I have eaten here a handful of times but this will be my first review and i'll kind of reflect on previous visits. Parking for the diner is easy even though this spot is 24/7 and almost seems busy every time i'm here. Once you enter you're greeted immediately and sat within the first few seconds of walking in. Today we got breakfast and it came out quick and this is what my girlfriend, her mother and i ate. My gf had pancakes, eggs and sausage and enjoyed it so much she ate it in just a few minutes! Her mother had the breakfast plate with eggs, sausage and home fries and she finished her plate. I ordered the house made sausage gravy and biscuits with home fries and the plate was huge! i have leftovers but enjoyed the dish and will enjoy eating the rest of it later! My gf and her mom come here every other weekend and like the fast and friendly service along with good prices and decent sized portions. in the past i have had a variety of dishes on their menu and this place has a large and rather unique menu that has a little something for everyone. once i'm living down here this spot will become a regular spot for me too!

I discovered That both were founded and named, by devout Protestant settlers. It's always fun. Learning how places got their name. (history lesson complete, we now return you to your regularly scheduled review.. :). It's a very large diner, and they are open 24/7. The place has a lot of seating, I was served by Ray, and his service was absolutely fantastic, including him coming by to check on me every now and then to make sure everything was OK. I didn't even need to look at the menu. Scrapple and eggs. It's definitely an acquired taste, which I acquired the very first time I tried it It's actually "pig parts", mixed with oatmeal and formed into a loaf. As Guy Fieri would say, "from the heel, to the squeal." It was created by the Pennsylvania Dutch, as a way to use as much of the pig, as possible. . The same way that many Latin cultures do with a cow. It's a rich complex flavor. By itself, it's a bit strong, so I always put just a little bit of ketchup on mine, and the ketchup adds to, and mellows out the flavor. Some hard-core people actually put grape jelly on theirs. I tried that with a little piece of scrapple one time and no... That's a little too hard-core for me. The eggs were perfectly done, the coffee was great, the toast was a high-quality, rye, and instead of potatoes, I asked for fruit, and got a nice cup of very fresh fruit. The price was very reasonable. I'm a fan. Next time I'm in town, I would gladly come here again. Thank you.

I spoke to a manager about an order that was incorrect as well as messy and unappealing. I was being kind, I did tell him they'd often made errors that I never even called them about. He interrupted me and said, "what he would do is never do business with that restaurant again." I was SO SHOCKED that he said that to a long time customer who'd given them hundreds and undreds of dollars, so much business and referrals over the years. I responded with that was a great idea. I stopped doing business there for a couple of months. I then decided to give them one more chance. I placed an order. It came incorrectly made. I called them. They told me that for the $56.00+ that they charged me, they would only refund me $10.00 (the cost of the pasta, they said) or I could have it remade. I opted for the remake. It arrived and was the grossest meal I'd ever seen, as well as made wrong. It was thick, slimy and had loads of butter-the recipe calls for no butter, I've never seen it made that way. I will never do business there again. For a manager to say that to a loyal customer is unacceptable to me as well as the $10.00 refund for a charge over $56.00 when the mistake was on their part. The managment and customer service there is horrible. They don't deserve anyone's business. They took my love for them and trashed it with their subpar food and attitudes.

I love the food here and the service is even better. I always try to visit wherever I am in town.read more

I first found Giacomo's when I moved from Jersey to the Lehigh Valley more than 20 years ago. Long…read morebefore the sons of the original owner opened the Market and Grill in College Hill. Raised in Brooklyn, NY for 20 years, my expectations were low. The old man closed his store and retired and I discovered the tradition moved forward in the new College Hill store. The original Giacomo's was not a grill, but the old man (whose name escapes me), knew how to make sausage. Imported cheeses and olives with bread brought in from NYC made this a no brainer for folks like me. The old man couldn't retire and he came in just to make the sausage - of which the thin (pictured) parsley and cheese sells out the same day quite often. My favorite - though the other varieties are top notch too. I heard he still makes the sausage today but I can't confirm or deny that. Having moved to Naples, FL and then Myrtle Beach, SC - I had long forgotton Giacomo"s. Now back in PA (Allentown), I recently wanted good ravioli. The company that make the best ravioli in the world is Pastosa's. I went to their website and saw they opend a bunch of stores in both NY and NJ. I had just about talked myself into an hour or more ride when I found they also sold at select retailers. Wouldn't you know Giacomo's is one of them. My car drove itsel to Giacomo's and I got a box of the large ravioli, a bag of home made meatballs, and a qusrt of homeade tomato sauce. OMG - Pastosa still make the best ravioli in the world. And Giacomo's seel the full line including a bunch of ravioli varities, stuffed shells, manicoti and more.Of course I picked up some Italian specialties along the way while there. HEAVEN! Don't go hungry and bring plenty of money - because it's easy to drop a hundred dollars there and you'll have ZERO buyers remorse. Check out their website ba cause this review just scratches the surface of all the authentic Italian delicacies they have. Don't forget Junior's Cheescake - Simply The Best!
