The people who work here are very loud. I rarely use this library because it is so loud.

This was my fourth visit to the library, and unfortunately, the experience continues to be…read moredisappointing. I'm not sure if the staff are volunteers or employees, but they consistently come across as having a chip on their shoulder. Today, I visited with my kids (ages 5-8), one of whom is on the autism spectrum. His stimming and occasional grunting are normal behaviors for him, but the staff showed no empathy or understanding. Instead, one employee repeatedly checked on us, constantly reminding us to lower our voices and enforcing rules without considering the circumstances. The overall atmosphere felt unwelcoming and overly rigid, especially for a place that should encourage children to learn, explore, and feel comfortable. While I understand the need for order, there's a balance between maintaining rules and being flexible enough to allow kids to be kids. I truly hope the library staff can undergo some training in inclusivity and customer service so it can become a space that feels welcoming to all members of the community.

It is slightly more than an hour's drive from New York City--when there is no traffic. Although most visitors don't make it to the area surrounding the mall, you should know that Woodbury is literally surrounded by State Parks, most notably Harriman State Park, West Point and the Storm King Arts Center.
