Monroe Deli WAS the go-to for many years. This is no longer the case. This place changed owners, and since then, everything has gone downhill from higher prices to poorer quality. If you go into Monroe Deli now, the place is always empty. You used not to be able to get a parking spot, including in the back of the building. Even with this, my family still tried to give the new owners a chance. We bought a pastry from the deli counter, and when we brought it home, we were disgusted to find out it was fully moldy inside. Went in today after not having gone for a while. It has changed owners a few times. I phoned in an order for a cheesesteak and an order of fries. Person on the phone was not pleasant. I didn't even get a time when it would be ready and no goodbye... just hung up on. Then I got called back to ask if it was a half or whole. Inside, I assume the man behind the register was the owner. He didn't know how to use the computer to ring me up. Long story short, I was charged $18 and change for a cheesesteak and fries. I walked from the register to the menus to see if there were prices but there weren't. I told the guy behind that counter that $18 is expensive for a cheesesteak and fries. His reply, "Yes, it is!" Been coming here for years! They have the best subs of all time here. The bread is always so fresh and the meats are incredible. This is literally the only place I stop at for subs and cold cuts. They also have pretty good prices on all their deli food and catering. Plus the staff and owner is super sweet. This place really changed lunch meat used, sub rolls, lettuce tomatoes all very different and not as fresh lettuce on my sub was brown and very soft rolls last time hard as a rock not even close to what they were a year or so ago. That has all changed. This place is on the second owner since the original owner Larry sold it. There was a good stretch of time when the store, inside and out, was constantly dirty and the quality of fresh food and customer service was declining rapidly. In 2019 made the conscious choice not to go here again after getting the worst breakfast sandwich and coffee along with a price increase on everything in the store. 11/2020 decide to give this place another try. Ordered a 1/2 roast beef sub and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich with a gallon of 1% milk. Total $14.18. WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS STORE!!! Gone are the days of quality food at a reasonable price. This place was once good but now it's very expensive I used to come here because the deli meat was cheaper than other places but now there more expensive then other places and the workers there gave me an attitude and it very unorganized in there and it's not very clean in there. I hope it will get better in the future I was very disappointed also they charge extra for roast beef on a sub after they raised their price on the sub. They've gotten really unorganized. I have been going to this Deli for months. I have to say the so called "rude woman" that everyone talks about is very nice and jokes around a lot. I guess you have to get a little more personable with her to understand her NY personality. The owner has been nice I've had no issues with him. They make fantastic subs at affordable prices and I can always pick up a few items on their shelves whenever I don't have the need for grocery shopping. They should reduce the 16 to 20oz soda items down 50 cents more instead of what you would pay for a full 2 liter (ridiculous)!! The home fries need improvement! The coffee bar is great! Self serve with all the "fixins" at a great price. The Staff is really great but now and then you get one or two who are rude. The place is ALWAYS packed in the early morning and early evening hours.
