Dealing with the flight instructors at Monarch Air is sooo frustrating!!!!!! I can't say how many times my son had his morning(s) planned out for his scheduled flight(s) and the night before he receives a message about his flight(s)being cancelled. I got my pilot's license and instrument rating through Monarch over the span of about 18 months. About one year later, I got my multi-commercial rating in their Beechcraft Duchess in just 10 weeks. I had a wonderful experience there. Monarch is a very happy place, and everyone working is very friendly and professional. The Planes; Very new planes, very well maintained. They do have some older planes but they cost much less to rent than the newer ones. The Facility; Great facility, new equipment, air conditioned. Pilots; I received pilot training there and it was a mixed bag. The pilot instructor had zero patience and was a very angry little man. My advice to you is, don't feel embarrassed. If the instructor isn't working out for you, request another instructor. Don't do like I did and go through your entire budget without being able to get the pilot's license. Charters; They do charters. If you've never flown chartered, you're missing out. You drive almost right up to the plane as the parking lot is very near the planes. You get on, and you fly. There are no TSA agents viewing you nekkid on X-ray scanners, there are no TSA idiots groping you, and no Stormtroopers are gonna search through your bags. No long lines, just simply the fun of flying somewhere. Yay! The Negative; They are 30.06 posted for their building. If you are carrying, be sure to pay in advance on the phone with your credit card so you don't have to enter the building. Text your pilot and have him/her meet you outside by the plane for the pre-flight check. Just make sure that your destination is legal for you to carry, too, and carry away! I would rather pay my money to a facility that is not 30.06 posted, but, hey, nothing is perfect. read more

I had my discovery flight with Kelly yesterday and it was absolutely amazing! I got there at four and left at six and it was only $150. She was great and I learned so much in those two hours. We flew a C-172 and I borrowed a pair of David Clarks because I don't have my own headset yet. We went through a weather briefing and she helped me understand what everything they talked about was and why we needed it. Then we did our preflight and she made me check a bunch of things myself to get me used to doing it. The whole experience revolved around learning and having fun. Once in the air we flew over the lakes and she let me take controls. Even though I have never flown before I felt confident and safe because I knew she was there to help me. She had great answers to all of the questions I had and always checked in with me before doing anything. You can tell she really knows what she's doing and loves doing it. Once back on the ground she signed off my first hour in my logbook! I highly recommend this school and specifically Kelly to anyone looking to learn to fly. I rented a plane from Monarch Air in July and it was great. The employees helped get everything set up and taken care of. All of the planes are kept in pristine condition, and the maintenance department takes great interest on anyone even just a renter to make sure that we are satisfied. I will use this from now on as my primary place of renting aircraft. As far as the previous review goes, as someone who uses groupons from time to time, a Google Offer is the same. The company can't offer you that same price as it defeats the point of the Google Offer. So I can understand them not being able to give you that at that price. You can't go into a restaurant and say I'd like 50% off my bill because I saw a Groupon, so it's the same principle. Discovery Flight wise, perhaps the instructor completed the preflight inspection before you arrived. I don't know, but it would be my logical guess. For anyone else, I have had no bad experiences with Monarch. read more
