It's an historic building, designed by Maui-born architect CW Dickey, and opened in August 1929. It was the first public library in Maui County, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Inside you'll find a great selection of books in all genres, with varying displays of selected works that relate to current events or celebrations, and a staff of friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful librarians eager to help you get the most out of your library experience. There are adult and keiki reading rooms, a rack of books for sale (proceeds benefit the library), magazines, and much more. New automated checkout stations are super convenient and easy to use and offer you the choice of printed or emailed receipt for checked out items. As with all branches of the state library system, you can use their app to request and place holds on items and pick them up here (or any other location). The app also lets you see your due dates for checked out items, renew any if needed, and see where you are in line for items you've requested. The Wailuku library may not be physically huge, but it's definitely punching above its weight and providing great service to the community.

I've driven by a million gazillion times and today was the first time I've ever been inside. It clearly is historic and what a gem. Parking is on the street or in the County parking lot across the street. There is a crosswalk and a ramp in the back for handicapped and strollers. I have fond memories of going to my local hometown library as a child so I hope to do the same for my little blessing. The librarians and everyone were so nice. There is also a little one floor elevator to get down to the keiki area. I love that they have their own space. It is super cute. I can see so many more trips in the future with my little one. Not the fanciest library but still wonderful and for someone who loves books like me, it is one of my happy places.

There's abundant parking, and the pickup system is fast and efficient. After placing a hold on your books online and choosing an appointment day & time, you just go to the front where a worker will scan your library card and hand you your books. That's it! They have monthly craft events, movie nights and more! We especially love Wednesday story time. There's lots of space for little ones with singing, dancing, a craft and of course book reading. Every 1st Wednesday they have puzzles and STEM toys out for little ones to play. Lastly, for older kids and adults, they offer all kinds of reading challenges some through logging books manually, some through the Beanstack app. Currently, during the Olympics, they have a reading challenge where you earn medals! They also have another challenge where you log books to earn prizes. Most recently, we participated in therapets event where you could read to a therapy dog. As…read moreit's been awhile since I've stepped foot in a library and I don't know why as I do love a place to relax and get work done while my phone as gone through a day of use it also needed some recharging as well badly. Looking around some libraries as closed at 4pm but this Aiea location was open until 7pm that made it very convenient as I do see many use it for various reasons. Parking lot in the back is quite large and had no problems finding a spot while the restrooms are outside for public use is very nice as well. As i entered found it so nice and spacious with lots of tables though many spots are taken for the ones that needed outlets to work I did end up finding more designated tables and outlets use to charge is very cool. The vibe here is very relaxing and now will keep libraries in mind for times that I do need to sit and relax along with a restroom break as well all provided to the public is something we all need to remember. In many cases, it seems individuals use the desks and outlets to charge their devices preventing those with laptops from using the space effectively. Also, with the enclosed quiet space, the unfortunate lack of certain transient hygiene is a significantly disruptive. I hope the state can look into managing the needs of both library users and others in a meaningful way.
