Profit Over Patients: A Deeply Disappointing Experience…read more This dental practice has left me questioning whether patient care is even a priority anymore, or whether everything has become a sales opportunity.   The practice abruptly stopped accepting insurance but told me they would honor my existing copays through the end of the year. Despite that assurance, I subsequently received an invoice for more than my agreed-upon copay and had to dispute the charge. That alone was frustrating enough.   Then came the sales pitch. When I arrived for a scheduled appointment, I was subjected to a hard sell for the practice's in-house insurance plan. First, the front desk staff worked on me. Next, Amanda, the hygienist, took her turn. Then Dr. Amanda Thompson was brought in to continue the pitch. What should have been a routine dental appointment felt more like being passed down a sales assembly line. Dr. Thompson subsequently left the practice, but the sales tactics apparently haven't changed.   Recently, my spouse went in for a scheduled cleaning and experienced the same pressure to purchase the practice's insurance plan. She was perfectly willing to pay the full price for her cleaning out of pocket. But because she did not purchase their plan, hygienist Amanda walked her out of the office, and the practice charged her a $100 no-show fee.   Let that sink in: she showed up for her scheduled appointment, was willing to pay for her cleaning, and left feeling so upset by the interaction that she paid the $100 fee.   How does a patient who actually shows up for an appointment end up being charged a no-show fee? I would like a clear explanation of that policy and why it was applied in this situation.   Taken together, these experiences paint a deeply troubling picture: disputed billing, aggressive sales pressure, and a punitive fee imposed on a patient who says she arrived ready for her appointment and willing to pay for her care.   Patients should not have to endure a sales pitch from multiple members of a dental team just to receive routine dental care. They should not have to wonder whether declining an insurance product will affect how they are treated.   A dental practice should earn patients' trust through quality care, transparency, and professionalism--not pressure tactics and billing disputes.   Are this practice's financial targets now more important than its relationships with loyal patients? We deserve better. I hope management takes a hard look at these policies and how patients are being treated, because this is no way to build lasting relationships or demonstrate that patient care comes first.

I am a survivor of sexual assault and currently live with severe anxiety, PTSD, and related…read moredisabilities. I receive weekly Spravato treatment under medical supervision. Due to my condition, some would probably recommend dental procedures where I can be put to sleep. However, there are no facilities in my area (jersey city) that provide sedation dentistry while also accepting my insurance. I have been dealing with ongoing dental issues for over three years and have made continuous efforts to find a provider who can accommodate both my medical needs and insurance. Many offices do not accept my plan, others have closed due to personal problems in their, and some such as Rutgers University, have waiting lists of five years or more . Your office is one of the only providers available to me that accepts my insurance and allows transportation through my plan. Being told that you are not comfortable performing a procedure that my insurance covers has added unnecessary stress and hardship to an already difficult situation. your response Clearbrook Advanced Dental Care (Owner) We genuinely empathize with the physical and emotional trauma you've endured. However, our dental facility lacks the necessary certification and capacity to treat individuals with your specific needs. While there are legal implications associated with treating you, our primary concern is your health. We would be more than willing to help you find a facility that better aligns with your requirements. Response to your Comment: I am responding to your comment to clarify my medical situation. My medical provider, who prescribes and monitors my Spravato treatment, has provided written documentation stating that I am medically cleared to safely undergo dental procedures using local anesthesia on the same day as my treatment. I have spent over three years trying to find a dental provider. Unfortunately, I have not been able to secure care elsewhere due to limited access--many offices do not accept my insurance, one have closed, and Rutgers University has extremely long waitlists. At this time, your office is the only option available to me that accepts my insurance and works with my transportation coverage. Since my last visit, my condition has worsened. I am now experiencing food getting trapped in my mouth, and it feels like there may be a hole forming near one of my teeth. This is causing increased discomfort, stress, and anxiety. I have submitted all required medical documentation and followed every step necessary for approval. Being denied care under these circumstances has caused additional emotional distress. I respectfully ask that you reconsider my case given the medical clearance and urgency of my condition.
