I discovered Mom's Cookies when I took a walk at the Boca Raton Farmer's Market this past Saturday. The market attracts a variety of vendors, many of them with locally produced products, all entrepreneurs and eager to please. Any of them selling food offer you a taste. After all, what better way to close a sale than to taste the food first?
What attracted me to Mom's Cookies stall, of course, were those small pieces of chocolate chip cookies on the counter, clearly and repeatedly whispering "eat me, eat me, go ahead, just eat me". And no, I was not buzzed and I know for sure I heard that subtle voice repeatedly, in my head.
I looked around to see where my husband was, as he is diligent watching what I put into my mouth, not cause he's mean, quite the contrary. He's just concerned that I maintain some semblance of discipline, watch my fats, carbs, and calories. And he's right. Since he was off to the side at another booth, but watching me carefully, I figured I would not be sneaky and called him over.
Once he approached and we engaged Mom, also known as Abbe, in conversation, the fun began. Mom is a pure delight. Not only articulate explaining the virtues of her Cookies (no GMO, no trans fats, and NO EGGS FOR LONG SHELF LIFE), she has a delightful infectious smile. She won us over before I put a bite of her cookie in my eager mouth.
And once I did, all I could do was smile and say "mmm" and with each taste of the melting soft chocolate and hard exterior cookie dough, I again exclaimed "mmmmmmm" longer and longer. Abbe just laughed and said "you're so cute" and after saying that a few times I decided I was going to buy her entire stand of cookies and ask her to phone me daily and say "you're so cute" and I would eat another Mom's Cookie. No, I'm not kidding. When was the last time you were told "you're so cute" just for being yourself and eating a chocolate chip cookie? See, I knew you'd agree.
Abbe introduced us to her son, Zach, who was quasi hipster looking in a positive way, smart as a whip, very high energy, as he walked around handing out samples and dancing and engaging everyone he met. Oh, did I say he was ah so cute, cause he was!
So run to the Boca Raton Farmer's Market on Saturday and get yourself some Mom's cookies. Packaged in different sizes. Gift them. Ship them to relatives in New York who think everything is better there than here. And if you can't get to the market, Order them on-line or get at Joseph's Italian Market in Boca Raton or Palm Beach. And say "mmmmmm" as you have an organismic chocolate chip explosion in your mouth. read more
