Albeit a little difficult to locate tucked behind a strip in a business park disguising salon suites (I had to use Waze, finally), I found Mona's on my lunch break this Friday afternoon for a quick thread of my brows. I'd not found a go-to brow joint since moving to St. Charles. Let me say, she's a one and done for me! I only went in to get my brows cleaned up and on point, but after asking if I used gel or powder to fill them in (yes), she asked if I'd like her to dye them with henna. Insert ominous music here. Now I've been threaded a million times since Sunday since my Pakistani friend enlightened me to the world beyond waxing in 2000. But I've never been suggested henna. I made Mona promise it wouldn't be too dark and she did. Do not fear, henna virgins, it DOES look dark at first (I should have done this on a weekend when I didn't have to go back to work, ha ha) but once you leave it on the recommended 24 hours and take a shower...magic! I CANNOT believe I haven't done this before. I'm a believer! Hope it really lasts the two weeks she predicted it will or I'll be seeing Mona frequently. Not bad though at a $13 price tag. I have had my eyebrows threaded here twice now. First off, the building is a little difficult to find. So, if it's your first time visiting, I would give yourself extra time to find the door! Despite having an appointment, I've had to wait in the waiting area both times. However, it usually hasn't been that long of a wait. I have been happy with my eyebrows after each visit, but the service is pretty pricey. I believe it was $11 or $12. Previously, I used to pay about $8-10 for eyebrow threading. I will continue to go here unless I find somewhere closer to my home in Geneva! read more

I don't think I've had one time coming here that scheduling wasn't an issue. I have always scheduled earlier in the morning and on several occasions, I received a text that she was running late, so I have to sit there past my appointment time. Excuses as to why she was running late always changed. Today, I made an appointment for 11:15am and show up a couple minutes early to see the studio closed and lights off so I call and she said they decided to close today, even though I was able to schedule an appt online. She said she texted me, however, when I asked what number she contacted it was the wrong number so I never got a notification. I am so sick of wasting time coming here - I'm done. This was my worst eyebrow experience. I have either waxed or threaded my eyebrows for the last 20 years in different places with pretty good results. I have simple requests to shape lightly and to not thin out the brows too much. I also asked to either leave the middle space the same on each side, or make it more even, if possible. She made the middle more uneven than it was, and the space between my eye and eyebrow is now a gigantic space, wirh skinny eyebrows. It looks really scary and I don't know if my eyebrows will grow back at this point. My most disappointing salon experience in my life. This woman DID NOT LISTEN TO MY SIMPLE REQUESTS. read more

Today was my 5th visit for eyebrow threading.. I told Mona that I DO NOT WANT AN ARCH before she started. But she still did it. I am not pleased. I know, FOR HER, she like the way it looks now but she should consider to listen to her clients. I want to feel pretty and doing her way did not make me feel pretty at all! I know my eyebrows look decent but THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANTED. I tried to speak up but she kept on telling me "it will be too short"!! I hope she reads this comment and know that I am not happy to look at the mirror. I was very disappointed in the service. Though she was nice, there were several issues that had me end up giving 2 stars. I called to schedule a blowout, when I arrived I was asked if I needed my hair washed. My hair was dry and unwashed so I thought this was an odd question for a blowout. After washing my hair she dried it straight with no round brushing my hair to add volume (which I had asked for) or curls. (Which I also asked for) As she's drying my hair she never parted my hair where it should be. When I mentioned it, I ended up having to part my hair myself. Since she dried my bangs last, my bangs did not style or lay nicely (I will now need to redo them myself). She added curls with a curling iron afterwards. Then I was getting pushed out the door because of her next appointment. Overall, the worst part was the time it took (1.5 hrs) paired with the excessive charge ($80). I have gotten plenty of blowouts and they are usually $30-$40. Even if I was charged extra for curls, my prom hair cost me $60. Since I was being pushed out the door for the next appointment I have no clue what cost $80. I have been to salons that charge $75 for cut and highlights. I really don't recommend and will not be going back myself. read more

I've only come for eyebrow threading ($10) but she offers haircuts, make up applications and a few more services. Her threading skills are spot on! She so meticulous and thorough! It had been about a month because when someone messes my eyebrows up, I let them grow back in so they can be done right.
