My wife and I lived here during four years and liked it very much. Management of the building which consists of Shamin, the landlord, and Ruben, the on-site manager, was very friendly, responsive and helpful, with the maintenance man, Pedro, always fixing/changing things in a quick and polite way. The property is located extremely close to Santa Monica, lots of shops, restaurants and metro station Expo/Bundy. Neighbors were multicultural, nice and quiet. The only issue at the beginning was a homeless community under the highway bridge, but it has become much cleaner and safer since then. I have consistently experienced the best residential support services with Monnette Regency Apartments. The staff are friendly, helpful and very dedicated to keeping the premises clean and safe. Anytime I have submitted a maintenance request I have received a prompt response. Whether it was changing light bulbs, replacing/removing furniture, or servicing the plumbing and electricity, maintence quickly and thoroughly ensured that I have an optimal living environment. I intend to continue renting from Monnette Regency Apartments and I strongly recommend their properties to anyone looking for affordable rent in the Los Angeles area. read more

STAY FAR AWAY!!!! Don't even waste 2 seconds considering this moldy dump! I was here 3 year toooo long and I regret not leaving after my lease was up. Management is HORRIBLE! The so-called on-site manager Rachel is a manipulative, disrespectful, lying, 2-faced old woman who will come off really nice at first, then try to make different threats against you to get money out of it or kick your out if you try to let her know about a problem you're having at the apartment. She's the kind of person who was given a tiny bit of responsibility, took the power and ran with it. For the longest time she withheld the manager's number from me whenever I had an issues and wanted to speak to him. If you have a leak anywhere, you're better off fixing it yourself, keep the receipt as proof because it will take days for someone to come by, if they even bother. The maintenance man they hire to do everything is cheap and sloppy. The property manager Sharim is just as horrible of a person, extremely unprofessional, arrogant and beyond rude. One time during an inspection, I was yelled at by Sharim because he accused me of stealing a smoke detector, but when I got the apartment it never had one to begin with and Rachel knew that but refused to say anything knowing it was her fault. Nothing is ever up to code or fixed properly. The elevator is always broken, sometimes for a month at a time it will be out of service. - The washer machines are always breaking down, at one point all 3 floors had to use the 3rd floor washer and dryer for like 2 weeks because on the other 2 floors, they were out of service (shocker). - The hot water in the whole building had to get shut off more than once. - The water, in general, has been cut off so no one in the building could shower, wash dishes, wash your hands, etc. (multiple times) - Your cars aren't even safe in the garage even if there are cameras. My car was broken into one night, Rachel refused to show me footage and I know for a fact the cameras work because I have gotten footage from them twice before. She was clearly lying. - Your packages will be either stolen or opened if they are left down stairs by the mail. Happened to me a couple times before. I'm pretty sure Rachel opened one of my packages because she was assuming I had a dog and was probably looking for evidence such as pet items. (I never had a dog) - Twice, the office was broken into & tenants rent check's were stolen. No one is ever in the office. The only time you see someone in there is collect rent money. - The a/c unit in the rooms are absolute crap, plus costly over time. In the summertime, only the room will be cool, the rest of the apartment will be steaming hot. I've had lots of food go bad in the summertime. You're better off paying a little bit more at a place with central ac/heating and being comfortable than a crappy, moldy ac unit you have to have on all day and night long. - Management has entered my apartment w/o permission as well a couple times. - Robberies in the area and homelessness have gone up unfortunately, so that's never fun to deal with. Management tries to cover up their mistakes quietly & in a cheap way instead of fixing the problem, so watch out because they are very sketchy, sneaky people. read more

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE! All of the negative reviews are true! There is a long history here of managers abusing their power, including ILLEGALLY entering units with NO prior notice when they think no one's home (which is a violation of tenant rights)! It's not unlikely that making reasonable complaints here will lead to staff trying to set you up to cover their own mistakes. If the staff doesn't like you, they will use petty & unprofessional tactics on you. If you rely on the 1 elevator instead of the stairs, they will keep the elevator turned off as long as possible after being cleaned, even after the cleaning people have cleared it for use. If there is an issue with payment, it will be brought up publicly in front of other people instead of discreetly in the office. Don't expect that paying your rent on time & treating staff with respect will save you from the mistreatment here. The people who run this place have no respect for other people & will take advantage of you every chance they get. This place is criminally dangerous! A worker climbed onto our balcony & ILLEGALLY trespassed after we told him to stop. The worker was never fired & we were asked not to call the police. Within a week, another unit was broken into & vandalized. Still, no one was fired & no cops were called. The parking garage gate is often broken & stuck in an open position leading to theft, etc. Additionally, sometimes the lights in the parking garage go out & it's completely dark - very dangerous! The building is wired horribly. You never know which electrical outlet is going to spark at you when you try to use it. Outlets are set up near sinks instead of wide open counters, making it dangerous to navigate. Maintenance is slow here, a washer once sat with the dirtiest, smelliest water sitting in it for almost an entire month! The cleaning people use products that smell incredibly toxic! If you have to use the elevator, you may find yourself trying to hold your breath because the "clean smell" is so overwhelming. At least one time the mail wasn't delivered because the code to get in wasn't working & the manager wouldn't answer her phone (big shocker!). On multiple occasions, checks have been stolen from the office mail box. There are lots of problems here with the mail... If your unit is close to any of the stairs, expect your apartment to shake as people use them. There's shaking & loud slams anytime someone comes through the building's front or side doors. The walls are super thin so expect to hear your neighbors & for them to hear you. There are constantly homeless people out front yelling profanities & insults - especially at night. Expect to hear the police & helicopters during the day (also stopping traffic right in front of the building) & firetruck sirens in the middle of the night because of a fire/domestic dispute from the dozens of homeless, who reside in the alley & under the freeway just a few doors down. Money is wasted here on cosmetic, superficial changes to manipulate & entice new customers instead of focusing on the structural changes that actually need fixing. Any functional changes that are made to this building are most likely the result of a major fire breaking out (like the one in 2009), a lawsuit, or some government enforcement. Whatever amount they're asking for rent is probably too much considering the quality presented. Read the reviews & find a better spot! If you do happen to move here: - Make sure you list anything that isn't perfect in excruciating detail on the move-in sheet or it will likely be used against you later. They will look for any reason to keep your deposit here. - Make sure you get everything in writing & trust nothing that isn't; Take nothing for granted! The people who run this building are incredibly petty & vindictive & will use anything they can against you. They are not beyond writing lies so make sure to keep your own documentation in excruciating detail. Take pictures! Be ready to use your camera whenever dealing with "management" here as they have been known to lie & deny basic tenant rights! You have been warned! read more

I lived in this apartment for many years. As a student, the area was great for me; school was only minutes away, and I could explore and relax at the local parks or visit Sawtelle & Olympic. The apartment itself was reasonably priced for me as I was a student/worker and had additional bills to pay that I wasn't getting support for. My first impression was of the friendly, bilingual staff that were open to answer any questions I had. They were also very patient with me as I was nervous about living on my own. They took the time to carefully meet with me and discuss what it is I wanted or needed from a living space. Something that I didn't get from other apts. that I was interested in. Once I made my decision, I was able to move in right away. The apt was very clean and dust free, with a nice view away from the freeway. Also, you would think the freeway would be annoying...but it really wasn't an issue in terms of noise level. After I moved out, I recommended this place to my close friend and she is very grateful to have found this place. She says the people are still friendly and available to solve her issues at all times. Not once, did they enter my apt. without my permission. They always made sure to give me notice and fix any issues I had within a day or two. Which was only one time I accidentally clogged the sink disposal...I would also like to mention that the residents are very diverse, quiet and range in age. read more

I used to live here about 5 years ago and the place was a mess. I drove by recently and was shocked by the further degradation of the property. It literally looks like its falling apart. The people who manage this place are flat out slum lords. I remember how Every time there was a tremor, you could hear the beams of wood and pipes creaking and moaning like the building wasn't going to make it. A fire once started on the third floor and there was no fire alarm that went off for the building. We only knew it was on fire cause the fire truck pulled up out front. I am sure that there is black mold growing all over the place from the water used to put out the fire. The hall carpets from 1979 probably still have not been replaced. I had a piece of the popcorn ceiling tested and yes it does have asbestos in it. if they ever do any work on your apartment and need to cut into the ceiling (like they did in my apartment) you will be breathing in asbestos. Its sickening that places like this are allowed to exist and charge the kind of money they do. I am so glad I do not live here anymore. read more

I am shocked no one else has wrote a review of this place, apartment ratings has a bunch ( the 2 good reviews on that site were put up by management.) I lived in this horrible building for a couple of very long years and this is what I noticed.. - The lobby was in the "process" of being renovated for at least 2 years. (it's not big, its just a glorified hallway) the renovation was finally done and its really the only part of the building that seems nice. - The carpet in hallways is from the 80's. It is the most disgusting thing I have seen and i know there must be things living in it that are older than i am! there was a fire on the third floor and even after tons of water damage the carpet is still there! - The fire on the third floor supposedly caused by someone "making dinner" it was a huge fire and I find that really hard to believe but who knows. What I do know is that none of the fire alarms went off! - Washing machines and dryer are always broken. After months of the washing machine slamming up against the wall cause it was unbalanced it finally went. I came home to find water pouring into the garage from the ceiling and the whole area around the machine was soaked. The dryer doesn't even get hot and your clothes come out still wet, another 75 cents down the drain. (btw 2 weeks later this machine was still not fixed) -Not that safe. Items are stolen from the garage and packages in front of your door. crazy homeless people frequent the area and alley behind the building, yelling obscenities all hours of the day and night. -wiring issues. I don't know what is up with the electrical wiring in this place but nothing ever works right not to mention every time time warner cable comes out to hook up Internet or cable they always have to come back because of unforeseen wiring issues where they basically have to rewire/cable the building. - Air quality is like sucking on an exhaust pipe! barrington is a very busy street and you have the 10 not even a block from the building. the building its self has no hvac system so i brought my own air filter, the filter had to be changed once a month and was black! that's not normal! my screen door would be covered in a thick grey "dust" actually this "dust" covered almost everything I owned. I call it "dust" because it wasn't normal, normal dust can be taken of with a damp rag, this dust needed hot soapy water on a scrub brush! it was sticky! what kind of dust is sticky? i had a white phone turn grey cause of this stuff! scary! what do my lungs look like? -rent is not cheap and for what you are getting you should be paying A LOT less. -Leaky windows/doors/ceilings -Termite damage to walls/floors -Heater is a Fake "fireplace" that smells like something died in it when you turn it on. I turned mine on once and never used it again. air conditioner was way worse it looked like it was from the 80's and could open up another hole in ozone layer all by itself. needless to say i never turned it on. -Rusty water in the pipes, forget about ever taking a bath again , even if you manage to get a tub/shower with a working drian stopper. -They need to just tear this place down and start over again. It's that bad. I could say more but none of it would be good, I feel bad for anyone who rents here, it is a truly depressing and unhealthy place.
