He sent a written "estimate" for the work, but it did not include some of the things he'd talked about while walking around the house such as replacing all of our "boots" as part of replacing our ducts, or hanging the ducts from the roof of the crawl space. Also, I wanted them to call their document a bid or quote, not an estimate. I wrote and called a couple of times trying to get them to change their document. They made one change, to include removal and disposal of the old ducts, but then they ghosted us. I gotta say, this is the first time I've been ghosted.

Anyhow now that they finished with the remodeling they seem to be enlightened every time I visit them, they "brag" about the great job the contractor did, and honestly after seeing the "makeover" I'm not surprised. I don't know much about construction but I can tell the contractor did a great job. I am a man of details and so the one thing that I did notice about the craftsmanship is that everything was leveled and perfectly aligned, the whole house looks absolutely fantastic and my parents are thrilled with their "new" home. If my parents are happy then I'm happy, and obviously it's because My Design Guide that did a great job and helped my parents with the remodeling

I hired Victor and Elliot to do a major rebuild of a duplex that I just bought in January 1, 2014…read more At first they seemed very nice and professional, but everything went downhill from there. They came up with a bid of $60,000, but because they didn't check with the city about where the addition could be built, I had to pay them an additional $22,500 to tear down the existing garage and move it to another part of the property. Then they did that wrong because they assumed that the city wouldn't enforce a utility easement and then we had to pay another $5,000 (they accepted half responsibility), to change it again. And the work was done very slowly and was much below the standard of what a contractor should build. Elliot was the project manager and it didn't seem that he knew anything about construction or how to oversee the project. We complained to Victor, who is the license holder, but he wasn't helpful at all. They hired people off the street. Thank goodness they hired one man, Kevin, a previously CA licensed contractor (no license now, but he is going to renew it), who saved the day and completed and got permit ok for much of the work that did not pass with Solomon Brothers. By the way, they have several business names, including Investment Property Services, Inc. I wonder why? Everything was done wrong, sometimes not to code, and we had so many problems. Most everything had to be redone. The plumber installed the wrong piping and one time they washed all the cement down the kitchen sink and the concrete hardened in the PIPES. We had to redo all the pipes. They told us they did copper plumbing for both units but we found out they only did copper for one unit, and not the other. That is just not fair. We were overcharged for everything. Ultimately, we had to hire someone else to finish and we had to pay about $100,000 to get this done. And there are still problems. They did give us back some money, but we had to pay out tens of thousands of dollars in additional funds to get finished what they promised done. We hired an attorney to try to get more money but they fought us on everything. Just the most horrendous experience me and my husband had to go through. This was supposed to be our dream, retirement home. We may just want to sell and get out of here, such bad memories. We do not recommend to anyone to hire this company. Beware of their tactics. They come off very nice and sincere and make grand promises. They do not deliver. I read some of the reviews here and I just can't believe this is the same company. What a nightmare we experienced and are still experiencing. Watch out.

So the construction is finally, finally done. 10 long months. Do I like the final result? No, not…read morereally. I see so many "things" that need improvements, touch ups etc. I just close my eyes and try not to let that bother me. Just glad that its over. Elliot and Victor are great people, its just subcontractors they hire to do the work that don't deliver. Which should be their responsibility to hire quality workmen but they sturuggle to find the right people at the right time, especially busy summer months. Bottom line, think twice before you start, it will be stressful no matter who you hire, bigger vs. Manageable stress will be the only difference. If you can oversee the whole process and supervise the work everyday, give them a try.

Let me just say that for 15 years, I've been the highest-rated representative in my company and in…read moreseveral other companies I've worked at previously, I've always been recognized for superlative customer service. So to say that I'm high-maintenance in my expectations from those who provide me service would be accurate. I've been working on remodeling my condo for the last 9 months. It took 9 months plus because I'm good at reading people and the construction world is one you have to enter with serious caution. I have very particular preferences that some might consider odd (ex: radiant bathroom flooring in sunny Los Angeles, seriously?!?...paid $400 extra for delivery so I can get a specific flooring that was discontinued and no longer available locally, etc.). I'm just one of those people who knows what she wants and isn't comfortable compromising. One of the things I pay attention to is responsiveness. The second is trustworthiness. It's hard to explain my people reading skill (it's sort of a pre-requisite and a talent when you've been in sales for almost 30 years). I can only give you an analogy so you'll understand. When you go on a first date, pay as much attention to how your date treat the staff (servers, busboys, etc.) as you do on how he/she treats you. That's when you see the true character of a person vs. what they want to present you. I do the same thing with these contractors. I ask them questions and based on their answers and what they recommends, I have a better sense of their motivations. Are they recommending things because it's beneficial to the client or are they recommending things because it's more beneficial to them. Being a solo female and a novice, a lot of these contractors think they can pull the wool over your eyes (and I must say, I've learned a lot since 9 months ago). Just because I'm new to something, it doesn't mean I'm incapable of doing my own research however. That being said, I'm posting this recommendation for Barry because he passed the test on both...responsiveness and trustworthiness. I elected to use another contractor because Mereekh Construction does not have extensive experience with radiant flooring installation, but I would definitely consider Barry down the road for other possible projects. He seems like an honest business man who takes pride in the work he provides to his clients and that goes a long way in my world.

Neri went above and beyond by sending detailed videos from atop the roof (no way was I climbing up there myself!). He clearly explained all the problem areas and exactly what needed to be done. He provided a fast, transparent quote and was able to order materials and start the job within just two weeks. Throughout the entire process, Neri's communication was outstanding--he kept me fully informed every step of the way, including when unexpected issues arose. The damage turned out to be worse than initially thought, requiring replacement of significantly more rotten plywood and fascia boards. Once again, he sent videos detailing the problems and the additional costs involved, so there were no surprises. I especially appreciated that Neri was right up there on the roof working alongside his crew. They put in long, hard days and got the job done efficiently and with great care. One fantastic suggestion from Neri was to replace my ancient, unsightly turbine vents with modern O'Hagin low-profile, ember-resistant vents. Living in a fire-prone area, this upgrade adds real peace of mind and protection--plus, they look sleek and modern. The finished roof exceeded my expectations in every way. I've already received so many compliments from neighbors! Thank you, Neri, for your expertise, honesty, and hard work! Signed, a very happy and satisfied customer.
