I'm driving through Jackson NJ and I noticed this small Italian Restaurant so I decided to give the food a try. My waiter Luke went out of his way to make my dining experience memorable. The Caesar salad tasted perfect. The garlic pizza was great and complimented the veal parmesan and I finished up with a perfectly blended cappuccino. The pepperoni was extra crisp for some reason. The result was a soft, nit delicious pizza experience. I don't know if the crust was purchased that way. I give the gluten free pizza with multiple toppings a 2. Ut was pizza, and hot. The 2 poibts are for effort nit the food. Miving on to the antipasto. It was good. The wheels of rolled meats and cheeses were very good. Roasted red peppers, red onions, lovely tiny tomatoes, a couple of kalamata olives, marinated artichoke hearts on top of crisp, cold iceberg lettuce. The presentation was very pretty.A red wine and oil dressing was included on the side with a chunk of regular italian bread. I couldn't eat it. The bread is not gluten free. Honestly, this place is so much better than we anticipated it would be, which was horrible, so landing on average was a pleasant surprise. We only ended up at Mona Lisa Pizza in Jackson, NJ because it was the halfway point between us and some friends that we were meeting. The restaurant portion is pretty generic and service does not come with a smile, but the food is OK. The split pea soup is watery and bland, so we don't recommend that, but the Fusilli Alla Mona Lisa is actually very good! It has artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, and garlic, and while it was a tad too oily, it was very tasty. They also had a meatball "special" dish that came with a side salad and some ricotta, and that was also pretty impressive with respectable meatballs and decent sides. Our friends got a pizza with chicken and BBQ sauce that we tried--it wasn't for us but we can see the appeal. Portions here are pretty generous. So, while we would never recommend this place, it seems like an OK option if you live in the area or need to be in the area. They could train their staff to be more friendly with customers though. Worst Customer Service I've Ever Experienced This was absolutely unbelievable. We ordered pizza for delivery and it arrived ICE COLD and tasted like cardboard. Completely inedible. Instead of enjoying our meal, we ended up dealing with the most disrespectful behavior I have ever experienced from a business. We called calmly to ask if there had been a change in ownership and requested to speak to a manager. The person who answered claimed he was the manager. Rather than apologizing or offering any solution, he rudely told us that if we didn't like their pizza, we should never order from them again -- then HUNG UP on us. When we tried calling back, they BLOCKED our number. Just like that. No accountability. No refund. No professionalism. We threw away $28.00 and were treated like we didn't matter at all. This place clearly does not care about its customers or the quality of its food. Save your money, save your time, and order literally anywhere else. Ordered a simple takeout sandwich and arrived exactly when told to pickup. After thirty minutes of waiting, I noticed the total disorganization of how the place is run. Hubby and I came here for dinner last night. It was still early for dine in rush, but the take out and delivery orders are crazy busy all the time. We ordered a large Garbage Pizza without peppers, side of sauce and a large antipasto salad, chopped, I prefer chopped. I really enjoy the pie crust here, it's crispy, light and not bland, it holds up to the toppings. I eat at least 6 or more times a month from Mona Lisa, because they do quite a delivery and catering business where I work. Been going to this loc for 15+ years. Been through several owners. Yesterday I ordered a fried eggplant sub on the menu. Opened it when I was home. The menu states eggplant, roasted peppers , mozzarella cheese. Sandwich had 1 strip of eggplant, and it looked frozen not fresh, no mozzarella, no roasted peppers. Spent a long day at Six Flags & wanted to enjoy an outdoor meal. Mona Lisa was recommended by a local, more specifically their penne pasta. I originally was going to get that, but I changed my mind and got shrimp scampi. So delicious. Service was excellent. The table bread was good as well. Great pizza. Love their garlic knots and large Caesar salad fit for two. They give you free heated bread with olive oil for free. Great friendly waiter service. Let's start off with the waitress did a great job and she gets 5 stars! The food prep gets -5 stars. Out of a family party of 10, I was the only one that did not eat even though I was hungry for dinner. I had ordered a Stromboli, an expected basic dinner in an Italian pizza restaurant but what I had received (and only after an hour and after everyone else had been served their meal 15 minutes before) was a hard, cold, definitely not fresh poorly made bread something with cold solid cheese and some kind of meat that appears to have been placed in the oven for 3 minutes after it had been sitting out for hours meal. I had turned it away and by this point everyone else was done and ready for the check. I had asked for a specialty slice and opted for a meat lover slice, again it was reheated and has been out for hours. It was mushy and required a spoon to eat. Good thing I had a leftover sub in the fridge from Wawa and was way more satisfying. I was too heated to address this with ANYONE in charge without getting a charge! Trash, never again. read more

Went here for dinner again last night for probably the 5th time. This restaurant is so much more than just a local pizzeria. Firstly, the pizza and subs are amazing with so many different types, but the dinners are delicious and high quality as well. I try a new meal every time I visit, while my husband pretty much gets the same thing, chicken scarpariello over penne (it's amazing). Last night I had the small portion (still huge) of orecchiette with sausage a broccoli rabe. It was good, but not how I've had it prepared in the past with sliced sausage and larger pieces of broccoli. In this version the sausage was crumbled and broccoli was chopped too small. It was tasty but could've been better. We also had the house salad and a huge stuffed artichoke. It's also BYOB! This has been my go-to spot for the last couple of years, but has come to an end. Under new ownership since earlier this year, the quality has gone down hill. The pizzas have gotten thinner, (in an effort to save money is my guess) but not in a good way. The previous thickness was perfect. But the crust also lacks flavor, now. I love crust, but this one tastes like flour. Also, we always get garlic knots. They are now smaller (again, to save money?), hard as rocks, and no longer covered with the excellent garlic, parm and parsley they used to use. I haven't tried any of the other food, mainly because I don't want to waste my money. I come for the pizza, and the rest of the menu was only useful to me bc the pizza was good. Not anymore. This place used to be great and was a Friday night staple in my parents household, but since the new ownership it has sadly gone downhill fast. Ordered dinner and dealt with an extremely rude staff upon pickup. Yelling and screaming in the kitchen when they went to check on my order. Our cold salad was warm and the meat in our wraps was dry and tasted stale. There was not one redeemable part of our meal. Sad to say goodbye to Mona Lisa but there are plenty of other places around with great food and friendly staff. Very disappointed last couple of times ordering from here. Last time i ordered a wrap and asked for crispy chicken. They gave me grilled chicken which was really not what i was in the mood for. I called and the girl on the phone was pretty rude and told me i should have specified because what i ordered cake with grilled chicken. I did in fact specify that i wanted crispy chicken. They told me i could come back and pick up another one. No incentives just an annoyed apology. Next time i ordered buffalo chicken wrap, did not modify anything, the menu off of their website said it came with lettuce, onions, and crispy chicken. Plus the cheese and sauce of course. I got a wrap with grilled chicken, no lettuce or onions. Also i asked for a side of blue cheese which they did not include. Very disappointing. I did not bother calling tonight, I know they are very busy and i'm definitely not driving back there in this rain. Just very disappointed for the second time. I gave it 2 stars because the food was always ready when they said it would be but it was cold and it lacked flavor, seemed like my chicken cutlet sandwich had 2 pieces of rubber in it (possibly pre-made frozen chicken), I requested mayo with oil and vinegar and it seems as if it was forgotten so they squirted mayo on top of the folded sandwich and oil and vinegar were in a container. "Mona Lisa Pizza" has a nice sound to it, but this restaurant has a lot more than just pizza. Don't get me wrong, their pizza is great and that is why we started going to MLP in the first place - to pick up a few slices when in the area or even a whole pie. But, you may want a very good Italian dinner. So, bring a bottle of red or white. Remember the color of wine depends on what you are wearing not what you are eating: red if dark colors, white if light colors (so the spills won't be as noticeable). And when you enter MLP, turn left. The dining room is a pleasant ambiance with photos on the wall of the owner's ancestors (perhaps taken 100 years ago), pendant lighting, cloth napkins, waitress service, etc. I suppose you can order pizza in the dining room, but consider their chicken or seafood dinners. They are reasonably priced, good size portions, and delicious. Also, they have specials that may cost a bit more, but are worth it. For example, last evening we had two filet of sole dinners: one was the special with shrimp toscano, rissotto, panko crumbs, almonds, and bruschetta ($24.) and the other sole was from the regular menu - oreganata with sautéed spinach ($17.75). This restaurant has sole/soul. Both dinners were scrumptious. This place is popular with loyal, repeat customers (for good reasons). It can get crowded after 6 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
