Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is a ride located in Disneyland's California Adventure. Disney World has Monsters Laugh Floor, but different than the ride at DCA. It's located next to the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. This ride takes you on a zip through scenes from the Disney and Pixar film Monsters, Inc. on a wild taxi ride with familiar scare-acters. It is a slow ride, dark, and loud. It's geared towards all ages with no height restriction. Per disney, you venture inside the Monstropolis Transit Terminal and hail a taxi cab for a tour of the town. As your journey begins, an emergency "special report" is unexpectedly broadcast inside your cab--a human child is loose in Monstropolis and must be caught! During your journey, you help friendly monsters such as Mike and Sulley as they race to return little girl Boo safely to her home. It's a fun ride. The typical wait time is usually between 20 to 40 minutes, depending on how busy it is at Disney's California Adventure. It's very similar to Snow White, Pinocchio, and Wild Toad's ride located at Disneyland. I was content enough with the comfort of our taxi, but this city needs some help. A HUMAN CHILD loose in the city?!?! What kind of Mickey Mouse Operation are they running here?!?! Also the restaurant was DISGUSTING! What a mess. The locker room was gross. There was a horrible lizard looking monster causing havoc. We got sprayed and suspected of human child hiding by the CDA. And to top it off a very negative customer service interaction immediately before returning home. I love this ride! Even just lining up for the ride gave me hardcore nostalgia and made me want to rewatch the movies. There's SO many teeny little details that made the entire experience very legit. I've always loved the sushi scene in the movie and I really felt like I was in it. All the scenes were so ridiculously cool and cute. I truly believe this is an attraction that both kids and adults will enjoy! I am a huge fan of Sulley specifically, so of course that means I love (right?) Monsters Inc. and MU! There was a good chunk of many years when I didn't have an AP so I don't recall what ride was here beforehand. But, it's gone away and now we have Monstropolis and a human child is on the loose! I'm usually always pleasantly surprised with the short wait time, usually 10-15 minutes, usually. This is a dark ride and so enjoyable! I head here on most summer days when I need a break from the heat. Pretty much follows the storyline: Boo, Sulley, Mike, Roz, all the fun stuff! I love seeing all the doors and I love love love the amazing attention to detail. One thing I miss is the "old" Roz. Circa 2008 I was here quite a bit and I will never forget what she told me at the end of our visit to Monstropolis: "Girl in the 3rd row, I like your hair." This ride is not my favorite - it's about a step up from Mr. Toad's wild ride, which in all honesty I think needs some interior design love. This last visit we waited about 20 minutes in line for what I would describe as a lazy cliff notes version of the movie. I can see how it would be beloved by some, but overall it lacks the atmosphere outside that Disneyland has for rides like Mr. Toads, Pooh, and Snow White. Monster's Inc is in a plain white building with a front structure that states the ride name and that's about the sum total of its outside design. My guess is that in the next few years Hollywood land will become something different and this ride will be turned into something else, likely Marvel themed. So it's probably good to get in a ride while you can. read more

I'm all about Monsters Inc. (Sulley is my MAN!), but this ride is really lazy. I remember waiting over an hour to ride when it first opened, and the disappointment I felt has stuck with me for years. Now the lines have died down and you can usually walk right on. It's a ride worth doing, but it could've been so much better. It's a vast improvement over the lame Superstar Limo ride that used to occupy the space and if you were unfortunate enough to experience that attraction, you'll giggle at how they've repurposed some of the ride (like Drew Carey is now a Hazmat dude, the limos are taxi cabs, and the paparrazi flashbulb is now a van full of feds). The ride has plain animatronics, their mouths don't even move, and features the soundtrack from the movie. So basically the imagineers just made some figures, stuck them in a ride, and put the movie's soundtrack behind them. It's not a bad ride, it just feels lame (especially the more times you experience it). Roz at the end of the ride used to interact with guests. You could talk to her and she'd say stuff back. Now she hardly ever works and there's just a canned response that she says. Boo! The best part is the inside queue area, with all sorts of little Easter eggs and puns. Make sure you keep an eye out for Dr. Stinkbaum's foot odor powder and the Bag O' Calories in the vending machine. read more

I like the classification of dark rides and thought the younger members of my party would as well. The party leader booked advance reservation for this ride for all members of our party, which shaved off some wait time since there was a line, though I thought the line was shorter the last time I was here. After this ride I think the older members of my party were not impressed with it. I think either they were not impressed with the low speed of the ride vehicle compared to Peter Pan or Mr. Toad or the animatronics were not as dynamic. As I rode in a different vehicle from the younger members I could not gauge their reactions. Anyway, the ride experience paralleled the Monsters Inc. film after Boo entered the monster world and the story of evading Randall. Compared to the other dark rides it was higher tech though it did have some black light areas that were hard to see in. Based on the comments of the members of my party this is one of those rides where it's not objectively fun with no context and one needs to have watched (and/or memorized) the movie prior to getting on the ride to enjoy (I think it is partially because it is not based off a well-known existing story as well). Or in the case of one of the older members of our party, criticized, as they felt Monsters Inc. was too scary for the youngest of our party (I had to smuggle Monsters Inc. merchandise as "contraband" to the younger members of my party due to the opinion of this party member). read more

I love Monters, Inc and Mike Wazowski is my favorite Disney character, so I might be a bit biased rating this ride...but I digress! It's a sweet, simple dark ride that transports you through Monstropolis. Lots of animatronics and extreme attention to detail. I can guarantee that each time you go through, you'll find something that you didn't notice before. Very immersive. Additionally, you can try spotting the remnants of the Superstar Limo ride that was leftover before it was converted to Monsters Inc. The blast of lemon scent was also super nice! I like this ride if I had to give you a quick review it is a monsters Inc. Why haven't I been on this ride? It's fun and takes you through the first Monsters Inc. story line. It's not a fast, fun-filled, roller coaster like California Screamin' or Space Mountain, but it's better than being on a carousel. My family and I just ADORE this ride, of course it helps to have seen the movie to really appreciate the ride. Sadly I have a handful of friends and family with kids who haven't seen the movie mostly because their kids were too scared to watch a "monster" movie when this really would be the kind of movie that would help them not to be afraid of what they seem to think may be lurking in their room at night. My daughter has been a big fan of this movie since she was 2-years-old and still is. We even bought the adorable "Boo" doll in her monster costume exclusively sold at Disneyland and World of Disney for her because she loved the show (and ride!) so much. This is such an adorable ride that really reflects on the movie from the careful details on the Japanese vinegar scented Harryhausen's Sushi Restaurant to the lemon smell on the Scare floor. The various scenes that they have captured and reenacted really make it an all around happy family friendly ride. I love that this ride is tucked away in the corner of the park and a lot of times we luck out that there's hardly a line for it. Of course I can't say the same for Spring, Summer and Winter Break. Lol! When you get the chance, watch "Monsters Inc" then go to Disneyland and take the time to go on this ride. It's not only for children, but for the adults too. =) read more

It was a very short wait for this ride, especially during the evening when people are probably waiting for the Mad T Party performances to start. This is a straight-forward dark ride in which you follow the story of the film. First, you're taken through Monstropolis, where there's a kid (Boo) running on the loose, causing havoc among the whole city and its monster civilians. You first go through the sushi restaurant that's in shambles, and then you're taken through Monsters Inc, where you see Sulley and Mike trying to get Boo back home. It's pretty much a standard Disney dark ride. At the end, Roz will give you her unique lines (she's hilarious). It makes me wonder if there's actually a camera inside Roz, and if someone can see all the riders and customize her sayings. read more

This was my 2-year old daughter's favorite ride in all of California Adventure and Disneyland. She's a big fan of the movie and it was nice to see her laugh and smile on the ride. MIke & Sulley in all their cuteness.... tryin to rescue little Boo, searching for the right door, "evil" interferes but yet in the end they are the heroes that they always have been! This ride is well laid out and easy to follow and understand. You venture through your journey in a 6 person taxi and there is rarely a line. It's a bit sad that there is not a longer line, however the placement of this ride is really poor. You have to literally go search for the ride because it is almost hidden inside California Adventure over by the shows and arcade. I'm betting the line would be longer if it were in a more frequented part of the park. The silly Monsters Inc characters are in true movie form and Disney does a great job capturing them they way Disney does. If you are a fan of the movie, or even if you aren't, this ride is definitely worth seeking out and enjoying it often. One of the best parts, kind of the grand finale if you will, is the confrontation with Roz near the end of the ride.... pay particular attention to what she is saying, she's talking about you!! Yes, YOU!! So silly, I just love it. Definitely deserves 5 stars, however whoever laid it out schematically in the park gets only 2 stars, shame on you! GO FIND IT, PEOPLE! I gotta be honest, here: this ride is a one time shot if you're over 8 years old. It's not that I dislike the Monsters, Inc. movies; on the contrary, it's one of my favorite Pixar franchises... When Boo is doing that "Kitty" stuff at the end of the first movie, and I'm all misty and choked up? Yeah. Oh, spoiler aler-- nevermind. Anyway, the ride is more like a pop-up book for beginning Lexile readers... The concept of a cab through Monstropolis starts cleverly enough, and then you're essentially relegated to cardboard cutout stills from the movie, and sound that's a little too loud or quiet at different times. There's a few special effects that are fun-- Randall's now ya see him, now ya don't is cool, the Abominable Snowman cameo made me laugh, and the door conveyor assembly was well-done, but having been on the ride and experienced its benevolently corny jokes (the vending machine in line, for example) and the Roz one-liners at the exit was enough for me. Having kids means I'll go on this ride many more times, and that's fine. Disneyland is for kids of all ages, but especially kids who are actually kids. Besides, I can't imagine how many times we made my parents take us on America Sings (sorry Millennials, that one might be before your time) and that ride was modeled after a medieval torture device. read more

It's Boo!! Monsters Inc. was one of my favorite Pixar movies and I really think they did a great job on the ride at California Adventure. Apparently this used to be a ride called Superstar Limo...it had a brief run when California Adventure first opened but closed shortly after and reopened as Monsters Inc. The ride itself basically takes you through the movie...you travel through parts where the reporters are talking about the presence of a human child, you go through the restaurant where Mike Wazowski is having dinner (you actually smell the ginger), and you even go through a room where it looks like there are thousands of doors flying around that Boo and Sullivan are trying to get though to her specific door. What makes this ride AWESOME is Roz. If you have been on the ride you know that at the very end of your ride you stop next to Roz (also known as Number 1 from the movie) and she talks directly to you...she magically knows that you are wearing glasses or that you are sitting in a specific seat...and she is sooooo funny! I would seriously ride this attraction just to hear what she has to say. The line is never too long...usually around 10-15 minutes so this is another one of those great spots to visit when everything else at California Adventure is busy. Boo! :0) read more

The most amusing part of the ride after you've gone through a couple of times, is to look at the menu of "Harryhausen's Sushi Restaurant" while waiting in line for this Monster's Inc themed attraction at Disneyland's California Adventure. Look closely though, because some of the items seem Monster Chinese...and Monster Americanized Japanese. Made by Monster Korean or Monster Chinese sushi chef? Actually, the head chef is not really a monster, but an octopus. Well to be fair, the food is probably Monster Fu$ion. I really dig this ride: we ride it at least once every DL trip. The characters look amazing, the ride is entertaining. TONS to look at; you need to ride more than once to appreciate the details, (including those hidden Mickeys...) In my experience, the line is rarely long. This last trip we went toward the end of the day, when the Mad T Party was in full swing. We walked right on! You essentially get taken through the entire movie, brought to life in front of you: from Sulley finding Boo, to Mike's ruined sushi dinner date (which looks amazing, def my favorite part of the ride), to the locker room, the door warehouse and the decontamination team. You meet life-sized Sulley, Mike, Boo, Randall, and there's even Abominable Snowman sighting. A giant Edna even talks to you on the way out! VERDICT: GO for sure, especially if you like the film. Surprised this one had a 20 minute wait, as it's kind of your typical old school Disney ride where you sit down and move along a track and see all the animatronic characters move around from the move. That's all it really is. That's not a bad thing per say, but for the wait you would think it would be something more. Than again, the Peter Pan ride still gets crazy long rides and it's pretty much the same thing. Overall, it's a fun ride especially if you're a fan of the movie, but it's not one of the parks best. read more

This is a fun ride that typically has a shorter line than some of the other rides nearby. It's animated and rings similarly to the move, "Monster's Inc." I used to overlook this ride, but after taking notice of it over the last few months, I have come to realize, it is severely underrated. I remember the weird Hollywood version of the ride when California adventure first opened and it was a limo ride. Instead, it has been upgraded into a nice taxi ride through Monstropolis. Stepping into line, you feel like you are about to go through the city with ads for public transit as well as a billboard for the sushi restaurant Mike goes to. The ride goes through the story of the Monsters Inc movie and you follow Sully, Mike, and Boo on their adventures through the city. The special effects on this ride are pretty good and a step up from the classic room to room ride you would expect from Fantasyland in Disneyland. there are some hidden mickeys on this ride on the characters' bodies, so be on the lookout. There is also one on the advertisement in line for the cab company (hint: it is in the headlights of the logo). This is a must ride for any little kid or anyone who has seen Monsters Inc. The line usually moves quickly and is usually 10-15 minutes. I wouldn't wait more than 30 minutes for this ride...maybe come back when it dies down because it usually does. read more

Monsters Inc. happens to be one of my favorite Pixar/Disney movies! I can't believe I've never been on this ride until now. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue is tucked away by Flynn's arcade in a forgotten part of the park. You walk into a 6-person taxi cab and are whisked away. A special news report comes on indicating that a human child is loose in the city and dangerous. The ride does take you through a portion of the movie where Boo has followed Sulley to the Monster world and how they try to get her back home. I loved how they did the room with the doors! It was really cool and well done, recreating a scene from the movie. The details are well done and everything was great. I wish that the ride lasted longer but you can always go on it again! And of course Roz at the end making comments on your party alone. So cool. Don't do anything to tick her off! read more

Once upon a time, you used to be able to pretend you were a very famous person while sitting in a limousine as you drove past MANY celebrities (Google Superstar Limo). Now, you sit in a taxi. But it's not just any taxi! It's a Monstropolis taxi!!! From the wonderful world of Monsters, Inc.! Join Mike, Sulley, Randall, and Boo as the taxi takes you around, and you're thrown into the story of Monsters, Inc. - the first movie, not Monsters University. It's a great dark (storytelling) attraction where you got to keep your nose alert - as you can smell wasabi at the sushi place and lemon if you open the door to the abominable snowman! Would I recommend this attraction? Yes! Make sure to pay attention at the end of your ride, as Roz might say something you don't want to miss!!! read more

Located in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot section of Disney's California Adventure stands the fun filled ride, Monsters Inc., This attraction features a leisurely taxicab ride through the city of Monstropolis. Until, something goes horribly wrong and you quickly find that a Boo, a human child is running loose through the city. I had a great time on this ride and especially loved the re-creation of the door warehouse and thought it was cool when the taxicab cruised through the sushi bar and I got a whiff of ginger. The ride takes on after the movie/story as most Disney rides do. Monsters, Inc. offers California Adventure with an entertaining, dark ride with a strong family appeal that does not disappoint its riders. If you have the opportunity, check this ride out especially if you have little ones. It will not disappoint. read more

Very cool--- love the movie, love this ride too! It's family-friendly, but not just for kids; we were enjoying this attraction before our son came along. Part I (this review was started last year): Luckily, we got to ride this again (with our son, this time) a few months ago (side story: the main park closed and we went to this park and were only able to go to three attractions in three hours time---guess everyone had the same idea!). This time around, the wait was very long, as everyone tried to squeeze one last thing in. It was near closing (8 pm) and there were so many people in line. I heard one guy working there said "There's no way..." The same story line as the movie, so you see the door reference, on a large scale. And every thing, is pretty much movie-accurate. You get to see all the characters, too. And many different scenes (downtown, the restaurant, the lab, etc. from the popular movie. Also, an honorable mention of the story line carried throughout the line area, the catchy-named products from the movie. I love all the scenes on this ride, because it mirrors the movie---it just feels like you are there, right in the middle of it. Part II (this year): We got to ride it but without our son, because this part of the park was closing early for a private party (corporate event) so we squeezed in, in between a parade (when the gate re-opened), which was not mentioned, just a little sign in front of the area (*****I think all closures should be on a marquee in the front, upon entering the park*****). It was disappointing, because now, he is a little older and likes the characters because he's seen the movies a few more times, too. read more

This ride employs scents like ginger and lemon in different sections of the ride which really adds for a special treat! One time, we got to meet Sully out front before going in! This ride is super CUTE! I love how there's a "breaking news" announcement made on the small television screen within your vehicle. Then, you are taken through a synopsis of the Monsters Inc movie. The best part is the end when Roz makes some "interesting" comments for one of the guests in the vehicle. She did not like my glasses. Hmph! Her comments aren't crude but they are pretty funny. This ride is very cute!!! My daughter never lets us come to California Adventure without getting on it. During the first half of the day this line is rather short because everyone is more concerned about getting to the more popular rides like Toy Story Mania, California Screaming, and especially the Radiator Springs Racers. The line never gets too long, but when the park is crowded it gets really long like everything else. However, the line moves rather quickly. The ride basically takes you through the entire movie, covering the important points. You ride in a taxi through Monstropolis after Boo has escaped from the factory. You ride through Harry Hausen's where Celia's birthday has been ruined and all the monsters are in a massive panic over the "invasion" of a child in Monstropolis. The restaurant also smells like ginger when you enter. You go through the factory and get to see things up close. If you notice, Mike's eye is sometimes green and sometimes blue. When you go through the area with all of the doors a few of them will open up to show you different things such as when Geaorge has the sock on him, or the abominable snowman tries to give you lemon snowiness, and you can even smell the lemon. At the end Roz says something specific about each car which is really cute. A good time to get on this ride is when the Mad Tea Party is going on because people are more interested in dancing on and around each other than getting on the ride. #39/100 read more

Cute ride. Fans of Monsters Inc will love this ride, which is essentially a trip through the first Monsters movie. The animatronics for this ride are as good as any other in the park. It's a fairly short ride, but worth going. There are many things to look at and the doors near the end are funny, as is Roz at the very end with her unique sayings to each passing car.
