderful break from the grind of many US resorts. This is definitely a skiers mountain, within a national park, so there are no condos or mountain development. Refreshing. With three mountain peaks, there is something for everyone. There are glades of various difficulties throughout the mountains. Mont Orford has a 1,933' vertical drop, with the other peaks in the 1,000' range. We got here at the tail end of a foot of snow and the conditions were spectacular. However, the winds after the storm caused the shutdown of most lifts. Still, the afternoon was magnificent. The views are unforgettable. The facilities are more than adequate. A nice sit down restaurant with good microbrew beers and a good selection of food. Kick-butt espresso too. We have to have a second visit. read more

It's time to review another one of my preferred ski hills: Mont Orford! The mountain is just over an hour from Montreal and is a small mountain but then again most hills in Quebec are. It is also one of the more expensive ones with the lift ticket coming to $62 plus tax. The best part of Orford is the hybrid lift which consists of gondolas and regular 6-person chairlifts. The gondola lift is probably every skier's favourite kind of lift since it provides a welcome reprieve from cold weather. Orford and Tremblant are the only mountains near Montreal that offer them. This lift also takes you to the summit where there are the best views. The black diamond runs here are fairly steep and can be quite challenging especially when the conditions turn icy. For those of you looking for some real challenging terrains there are a few double black diamonds. The blues are on par with other ski hills and I enjoy them quite a bit but then again I tend to ski mostly blues with some black diamonds thrown in there to mix things up. If you are a beginner then the green runs are not too steep and a good place to get some practice. Le 4km is relatively flat and while you can get pretty big ice chunks near the top it is for the most part very beginner-friendly. It also offers up some excellent views of the Eastern Townships. Even when the conditions are good for skiing you never seem to get many crowds here. The gondola never has a long wait (10 minutes maximum) and sometimes if you're really lucky you won't stand in line at all. The other chairlifts never seem to get very busy either. This also means that when you are actually skiing you will be able to get lots of space between you and the others on the mountain. Sometimes if you're really lucky you will also find yourself on a run with no skiers or snowboarders save for the occasional one so you almost get an entire run to yourself which is a nice feeling. The cafeteria is what you would expect from a ski hill in that it is overpriced, average food but then again that is par for the course at ski resorts. One thing they do and other hills should take note is that they have a microwave so you can heat up any food you brought from home. This is smart and i haven't seen this at many other hills or if it is there I haven't noticed it. Once your ski day is done you should head to the bar for an aprés ski. It has a rustic feel to it and they have live music on Saturdays. They also get bonus points for having a local microbrew on tap which is something not every ski hill offers. It is a great place to wind down your day on the slopes before heading back to Montreal. read more

We visit the Mt Orford outdoor center quite often. It is open year round and provides outdoor activity such as hiking, cross country skiing, fat tire mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking and hiking. We stopped by today to do hiking. There is an entry fee of $7 per person. They tore down the old building and put up a wonderful new modern building that has a service desk, restrooms, a store and an eating area. There is ample parking in multiple lots. Quebec has the tax revenue to do some nice things for the community and this is an example of such a project. The hiking trails are cleared and well marked. The bike trails are wide and feature a crushed stone surface. There are restrooms and picnic tables along the trail. We saw a log cabin and a sugar house as we hiked the 5.5 mile trail around the lake. You can do shorter trails if you wish. The trail itself was beginner/intermediate with a few scrambles up rocky areas with tree roots. We saw lots of people of all ages on the trail. We also come here for snow shoeing in the winter. read more

Mont Orford is a little ski resort in Eastern Townships, easily accessible through highway 10 from Montreal The hill is well developed and in my view is perfect for families with kids and people who are working on their skiing skills. There are few more difficult runs for skiers in need of a challenge. My preferred ski area is under a little slow chair on the right side of the lodge, few easy runs that are normally not maintained after snow fall and you can find the best powder in there. Take your time in a nice sunny day to enjoy the view of lake Magog from the top of the mountain. The ski lodge is new with good facilities and the people working there are really friendly. Besides skiing the National Park of Orford offers more outdoor activities, including nice hiking trails for the warmer months. read more

This is the place to do Hiking, two hours away from Montréal, you won't be disappointed it. I went with my friends a couple of days ago, we did 21 km in 5 hours, you can enjoy moderate climbing as well as hard. Don't forget to bring a lot of water. read more

The good: different service levels available depending how you'd like to camp. Well maintained washrooms, even sinks provided for dishes. Best part: very low bug level. Amenities were better than most sites. The bad: even once you pay for your campsite, you then need to pay an additional fee per person... They also make you pay for EVERYTHING. If you want to take a hike on PATH A, you need to go pay first. And if you've paid for PATH A, and they find you on PATH B, you get a FINE. It's absurd. Also, your entire campsite is gravel. You're not allowed on the grass -_- Our experience? We showed up around 6, they couldn't find our reservation (by phone) even with the name and phone number. We had asked (and been confirmed) the campsite next to the couple we were going with but it was reserved under a different name and already had campers in it. We went and stayed at our friends campsite instead. Around 8 pm (after sunset) they come and tell us that they found our reservation, on the other side of the camp! (We reserved 91-93, they told us our site was in fact 180 something). Obviously it was useless to pack up, move and reset camp AFTER DARK considering we were leaving the next morning. They tried to charge us for the site anyways. Clearly there's something wrong with their system and not all the staff understood that the fault was theirs and not ours when speaking to us. read more

The lift tickets are on the expensive side, but they give you access to the tallest vertical in the Eastern Townships and a state-of-the-art 6-person chair/gondola hybrid lift. Trails are a nice mix of well maintained groomers and some very challenging glades. Easily worth the extra 30 minute drive from Bromont. read more
