Very Disappointing Experience - Will Not Be Returning…read more This was my first visit to this office after switching dentists. I had to wait approximately one month for an appointment. The purpose of my visit was to have my tooth examined/scanned and to have a filling replaced. I had previously received fillings from my former dentist and had no issues with that treatment. Since I recently moved to Suffolk County, I decided to switch to this dentist. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The doctor came in and, within approximately two minutes, told me in a very rude and dismissive manner that she absolutely could not perform a filling on the tooth. She stated that the tooth was not a good candidate for a root canal and recommended having the tooth extracted. She also stated that even after the extraction, the adjacent tooth could potentially become loose and might also need to be extracted. When we explained that the tooth had previously been filled by my former dentist and that the filling had recently come out, the doctor responded, in a very loud and disrespectful tone, essentially saying, "Then go to that dentist. I'm not doing it." I understand that a dentist may determine that a filling or other treatment is not appropriate. However, the way this information was communicated was extremely unprofessional and unnecessarily rude. Patients should be treated with respect and spoken to in a calm and professional manner, even when the recommended treatment is extraction rather than a filling. Initially, we were also told that there were no treatment options and that there was nothing she could do. Only after we specifically requested medication for the infection and pain did she prescribe antibiotics and ibuprofen. I will not be returning to this office and will be looking for another dentist. I hope the doctor takes this feedback seriously and improves the way she communicates with patients in the future.

When I needed a front filling, we spent time discussing the perfect shade and shape to ensure I was completely satisfied. Dr. Planken changed my whole experience of dentistry. I did my research online when searching for a new dentist. The reviews on my insurance and on her website had nothing but good things to say about Dr. Planken. And I am here to add the same. I called to schedule an appointment with Dr. Planken as a new patient and there was no problem scheduling me in. The secretary ran my insurance prior to my appointment to make sure I was covered. She also has new patient forms that you can fill out prior to your appointment so it goes smoother. Dr. Planken took me right in and asked about my prior dental history and other screening questions. It was a surprise to me that she also did the cleaning (which is usually done by a dental hygienist). I questioned this and Dr. Planken stated she does everything here. I found that it was much more personable and a more pleasant experience. Most of the time at the dentist, the hygienist does the cleanings and the dentist just comes in to poke around to see if there's any cavities at that's it. This was not the case. Dr. Planken conducted the cleaning, read the x-rays and did the whole exam. Like I said, I found the experience much more personable and very professional. I highly recommend Dr. Planken after my experience. She answered all my questions to the best of her knowledge and I am actually not dreading returning back to her office in 6 months. My trip was not close too. I drove from New Hyde Park to Wantagh for my appointment and there are plenty of dentists in and around my town. But I believe in the quality of good healthcare and Dr. Planken will definitely be my go to dentist from now on. Thank you Dr. Planken for changing my experience of dentistry for the better!
