From food truck to brick-and-mortar, Monkey's Hẻm is a welcome addition to South OKC's Vietnamese food scene. I remember when they used to park on the OU campus, so it's great to see them now have a permanent home. "Hẻm," meaning "alley" in Vietnamese, is fitting for a concept rooted in Vietnamese street food.
They had a lunch special on the menu--a mini bánh mì paired with pho--which is a great value. The pho delivered a beefy, savory broth, generous noodles, and a nice selection of meats. The grilled pork bánh mì was equally satisfying, served on their signature bread. We also enjoyed the crisp egg rolls and fresh sugarcane juice, especially refreshing in the Oklahoma heat.
The space completes the experience with colorful street-style details, tiny plastic tables and chairs, straw hats, and playful Vietnamese touches. Friendly service, good food, and a concept with plenty of character. read more
