My church submitted a brief proposal and was one of those selected for a grant sufficient to groom a dozen needy trees on our site in the international district. Baca's crew was on time and very efficiently and carefully trimmed the trees and mulched the limbs removed. Their clean-up was exemplary, and at our request they even placed half of the mulch on a small public open space across from the church. That open space was also created a decade ago with significant help from Baca's, who provided many of the plants used as well as site prep and irrigation materials, all as a community service. At my own nearby home in 2020, Baca's Trees crew expertly removed two huge juniper trees planted too close to the house 65 years ago. It's been three years since Legacy Tree Company worked on our beloved 60-year-old mulberry, and I can confidently say their work was extraordinary. Our enormous mulberry had split down the middle -- the crack widened with every strong wind, and we were terrified it would come down on our home or hurt someone. We had several very large branches come down and we were running on luck. Every other company said it had to be removed. Harrison and his team at Legacy were the only ones willing to try something different. They consulted with multiple experts, designed custom drill bits, and engineered a one-of-a-kind bracing system that literally married the two halves of the tree together. It was a huge undertaking and a real gamble, but they understood how much the tree meant to us -- it's our only summer shade, and it shelters countless birds. Year one was touch and go; we weren't sure the tree would survive. The stress of the repair and the previous damage took a toll, and we watched closely through every season. Between the dog digging under and the one or two big rains we had part of the highest wall collapsed. We called Alonzo for a plan and estimate. We wanted a block wall with a cleaner look, tiers the same height across the length, stairs to the top, and a way to divert the water run-off for any large storms. This involved taking down over 100 railroad ties, movinv tons of sandy dirt, adding irrigation and top soil, to the second level for planting, laying 80 lb blocks and caps, steps, grading the top level to direct any run off away from the wall and toward the rock lined retention pond and slope at the side, back filling dirt behind the walls and compacting as much as possible. In addition he restored the rock landscaping in the front that was disrupted with the equipment and rock uaed for the back. His team was on the job every morning before 7, and worked until 4:30, taking minimal breaks other than a normal lunch , they cleaned up their trash and whatever trash was associated with the project, and made sure our gate was secured at end of day so our dog didn't get out of the yard. They were respectful and polite and worked hard. It was an expensive project with a lot of work, completed in about 2 weeks, and is beautiful. Also gave me a quote for other work that was not requested but something we would have contemplated. Regardless never go the quote so went with someone who was way less expensive. Would love to put numbers in here to show the difference but since I never got the quote emailed to me I cannot tell you how much they would charge you. If you want to go through all the work for a quote and never get the quote, then this is your team.
