    Steamed momo

The Momo Man was at Moonlight Brewery last week. Hungry, I gave them a try. I ordered the steamed chicken momo and was persuaded to order some masala fries. Okay, there wasn't much arm twisting in that extra side order. The dumplings were very good. The seasoning was perfect. I could have probably done without the fries. I didn't realize the dumplings were so filling and seriously, there was a mountain of those fries. I shared them with the table and we all had the same opinion...they seemed just okay, nothing that any of us would order again. My wife ordered the chow mein and enjoyed it. A friend at the table purchased the fried momo and wished he had ordered the steamed. He enjoyed them, but had some regrets. Overall it was good. If they were an option once again, I wouldn't hesitate to pay them a visit and order some of those delicious momo's.

I came to an event where there was a momo man truck serving guests. I tried the chilli momo dumplings $17 and it was very good. The seasoning was in fact pretty spicy but nothing crazy. They seemed a little overcooked and you really only got a small amount for $17 (maybe a small thing of white rice would actually make this more filling as I was still hungry after). The service was relatively fast and I hope to try the chicken tikki masala next time.

I saw a cute meditating dumpling on the side of a food truck and found out it was Momo Man! What a cute name! I knew I had to come back to have some lunch one of these days. I tried coming back the following week at 1pm (when they open) but the truck was not there :( I waited and on the third week, I called to make sure they were there and opened before I placed an online order for pick up. I ordered 2 tikka masala entrees (chicken, rice, side salad) with 2 mango lassi and an order of the veggie momos. The momos were hot, steamy, a bit spicy but so full of spice and flavor. Oh did I mention juicy as well! Just pop em in your mouth good! The lunch entrees was a bit on the smaller side though if you love curry chicken it's a good choice! Mango lassi was not overly sweet, prices are fair. I would come back again! PS: they are located in the parking lot of Santa Rosa food & liquor on Santa Rosa ave.

Although, I must have been looking at an older image of a menu on Yelp because vegan options were limited. But they existed. I ordered a vegetable pakora and a vegetable curry. I was asked what level heat from 1 to 5. I said 4 because I like a little inferno in my mouth. And the heat level 4 was a negative 6 for me. So next time, I'll ask for level 12.4. Now, I know I'm a white girl but this girl and take some scorch. I was a little disappointed in the heat level being so low. My vegetable pakora was well done (pics). I was also the only person in the dining room on a Sunday night. Maybe the cook had to check a text and forgot about the well done pakora in the fryer. I'd consider giving them another try but would give another place a go first. I'm obsessed just with Indian food and love it so much. My favorite place is in Windsor on the green. Its just a trek for me.

This particular time I ordered the veggie momos, veggie appetizer, palak paneer, and some naan. The palak paneer is always delicious, I love that they allow you to choose your spice level! I tend to like a little bit of spicy, so I like that option. This was my first time getting the veggie appetizer assortment, loved it all. As for the momos, also delicious! They came with so many in the order too which I didn't expect. It's all decently priced out and the pick ups are always smooth! Big fan of Cumin:)

I ordered a CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA and Naan bread. The restaurant was clean and well lit. The meal came out quickly as was hot. The Tikka Masala looked like a small portion, but ended up with lots of chicken and was very tasty. The Naan bread was enormous. I mean it was a lot! I only used about a 1/4 or 1/3 to sop up the yummy sauce. Everything was good. I ended up taking the rest of the Naan bread home and enjoyed it re-heated. Nice place with a casual atmosphere.

We've been coming to Taj Cafe for a while, and yet, I have been hesitant to write a review, because…read moreour story together begins with a slightly strange experience. Lately though, they expanded their menu, and holy moly, I had to write this review. They might have changed ownership too? Not sure, but something is definitely different. Generally, the food has always been good, but yesterday, our socks were knocked off by the tastiness of our meal here. First off: They now have deep fried momo's. And holy cow. We've had their steamed momo's which are good, but these deep fried ones are everything you want them to be. Crunchy on the outside and the chicken on the inside has a curry spice to it. It was a little on the salty side, but it didn't deter too much. The curry dipping sauce is also incredible. We also had a baigan bartha (eggplant) and chicken korma - both were way excellent! I feel like they really up'd the game. The chicken korma was so flavorful, even more so than before. I hadn't gotten the baigan bartha from here in a long time, but it was pretty awesome. Likely, they up'd the butter and cream... that's usually how it goes. But I dunno... maybe not just that, there's more complexity to the food. Anyhow, it was amazing. The service here is a little toned down, but not bad. You get the feeling that the workers / owners are pretty new here to the US... which takes me to the strange experience I had early on... On our 2nd time there, we asked for glasses of water, and what they brought out was incredibly hot water in water glasses. It was boiling hot. My husband asked if they could cool bring us cold water, and they were not super happy about that request, but they tried to do it. They came back with less hot water, but still warm. It was weird. You're eating spicy indian food, you want some cold water to cool you down. Anyhow, not sure if there was something going on with their water system, or what. But they were not very communicative, which makes me think perhaps they are new to the US. No judgement - coming from an Asian American myself. Anyhow, nothing weird like that happened afterwards, (they give you cold water) but I do sometimes deter from coming here because it's slightly hole-in-the-wall-ish. The lights are dim, making it feel a bit dingy. I hate to say it but as I get older, I just am less excited about hole-in-the-wall places, even though I loved them when I was younger. Now, I just want to eat in a nice enviornment. Either way, the food is great, and also not too expensive. So, we will continue to come. How can we not get those fried momo's!!!

Their full menu is varied and robust. Dishes like clay oven specialties, several types of curries, (seafood, chicken, goat, lamb), momos, biryani, soup and even Himalayan fried noodles and kabobs. Express Lunch menu (menu notes which items are gluten free and vegan), includes lentil soup, salad, butter naan and choice of white or brown rice. We really appreciated the brown rice option. Chicken tika masala - tandoori roasted chicken simmered in a mild creamy sauce. Our sweet server (owner?) mentioned that about 95% of the people love this dish and I am definitely in that group. Wonderful flavors and generous amount of tender chicken. Tofu, kale & potato curry - ingredients all simmered with basil and coconut milk. Very flavorful and seemed healthy. My husband would definitely order again. Our server was friendly, caring and was always smiling. Two servers were handling the entire dining room plus the outdoor diners and they were seamless in their efforts. Our server had recommended the tika masala to me and she was curious what I thought of it. I would order it again tomorrow! The interior is decorated comfortably. Inside the restaurant there is a calming feeling as they were playing slow Hindu chanting music low on their sound system. The first server We began with was very young and maybe learning the menu still as he was really not that good at answering questions on the menu. As soon as we checked in on Yelp, suddenly service picked up. Another more experienced server brought us first, hand towels to wipe out hands (a nice touch, but the towels were almost cold when he brought them, was it an after thought?); and he also brought us complimentary cups of dal that were very tasty. The dishes we got were saag lamb, butter chicken, and organic channa masala, and garlic buttered Naan. Had our first server known how to describe menu better we may have chosen a few different items. He did recommend the butter chicken as one of his favorite so that's why we got it as we often enjoy it other places as well. It was very good, a classic with great sauce, probably the favorite dish. The saag lamb was good too, but we almost got the patak lamb, similar sounding dish but maybe creamier/ other veggie too? But our first server could not really describe difference well. I'm thinking we may have enjoyed the other dish better than saag lamb which was good, but felt the spinach was extremely over cooked, and so finely chopped almost like it was highly minced or powdered? But it was flavorful. The Channa Masala was on the dry side. We we're trying to decide on a saucy vegetable dish and we asked about this dish because we liked that it said organic. That same first server said it was saucy, but not that saucy. Each dish comes with your choice of white or brown rice, or steamed veggies. Two dishes we got brown rice with, and the third we got steamed veggies because we thought there would be more sauce overall to add them too. The rice was allot ( took quite a bit home); the veggies were this nice mix, but so boring with no taste, and what a waste. The veggies even had water floating in bottom of dish. It would be so much nicer if there were an option to have these lightly stirfried with a little flavor as an option ( they were completely bland) , and there was really not enough saucy stuff to add them to so only partially eaten, left remaining there on table instead of taking home with other stuff. We asked for a sample of their side sauces and we got a tiny (like a tablespoon each?) 3 dish sampling of their very tasty homemade mango sauce, tart and tangy cilantro mint sauce, and some sweeter tamarind sauce. But they were very tiny amounts. The Naan was light and crisp, very nice, but could barely taste garlic butter. We asked for our dishes to be medium heat and it was fairly mild for us still, but i guess with American palate, spicy can be relative. But oh well. We also had cups of chai (under $5.00) that had refills, and a glass of house white wine ( Murphy good Sauvignon Blanc was only $8.00 so that was a deal). I'm giving 4 stars for their efforts, but hope they read this so they can improve a few things.

He is most positive, friendly and conscientious He keeps an eye on all the diners, removing plates, replacing water for the table with a new chilled bottle, and he keeps a close eye on all the buffet items and communicates with the chef when something needs replenishing. The food is, therefore, hot, fresh and incredibly delicious. The one thing we really appreciated is they offer brown and white rice. We much prefer brown rice so that was another positive along with fresh greens. They provide the table with a huge order of fresh naan bread when you first sit down too.
