I hate how quickly parking goes sometimes, but there is always a spot open within a block or two, so that's not a big deal in regards to distance. I only hate it because I've been followed walking to the library before even when I've parked in the closest spots to the door in the parking lot. I've been solicited and bothered by people hanging out in the parking lots a few times through the years. Although I don't think I've ever visited and not seen security, the security is never outside but the problems are never inside. My browsing is admittedly a little unconventional. I'll plop on the ground in a corner or dead aisle and skim a book while debating whether it's worth my time to check out. It is weird but has never been an issue at other libraries yet seems to get security's attention at Middletown. While no member of security has said anything, I don't like it because how am I getting all your attention while the people circling the parking lot asking everyone who stops for money going unnoticed. I prefer patronizing the other RCLS locations, although this library is so close that I can walk there from home. The others give more library vibes. Aside from Port Jervis, no one side eyes me for anything. I can't remember how many times I've even fallen asleep while studying at other libraries, and at most someone might tease me about picking a more engaging book next time. In Goshen a reference librarian even encouragingly suggested a quieter spot in a corner to nap so I could wake up fresh for another round of studying. I have a feeling security would chase me out if I ever did that at Middletown. Some librarians might as well. But because I don't feel comfortable there, it's not my choice study spot anyhow. All that said, I did choose my home mostly because of the proximity to the library and because this library is a part of the RCLS system. I do think it's one of the most underrated gems of Middletown. it just doesn't always pass the vibe test, especially is used to the vibes at most of the other RCLS libraries.

While I understand that libraries want to maintain a safe space for their patrons, I've found it…read moreuncomfortable after visiting a handful of times, seeing all the cops around and then being questioned to show my ID as an adult based on my youthful appearance due to their suspicion that I was committing "truancy" during school hours. I showed my ID, but I'm also aware that NYS is not a stop and ID state without a reasonable suspicion of a crime, and truancy is not a crime an adult can commit, nor is appearance a "reasonable suspicion". Somehow I've found big city libraries more inviting and I'll continue to stick to other libraries.

The staff and professors at the time were awesome and I built the foundation that set me up for my entire career at OCCC. I met some great people there, a few of which are still lifelong friends. I really enjoyed their summer reading program they offered this year for adults. My biggest complaint is with a few of the staff members. There are a few staff who are very rude and unhelpful. A few times I asked an older gentleman for help and he quickly responded in a rude matter, saying I can't help you. He wouldn't even try to ask a colleague or attempt to help me. I finally found a different librarian and they had to remedy the situation and teach their colleague the process. On the other hand, there are many librarians who are very friendly and helpful, but it doesn't go for everyone. In addition, they are very quick to accuse you of damaging books. The smallest tear or stain requires you to pay a large fine to replace the book. There is something called wear and tear that happens when books are lent out to people and that's the reality of a library. Overall, I am happy with the library and appreciate the resources.

It's built of stones in a style that was commonly used in this part of Orange County, NY. It now is used as the office for the Town Historian. It's on Route 32 a few miles north of Woodbury Common Premium Outlets.

Run by volunteers who are either retired or are simply looking for a way to keep themselves entertained, they're not there to provide stellar customer service. They're there because someone needs to be there. They're not getting paid, they don't kiss ass, and they'll take their time because let's face it, I just end up ogling the books other people are bringing in anyway. Saturdays are particularly entertaining because they get a flood of new books, and since they're being sold for a song, that's my favorite time to go. Not to mention how funny the volunteers get when they're overwhelmed with trunkfuls of books dropped off by impatient adult children cleaning out their elderly parents' homes. Then the newer parents with preteen kids often dramatically acquiesce to their kids begging for a 25 cent book, but ONLY, if they unload the dishwasher, finish laundry and clean their room. Smart. The next Pixar movie, with bargain basement book prices to boot. Bring the popcorn, I've got an extra folding chair with your name on it.

this place is a complete joke i've been standing near the bus stop in the same spot for the past 5…read morefreaking years even while i've lived here (not parked) meaning i could've moved if necessary at any given time in case of an emergency. well today kids where playing football near my car and one of them ended up hitting my car this kid came up and grabbed the ball and walked away and didn't even apologize to me nor my boyfriend who was in the passengers side. they've had this rule of no ball playing around cars etc while i lived here for 5 years and all of a sudden its an issue because im no longer a tenant and when i called the office to at least tell the kids to move farther away instead i got yelled at and got the door slammed in my face not only by liz the executive director but also by that other spanish girl all i was looking for was an apology at the most from the kid thats it! this kid had the nerve to say that i disrespected him only because i had asked for an apology. if standing ( not parking) at the spot that i was in such an issue then why didnt they mention something to me 5 years ago when i first moved in? other parents do the same i am not the only one. cops pass me all the time and never for the past 5 years have a cop said something to me about being in that spot and the fact that liz the executive director told me she was gonna call my kids school to find out the bus stop that they are actually supposed to be taking is an invasion of privacy. kids walk from this bus stop to the apartment across the street tall oaks ive also seen parents walk from tall oaks to drop off and pick up there kids at this bus stop yet elizabeth (liz) had the nerve to tell me that my kids shouldnt be getting on this bus because i no longer live here (understandable) but its a public road for crying out loud she cant tell me where i can drop off or pick up my kids sorry for trying to make my life a littler easier by sticking with the same bus my kids are used to taking. the kids tried denying hitting my car yet its all captured on my camera that had audio as well. they said i was gonna beat up there mom etc again i have making up lies yet i have proof and they don't. im so glad i moved out when i did because apparently us faithfult tenants that have never been a day late with the rent dont matter.
