In town for a sporting event, and decided to check out this Monical's location. It was packed since today is Father's Day. We were seated immediately by the assistant manager, who was very friendly. Our waitress wasn't the friendliest, but the service was good so we overlooked her attitude and chalked it up to a busy day. We started with garlic cheese bread with marinara sauce, and hot wings. The hot wings tasted just like Tyson, but they were still large in size, and tasted good with the ranch cups they serve with it. The garlic cheese bread and marinara were very good. I forgot to take a pic of the full pizza before we all dug in, but we had a 14 inch thin crust delight. The delight comes with pepperoni, sausage, onion, green bell pepper, and mushroom. It's our fav! The thin crust is very crispy and reminds me of a cracker crust. So good! Even though they were busy with a dining room full of large groups, and a parking lot that didn't have one parking spot left, the food came out quickly and was very good. Had lunch here after doing the Marigold Festival. We got seated right away, but the table behind us was a little rowdy/loud so we couldn't really hold a conversation. Our waitress came and took our orders, two individual pleasers. She must have gotten my order wrong, because the pizza she brought me was COVERED in black olives...which I didn't order, so we had to send it back and they made me a new pizza. When it came time to pay, there was no one at the register to ring us up. When someone finally appeared, they disappeared off to a corner to get the change and left us standing there for over 10 minutes (2-3 people even stopped to check on us). December 26, 2024, yes the day after Christmas, Monical's came through for my family. We had noon reservations for 15 at Rosati's in North Pekin and get there to find they didn't even realize they booked us and couldn't have cared less. They told us it would be at least 45 minutes before they would even take our order. Most of us our group came in from out of town and were ready to sit down and enjoy our time together not deal with a failure. Called Monical's and asked if they could accommodate our group with 15 minutes notice. Absolutely, no problem! Excellent, friendly service and great food! In a group our size someone typically ends up dissatisfied with their experience and I'm happy to say that was not the case here. I live out of state now, but Monical's is almost always my first stop when I come to visit! The food is definitely best when you dine in. It's one of the few places that I always get breadsticks from. They're not garlicky like most places but they're so good! As for pizza, we always get a thin crust pepperoni, you can never go wrong with that! My only complaint at this location is with the service. We sat at our table for 15 minutes before anyone came over and waited on us. Meanwhile there were several people bussing tables that could have at least offered to get us drinks. This isn't the first time I've had service issues at the pekin location. It was by no means the waitress' fault, they just needed better management of the employees. When we see employees standing around doing nothing, yet our waitress was essentially handling the entire restaurant, there's definitely a logistics issue. read more

The Monical's in Pekin always has the nicest people answering phone and friendly customer service. It's very nostalgic for me every time I visit Peoria/Pekin to see family. It's hard to find thin crispy crust without being fully loaded down with too much cheese in the Midwest. That's why Monical's Pizza will always be one of my favorites. I absolutely recommend this restaurant for its food service and atmosphere. I am going to start my review by saying I have never been a fan of Monical's Pizza. I do not get why so many people in Central Illinois love it. With that said, the 3-stars is almost like a 5-star in places where I really enjoy the food. You may ask yourself, why on Earth would you go to place that you are not a fan of? Unfortunately, other people in my life enjoy the food. I wanted to treat them out to something they enjoy. We had 5 people so we got to sit in the round corner table. It's my favorite place to be seated. My mom thought she would save me some money by grabbing a coupon. I went to my car to grab my phone only to come back and the coupons my mom brought were expired. Change of plans. The server was nice enough to go grab updated coupons so we could use them. Friendly and helping me save money. A winning combination if you ask me. I ordered us breadsticks and an extra large pizza. Maybe it's because I have avoided eating Monical's but the food was not really that bad. I might almost say I enjoyed it....ok, maybe I did enjoy it. It burns me to admit it. I'm going to say that this location makes it better than the rest of them. When I first went to Monical's five years ago I was not impressed. Order at the counter and have your food delivered to your table service. Lady checks on you very seldomly and I usually have to go back up to ask for a refill. So do I tip or not? Is she waitressing or not... a little confusing. The food is "okay"... nothing special. The lasagna is delicious. The salads are just some lettuce with slivers of carrots in it with a bit of cheese on top. The tomatoes are either mushy or under-ripe and hard. I've had the pizza, it's good for thin crust. Actually the sauce and cheese layers are both thin too. My biggest complaint is the cleanliness... Dust. The table seasonings are gross looking and don't look clean (the silver top of the Parmesan and chili flakes). I actually took a picture of one of their light fixtures with TONS OF BUGS in it! There was even a dead worm! I put it on their facebook page weeks ago and never got a response - I have went back and the bugs were still there. Why did I go back if it is dirty? Because I wanted to see if they cleaned it. I hope they get their act together soon, they are cheap and quick for a 1-hr lunch break. But the bugs casting shadows overhead is disgusting. read more

I'm far more inclined to write a good review if I'm happy with a product or service, but Monical's is so bad I feel upset about it. To be fair, I rated two stars because let's face it pizza in general is pretty awesome. That said, I could have been more happy with a frozen pizza at home. Monical's Pizza is over priced BS that will leave you feeling better off being robbed at gunpoint on the street. My boyfriend first tried Monical's in Wisconsin. He travels for work and seen there was one a mile from where he was staying so when I came to visit him of course we had to try it. Absolutely delicious. If you like thin crust pizza, it's exactly what you're looking for. Their cheese is a great flavor, as well as their sauce, and the employees are very nice! Just ate here for the first time.Before looking at the menu the waitress asked us for our drink selections. We told her and proceeded to browse the menu. Saw on the menu you can get a Family Meal upgrade with select pizza sizes for an additional $7 that includes a pitcher of soft drink and a family size salad. Ordered our pizza and told her we wanted to do the Family Meal. Finished eating our subpar pizza and salad that was mostly iceberg lettuce. Received our bill and noticed she charged us for our soft drinks individually. When pointed out that mistake she said it was too bad because we ordered drinks individually before saying we wanted the meal deal. They would not credit us back for our individual soft drinks. This particular Monical's has been around since I was a kid growing up in Pekin (30+ years ago). My parents would order take out every Friday and it has a special place in my heart. With that bias in mind... it really is a uniquely special pizza. The restaurant itself is relatively nondescript on a busy street across from a random golf course (down the hill from the high school and next to the liquor store my best friend worked at growing up :)), but the pizza is truly unique and memorable,. Their thin crust pizza (the one I grew up with) is my favorite, but the "pan" (not a Chicago style pie but a respectable thick crust) brings all of the taste along. There's something about the corn meal crust and the sauce that really makes it special. My mother used to swear by the salads, but I always get the bread sticks. Basically soft pretzels encrusted with coarse salt with nacho cheese for dipping. Can't say it's goo for you, but damn. My mother used to jokingly note every Monical's at which she had eaten... but this is the one the put "Happy Birthday Phyllis" on their sign every September 18th. My family and I go back (more than once :)) every time we're back. P.S.: Oh, and they're excellent with kids. Not only was our waitress rather stand-offish since we asked her if she could take our order after waiting 15 minutes, she would roll her eyes and didn't smile once. We ordered onion in our pizza and it was clear that it was forgotten as the onion was just sprinkled on top. We usually were left with no drinks as she was not coming by to see if we needed more.
