It takes a little while because it comes out freshly fried, and mine arrived ridiculously hot. I should have waited. I didn't. What I really like is that Jackie's fried chicken doesn't depend on a thick crust or a ton of spices. The coating is pretty thin and crisp. Underneath, the chicken is extremely juicy and you can tell the seasoning goes into the meat, not just the outside. Mostly a light garlic flavor, a little spice in the background, and a lot of actual chicken flavor. No funky chicken smell at all. Very simple. Very juicy. Very good. I ate six pieces by myself, so there's probably no need for further explanation. And the collard greens... man. Still excellent. A lot of places seem afraid of the natural bitterness in collard greens and try to cook or season it away. Jackie doesn't. These greens are actually bitter -- properly bitter -- but somehow that bitterness becomes the thing that makes you want another bite. Savory, tender, deeply flavored, and still unmistakably collard greens. I've eaten a lot of Southern food over the years, and these are some of the most memorable greens I've had outside the South. I also tried the BBQ chicken and noticed they had brisket going later in the day. Good excuse for another visit. Then, right before leaving, I bought their banana pudding. Another thing I somehow missed last time. It's surprisingly light, not heavy or overly sweet, and the banana flavor hits immediately. Not artificial banana-candy flavor -- it actually tastes like banana pudding made around real bananas. Fragrant, creamy, easy to eat, and unfortunately very easy to finish. So I already know what my next order at Jackie's Place is going to look like: fried chicken, collard greens and banana pudding. We went on the first day of the con, which is Friday, and it was towards the tail end of the Happy Hour so it was pretty busy, but it was going to get more packed due to the dinner rush coming in. We were lucky to get a table and some seats, but on a normal day there's a good number of tables and seats and a counter in the back. You order through a QR code on the table and they bring your food to you. The server was friendly, informed us of what was in stock, what wasn't and super pleasant when dropping off our food. Love service with a smile (even in very busy and stressful conditions). I don't partake in alcohol, so I didn't take advantage of that, but they do have a solid menu variety of the types of drinks they do have. When I walked past to go to the restroom, there's a counter under some TV's showing what they have too. There's some photo opportunities in the hallway to the restroom, love the neon chicken angel wings photo op. For our dinner, we got the: 1) Corn Ribs: -Crispy, Cajun glazed corn ribs and you can get a side of sauce with this but they were seasoned so well that it was unnecessary to add it. -After seeing this at Disneyland, I was enamored by the concept of corn ribs and how novel they are, how easy it is to eat it from a full hulking corn cob. Delicious and interesting, I'd get it again for sure. 2) Fries: -Solid and crispy fries. Great for snacking between bites of meat and dipping in ketchup and sauces.
