This store is so cute!!! I loved how there were so many different things to look at, especially the blind boxes and cute figures. The store is pretty small, but it makes it feel packed with stuff to discover. It's definitely the kind of place where you can go in just to look around and still end up wanting to buy something. I also think it's a fun place to visit while walking around Little Tokyo, especially if you like Japanese characters and cute collectibles.

I love love LOVEEE Monkey Pants!! I come here all the time for Monchichis, Smiskis, and Sonny Angels! They have the best prices in the Village, and people complaining about prices clearly haven't looked around enough lol. I also love coming when Kat is working because she lets me shake the Sonnys and she's sooo good at guessing them! Their trade system is also amazing and makes me feel better knowing I'm not getting fakes. PLEASE visit if you're ever in the area!!

My wife and I have been patrons of this store for over a decade, and now that we have daughters we bring them here to share our love of authentic Japanese culture and collectibles! We travel to Little Tokyo from SD multiple times a year and Monkey Pants is a must stop. Friendly and accommodating staff (and accommodating with kids which is a huge deal!) and great selection! Still have all my stickers and collectibles to this day!

Came here for a little date with my boyfriend and was having a really rough day and my experience here didn't help it at all sadly... I was buying myself some calico critters because I really wanted them and needed to cheer myself up and the blonde girl with the makeup (I'm sure it's the one everyone seems to be complaining about lol) was like passive aggressively nice AT FIRST and then she slammed my critters on the counter and said "OKAYBYETHANKYOU" all in one sentence and didn't even look at me at all the WHOLE transaction. We weren't walking away though because my boyfriend was buying something as well and again same exact interaction and it actually really hurt my feelings I had to cry LOL like I was so happy to be getting my first critters and she made it feel so shitty when we were so nice to her because we also work in the service industry so I get it I know sometimes you aren't having a good day but it just isn't fair I had to experience bad behavior when I didn't do anything wrong towards her :( I wish she didn't add to my already awful day and experience of FINALLY getting my critters. I haven't even opened them like the vibes are so bad I don't even want them anymore. The other guy working the shift who was standing at the door with glasses was nice so shoutout to him fr he's the only reason I'm giving a 2 star rating! I hope the owner realizes sometimes it's better to cut ties then try to fix and work on bad customer service!! There are FAR better candidates in this world to have at your cute little shop because she is doing any favors if anything she is pushing away guests!! read more

I've come here for years and I've always been treated kindly, never had issues, my daughter loves it here as well it's been her go to shop since she was barely walking. The reason for this review is that I introduced my boyfriend to this store and he says he has not received the same treatment as I when he has gone alone. He has stated that the woman who seems to be the owner, not the other employees, has been unkind and a bit passive aggressive with him. I am not sure why, he's not a super talkative joyful kind of dude but he's always polite even if serious. It saddens me that he has been made to feel uncomfortable here as he also likes their items, I've also stopped coming in due to this. Hopefully the owner can be a bit friendlier to ALL PEOPLE not just specific ones. read more

i hate to do this but I come to monkey pants often and have always had a good experience... however I came yesterday around 7pm and asked the cashier about the kewpies in the case and he was very snarky, seemed annoyed? and would sip water while I was waiting for his response. Also towards the end of the transaction he didn't gather my things or even ask me if I wanted a bag. I work in customer service as well and I don't think that's appropriate to do to a customer even if they were having a bad day. Overall this experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I don't think i'll be returning.. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. The blonde girl with no eyebrows was incredibly rude to us as soon as we walked in. Gave us no attention and straight attitude when we had asked for simple things about their products. She was so unprofessional, and to seem to hate working. Located in the Japanese Village Plaza, i spied with my little eye an adorable and lovely baby clothes/kids boutique. The inside has some of the winsome Japanese cartoon character plush toys and enchanting little blankets with soft pastel colors. They sell the little Alpaca jumbo plushies and cuuuute little Kimono shirts for babies!!! I saw popular characters like Pusheen, Hayao Miyazaki, Sanrio, and Korean characters too. I'd been aware of this store for a while and always figured it was Korean-owned, as "eggy" sounds like the Korean word for "baby." This suspicion was confirmed when I met the owner a few years ago (I'm friends with her cousin, it turns out). I went for the first time last month, to exchange a gift from his Aunty Carol and Uncle Kevin: a soft, adorable sleeper that I wanted to get in a bigger size (they got him a really nice wooden dancing alligator toy too, also from Eggy). The sales lady was very helpful. She found the order and looked for the sleeper, but unfortunately, it didn't come in the size I needed. I returned the sleeper for store credit, which I immediately spent--and then some--and then some more--on a whole fall wardrobe for my son. The store was just so attractive, and so full of stylish, high quality clothes, I went full Pretty Woman on the baby boy racks. I pulled item after item (including a complete three-piece outfit as modeled by one of the little mannequins) and the sales lady brought me everything they had in my kid's size. At one point, I made her look at pictures of him and she--a woman who sells expensive children's clothes to L.A. parents!--said, "You're obsessed." I ended up buying a bunch of clothes, which I realized as I was leaving are likely to go on sale by the time my son is big/cold enough to wear them in a couple of months. My mother would be ashamed of me, but I couldn't resist, and I'll be back to Eggy to get more nice clothes for my beautiful boy.

We stopped in at the Monkey Pants store in Little Tokyo last week. It's a great shop, very kid friendly - cute grafitti chickens painted on the walls and an excellent selection of baby clothes and kid clothes. I bought several outfits for friend's new babies. It was hard to choose because everything was so cute and unique - not what you see at other stores. So, if you want to buy baby gifts this is the place.The staff was helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable about their stock since they design a lot of the monkey pants and they are made in L.A. So, shop there! You are helping the economy and spending your money with a store owner that is helping to bring manufacturing back to the USA. It's a win win. Plus you will love what you buy. I absolutely love Monkey Pants! I mean, who doesn't love the adorable and catchy name of this children's boutique including the adorable merchandise? I freaking love the llama plush dolls in the store! If they were to come life-size, I'd def buy one and ride that llama like a horse all over my house. But until then, my friend's children can do that and I can only live vicariously through them. Anyhow, kid's stylish harlem pants with a flare? This business is located right next to the escalator on the second floor of the Galleria. So, it's very easy to find. Once inside, the aisles are all very well organized, with all of the various things that they sell, presented in a very orderly manner. Thus, when you walk in the store you'll be able to easily find what you're looking for and/or what you want. Plus, the prices here all very reasonable. I can't say much for the cost, a bit pricey for me, but I'm used to dirt cheap Japanese Mercari Visual Kei and J-rock prices. Staff welcomed us in when we were there and had smiles on their faces, despite the heat of the summer. It gets SUPER hot in here and they have some fans, but if they even have AC, it's very, very weak.

this store is DANGEROUS for fans of anime. haven't been to a con in a minute, but you're itching…read morefor that artist alley high? this is the place to come to. however, if you're a sucker like me, get ready to drop a good amount of money. it's a small shop that hosts a bunch of merchandise from small artists in a physical pop-up store front. they have such a wide selection of items, from art prints, stickers, totes, clothing, charms, and more, there's bound to be something for you. i really appreciate how the store is organized and it's easy to see who the artist is and where to find them on socials. the prices of each item ranged quiet a bit, so whether you think it's worth $12 or $20 to buy an art print is up to your discretion. the only thing that can be a little difficult is just seeing the full selection of what they may have, as many of them have different prints stacked behind each other. for example, one row of art prints had various ones of the different characters from toilet-bound hanako-kun. so if you don't want to miss something, you have to be ready to flip through them for a bit. the staff was so very friendly when we were checking out and we even laughed together about a small receipt printer mishap they had. i definitely plan to stop by again in the future!

They have a nice selection of prints, original art, toys, and books. It's a super small space, but they've made every corner count. Also, if a book or toy is sold out, I believe they sometimes have waitlists or at least an email list for when something comes back in stock. Being small, they do get kind of crowded on the weekends, and it makes the store kind of hard to maneuver. They were doing this thing for a while where they only allowed a certain number of people to look around at a time, then blocked the door with a table and in order to come in, you had to wait for someone who was already inside to leave. That kind of sucked, because you were basically just waiting for someone to feel like leaving and it usually took forever, leading to a long line outside. But it seems like they ditched that. We went recently and we were able to go in with others and there was no sign or table blocking the door. No lot parking; it's on sawtelle so it's just metered street parking. There are tons of good restaurants and coffee less than 20 feet in any direction, very good location.

[Parking]: Parking is always difficult to find in Sawtelle. Visitors can circle around the neighborhood for street parking (I got lucky and found a spot on Beloit Ave just a block away) or try validated parking at Marshalls or Nijiya Market Sawtelle Store. [What to see here]: The shop offers fun housewares, gifts (e.g. Rolife 3D Puzzles), stationery items (a very small selection), T-shirts, varsity jackets, hats, art books, art prints, plushies (e.g. Miffy and Snoopy), and toy figures (e.g. Smiski blind boxes). What really stood out to me were pins, some of the unique jackets, and the Japantown/Sawtelle mugs. Please note that the store limits entry to 8 guests at a time. Love that they have the gacha machine with little vinyl toys and trinkets made by local and small artists. It's always fun to stop by if you're in the pit of the Little Tokyo Japanese Village Plaza. The reason why I'm giving it a 3 out of 5 is because of a bad experience today with the door person. We came in today, July 19th around the afternoon, about 3-4 PM. I understand their bag policy, it sucks but what can you do. We were very compliant with the doorman, but he seemed to have an attitude. Listen man, I get that it's hot and you may be having a day, but that doesn't mean you get to be rude. We went in, and immediately he needed to take our bags. We complied cause it's policy, and I politely told him "oh I have a small bag!" As in to tell him we have another bag to give him. He took it the wrong way and said "trust me I don't want to take it more than you do" under his breath. Buddy, I can hear you. I didn't even say it in a rude way, I'm just informing you that there was another bag. Whatever, we handed all our bags over, one of which was a bag carrying some merchandise (mainly some posters we purchased from another event we came from) mind you, there was 4 posters from a limited time event in there, worth $65. He asked "what's in the bag" all judgmental, like buddy, I get you need to know so you know where to place it on the shelf, but there is such a thing as asking in a nicer way like "is there anything delicate in here" or such. I told him it was some posters I had got. So. TELL ME WHY THIS GUY PUT THE BAG WITH THE POSTERS LAYING FLAT DOWN FIRST AND THEN PROCEEDED TO PUT OUR HEAVY BACKPACK AND OUR SMALLER BAG ON TOP OF IT. BUDDY. YOU ARE USING A METAL RACK SHELF, AND PUTTING HEAVY ITEMS ON TOP OF PAPER. SOME OF IT WAS EVEN ON THE EDGE SO YOU'RE ACTIVELY CREASING AND BENDING MY BELONGINGS. Anyone should know if you have anything fragile like posters, you would put it on top of the other bags so they do not get folded or creased or get and indents. I quickly told him if he can put the bag with the posters on top because I don't want them to get creased or bent. He doesn't say anything and just quickly does it, but he made a face. Buddy, if you don't like your job or can't do it well enough to know common sense like not putting delicates under heavy items, quit and go find something else, and leave your attitude at the OUTSIDE the door. I went home after this, and saw that all of four of my posters were creased in the same spot, coincidentally the same spot that was bent over the edge of the shelf. I don't care if they're posters and they can be replaced, not everyone has the luxury to replace broke items, especially not limited ones, I spent my hard earned money on it for it to be permanently ruined by some boy who doesn't care about other people's belongings despite being entrusted to handle them. Anyways, come for the merch! But maybe leave your valuables someplace where you know they'll be safe from damage.
