I have also been a member of the worship team for a long time, and it is just a great place to meet people and praise the Lord together! They have services at both 5:30 PM on Saturdays, and 9:00 AM on Sunday morning (8:30 summer hours). Saturday service is contemporary with the worship team, and Sunday is traditional with the choir and hymns. Pastor Tyce and Deacon Ed are great and the congregation is too! I especially like to listen to pastor Todd, he brings such a positive and joyful atmosphere to the service. I also like the way they spread the hymns across the service and if you come earlier (9AM), you can listen to the choir rehearsal and the pipe organ for half an hour! Overall I think it is a great church with so much history, and if you are lucky enough to get a tour of the church and the clock tower and the massive bell, you will learn so much about it and love every second of it.

With Tallis in hand I found a comfortable seat in a comfortable, and pretty sanctuary. I am a capable participant, and I enjoy the choreography of a crisp traditional service. I also like when there is room for people to grow Jewishly. For today members of the community had prepared and chanted beautifully from the Book of Ruth. There was a nice rhythm to the service. It ended by 12pm. People sang together. How nice that the Rabbi Emeritus is a welcome member of the congregation. The current Rabbi has a beautiful singing voice and seems to be a good leader. He read Torah today. He read fast, pronouncing the words correctly...not so concerned about perfect trop...(love it). I was a guest. Most of the people did not know me. Even so, they bestowed upon me the honor of holding the Torah during Yizkor. For middle of the week, attendance was not terrible. I recommend joining the congregation if you are in the area. Yorktown Heights is beautiful, too.

The sanctuary holds a lot of people and with such a small parking lot parking is a complete nightmare; cars are parked in no particular pattern. When we entered it wasn't obvious where the main sanctuary was at so if you are a first timer you may want to get there when others are also entering the building, otherwise you will wonder about aimlessly. They begin with "hymns" which I'm not a fan of but after the quick hymn they do sing charismatic christian songs, however I didn't find the church to be charismatic in the strictest sense of the word. On my visit they had a guest speaker who was decent at best and certainly didn't provide for an overall awesome experience; just a good one. If you are into a mid-sized church, a few hymns mixed with a few contemporary christian songs then this may be the church for you. They do provide children services for the youth during service and if you have a toddler they even provide a neat buzzer, like you get at a restaurant, in case your toddler needs your immediate attention while you are at the main service. This I thought was a really neat feature for the children.

There are a lot of churches in Newburgh and whatever your background is or church preference (i.e. baptist, Pentecostal, etc) you're sure to find something in the area. This is a small African American church I was invited to and I found it to be really, really small in terms of congregation size based on the number of attendees I saw during my visit. I found it to be filled with God loving people, pastors message was on point with biblical truths and overall a nice small church if that's what you're looking for. Often times people looking for a new church home know what size congregation they want. Some want really small churches like this one that tend to be more "family" oriented because of the small size while others are looking for what I call "mega" churches were they simply attend, warm a seat and get lost in the shuffle avoiding intimate relationships with the general congregation. It's all a personal preference and if you're looking for a new church I hope you find that perfect match. My experience at this church was super positive, my only complaint is the music and sound system was insanely loud. Otherwise, check it out for yourself and decide if it's the fit for you're individual needs.
