The lies were gross too... the dough was like leftover pastry dough with canned apple filling and a bunch of granulated sugar dumped on top of it. I got an orange roll and a sticky bun/pecan roll. I took them home to share with my husband later. The sticky bun was the better of the two items, with toasty nuts and a good amount of cinnamon. The orange roll suffered from the slightly medicinal taste orange flavoring often has but it was decent. Both pastries were a teeny bit on the dry side, but not offensive. I'd give the orange roll a 3/5 and the sticky bun a 4/5, so overall closer to a 3.5. Worth a try if you're craving a treat; I'm glad my curiosity has been sated!

As we walked in we were greeted and saw the large display of exceptionally unique pastries and sweet treats. Cookies (with sprinkles), donuts, cup cakes, cream filled....yes, yes, yes, and YES! Plus so much more. Everything is reasonably priced and not that we fell subject to this, but I could see where it could be kind of hard to walk out of here with just an item or two or eighteen. In addition to the wonderful sweet treats, they had what my GF claimed to be some of the best coffee ever! They also had a large refrigerated section of drinks that included all sorts of soda, milk, water, and unique stuff I've never seen anywhere else (see the pics). I felt awkward and also indecisive so I asked her what her favorite goodie was that they made. Her response was, "I don't really eat any of it," said in a very gruff tone. I followed up with what, then, she thought they sold the most of, to which she told me the cinnamon twist. I also didn't get a goodbye, have a nice day, thank you, etc on my way out. It's not the end of the world, but it did detract a little from my experience. I asked for a cinnamon twist as semi-recommended, and then a large circular loaf pan with chocolate sour cream cake in caught my eye. The price on it was awesome so I added that in real quick. Both treats were good. The cinnamon twist was super soft and pleasantly yeast-y with good cinnamon sugar flavor. The chocolate sour cream cake was moist, with not too many chips, and a delicate and soft crumb. Delicious baked goods! Aside from the surly-ish service, this was a great visit with tasty products. Open only Wednesday - Saturday during the day, Christine serves up mostly baked goods. She does also offer some soups as well as wurst and currywurst! Be advised that you generally have to order ahead for any kind of bread or brotchen. We sampled pretty much everything she had to offer in the late afternoon. Plum, cherry, and blueberry coffee cake as well as bienenstich (beesting cake). My mother, who grew up in the German ward of St. Louis and is from a German family, was overjoyed, as she was taken right back to her childhood. Perfectly crumbly, buttery crumb cakes with fresh fruits -- they were all delicious, but the plum was the best. I had a slice of bienenstich, which is a cake filled with vanilla custard/cream and topped with caramelized almonds. The cream was so mild and airy and paired perfectly with the crunchy, sweet almond topping. The owner and baker -- who I can only presume is Christine -- was there and she spoke to us about her life in Germany and how she has been running her bakery here for 20 years (she started at around age 40, by the way!) She had a talent for being available when we needed her and hanging back when we wanted "us" time. She was a joy and we loved talking with her. I'll absolutely order some bread in the future and make the drive out. It'll be great to see Christine again! If you're looking for a road trip out of Huntsville -- this is one not to miss.

Everyone was fished out their portion and we began to eat, when all of a sudden... our mouths were on fire burning from not heat, but spice, and I mean pepper spice, almost like they used salsa for sauce or something of that nature. None of us could continue to eat it. The following day I called and expressed my concern and dismay and they talked to management but wouldn't put anyone else in the phone and said well that's how we make it. I said it's not supposed to be hot peppery spicy, it's Italian not Mexican food. I have never had lasagna in a spicy version ans I've had it made by a large variety of people and places. They didn't seem to care and that was the extent of the call. I will not give them business again, $48 is a lot to spend on food that is clearly mislabeled.
