Open only Wednesday - Saturday during the day, Christine serves up mostly baked goods. She does also offer some soups as well as wurst and currywurst! Be advised that you generally have to order ahead for any kind of bread or brotchen. We sampled pretty much everything she had to offer in the late afternoon. Plum, cherry, and blueberry coffee cake as well as bienenstich (beesting cake). My mother, who grew up in the German ward of St. Louis and is from a German family, was overjoyed, as she was taken right back to her childhood. Perfectly crumbly, buttery crumb cakes with fresh fruits -- they were all delicious, but the plum was the best. I had a slice of bienenstich, which is a cake filled with vanilla custard/cream and topped with caramelized almonds. The cream was so mild and airy and paired perfectly with the crunchy, sweet almond topping. The owner and baker -- who I can only presume is Christine -- was there and she spoke to us about her life in Germany and how she has been running her bakery here for 20 years (she started at around age 40, by the way!) She had a talent for being available when we needed her and hanging back when we wanted "us" time. She was a joy and we loved talking with her. I'll absolutely order some bread in the future and make the drive out. It'll be great to see Christine again! If you're looking for a road trip out of Huntsville -- this is one not to miss.

Very cute little bakery inside. Nice places to sit, cute old timey knickknacks and baking relics -- my mom got a huge kick out of the old KitchenAid mixers. The orange roll was solid -- the soft and yeasty roll was the best part -- though for me the orange glaze was a little too sweet. That's how I usually feel about orange rolls though so if you really love them you'll probably like this one! The muffin remained remarkably moist and the pecans were so nice and toasty on top. Shelves were lined with things your grandma would go nuts over. Jams and jellies, bags of grits, all sorts of things for the cook who knows how to cook with real ingredients. Also a solid selection of prepared/ready to eat items including some pies that looked pretty amazing. Additionally there's a sandwich counter where you can build your own or order one from their menu. All the sandwiches are made to order on their house-made bread and the prices are super low. If I lived near this place that sandwich counter would quickly become a go-to lunch spot. The people were friendly and the place is clean. The prices are right and the selection of items is unique and of high quality. Don't skip this place if you're in the area. 5 stars.

I was surprised to find it in the old Whisk'd location -- RIP to Whisk'd; I loved that restaurant. Street parking only but the street is quiet and it's easy to pop in and out. Inside there's a huge array of confections: classic chocolates like turtles, chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallows, etc., as well as fresh baked cookies and a somewhat startling amount of freeze dried candies. I know that's sort of having a moment right now, but WOW there was a lot of freeze dried stuff to choose from. I don't dislike it but I prefer chocolatey treats so I skirted around the big display. I came about 1.5 hours before closing and will admit the selection (other than freeze dried) was a little sparse. I'm glad they're not letting products go to waste, but in the future, definitely come early if you want to ensure you get everything. More than one customer asked/called in for something only to be turned away while I was shopping around. Of course, the holidays might also have something to do with very high demand. Anyway, I wound up leaving with two cookies (only about four varieties were available when I arrived -- I took a chocolate chip and a brown butter cookie), three chocolate covered pretzels, and one pecan turtle. The service was limited to being rung up at the cash register, but the employee was nice in our limited interaction. My husband and I enjoyed all the treats over the following days! The chocolate was smooth and rich on pretzels and pecans, the caramel chewy and satisfying. The pecans and pretzels were both crispy and fresh -- no problems with staleness here. They have almost anything you could want, but our go to items start with the sausage rolls (we buy them by the dozen) and wrap up with the donuts. They make everything themselves which means you get it while it's fresh or you find that it's gone. And their people are so friendly. As new customers they were super patient and walked us through the ins and outs of what they had, when they typically ran out of things, and even helped us find our way around the town square. I show up to the bakery to pick up our order at noon and I'm told it's not ready yet it will be about an hour and they will deliver it for the inconvenience. I explained the games started at 4:00 so we had to have them by 3:00. I was assured it would be! They never showed up! We had approximately 150 people there and no cake! Even worse the owner would not answer my phone calls or text messages. I have never blasted a business but there's NEVER any excuse to literally ghost your customers!
