Great place with a lot of memories. It's unfortunate, however, that the quiet room is the only location with viable outlets. In many cases, it seems individuals use the desks and outlets to charge their devices preventing those with laptops from using the space effectively. Also, with the enclosed quiet space, the unfortunate lack of certain transient hygiene is a significantly disruptive. I hope the state can look into managing the needs of both library users and others in a meaningful way. read more

This library is on the warmer side. Not sure if the AC works well, also it smells like wet carpet. If you're sensitive to smells and looking for a library to stay at for a bit, I wouldn't recommend this one. It is also next to the YMCA so you can hear their Zumba classes through the walls. So if any of you know me, you will know I've always loved reading. Since Oh approximately 2013 I've had my Mililani library card. I go through phases of weekly or every other week visits to not going for a year. And I've the years I've been a really good late fee contributor. But the library! I love it. Mililani library isn't super fancy or high tech like the library near my sister in Colorado but there is charm to the place. Over the years I've seen some renovations and especially in the last year they have done a lot to adapt to dealing with covid regulations. They usually keep to pretty consistent hours but the hours also have changed over the years. I feel that the library is doing a great job to regulate the number of people inside at once as well as having protective partitions at the help desk and the check out area. Most recent is the addition of a table inside where you verify you have your vaccination card to enter. The safety measures haven't changed the service that is provided and everyone is still very friendly! If you ask me the library is super underrated and sometimes overlooked. You can get most everything here and if there's a book you can't find, talk to the librarians and give the suggestion! They are super open and over the years I have made a friend in Kelly who I talk to about all sorts of books, mostly fantasy but she gives me great suggestions. You can borrow e-books, CDs and DVDs, use the computer... all kinds of good stuff. I love the summer reading challenges... win free stuff! I also really like that you can always look up books to borrow and request them online. Then you can make an appointment to pick it up once it's available. My longest library hiatus was from the end of 2019 until a few months ago. Wow, it totally killed me not coming to the library but part of it was covid, the other part was my outrageously overdue book. Well... it was due back in December of 2019 and I had a really hard time getting through it but I was committed. You would think I would've made time to read it during lockdown and working from home but nope... I also got that "lost book" notice and replacement charge sent to me but yeah, I was kinda shame bringing the book back half read. My motivation to read it and come back to pay my fines was due to some books that I really wanted to read this year. Thankfully it wasn't a list book anymore since I returned it and I contributed to the overdue pot. All is right in the world. Well at least in my world. Since returning the year++ overdue book, I've been able to stay in the 3 week borrow period, taking 2-3-4 books at once. So far in 2021, I haven't had additional fees (yet, because it's me. Inevitable) and I've read the entire Shadow & Bone Trilogy, Serpent & Dove trilogy, and a few other books on my to-read list. My mom told me she didn't realize I read so much which makes me laugh cause I used to sneak reading by junk light when I was little causing me to get glasses at a young age. So far this year I've read 41 books (thank you to Goodreads tracking and reading challenge) in my goal of reading 50 books this year. read more

This is our home library - it's not amazing, but it is functional and gives us what we need in a library. Like any branch, the best part of the Hawai'i library system is the ability to reserve any book online and pick it up at any location. That was available pre-COVID, but I've used it even more during the pandemic. The libraries app is great - you can search, access your account (and linked accounts for family members), renew online, read digital books, and listen to audiobooks. It's very useful. There is a decent selection here, for both grownups and keiki. My little guy wishes they had more books about vehicles, but we're able to get some from other libraries. Half the library is dedicated to keiki books, which is great for Mililani, which is full of families. The staff is friendly. They do summer reading programs every year, and sometimes during winter break - for keiki and adults. They have challenges, games, prizes, and incentives for minutes of reading. Sometimes the Mililani branch does some special prize drawings. There are copy machines, reading areas, events and meeting space (again some day), computers, and used book sales. The only drawbacks I can think of are minor. The parking lot is gated, so returning books after hours is a challenge. You *can* park on the street, but that's a busy area and it never feels safe to do so. That has contributed to a bunch of my overdue fines. In the grand scheme of things, paying a dollar or two each month for access to everything the library has to offer is still a good deal. Also, every time I check something out, the librarians mention my overdue fines. I know I have them, and I don't always have cash with me. I'm sure they just want folks to clear their fines, but it feels a little shame-y to me. It's clearly a training point, because I get it at every location, not just Mililani. You are restricted from checking out new things if your fines exceed $10 - it would be nicer if they just told you when you were getting close to the limit, maybe above $7 or $8 triggers a reminder. But reminding me of my 75-cent fine balance every time is a little off-putting. read more

Mililani Library is my second home. " Home Sweet Home..." or should I say " Library Sweet Library." The name says it all. Yes, I'm always here and...yes, there are sweet people who provides outstanding service! I always feel like home whenever I come here. I visit this library every three weeks. Yup, every three weeks I get to visit my second family. Most of the Librarians are very helpful and they go over and beyond to assist me whenever I check out my books or need that extra help locating specific books. My favorite Librarian is...Ingrid. She always greets me with warm smile and a "hello" the moment I step foot into the library until the moment I leave. Thank you, Ingrid for making me feel welcomed. Although I visit on a regular basis, I do like to check out their "Friends of the Library Book Sale" that goes on periodically throughout the year. In the parking lot, tents are set up and hundreds of discarded/outdated/donated books and resources are sold for "Dirt Cheap." So, if you love books and love to save money, come and check out this sale. Banners are usually posted in front of the library and signs are posted around the street medians. Sometimes they also sale white elephant knick knacks, too. Most times, I walk away with a handful of books. Spring break is here! And this momma has picked up books to read with my little one. Been borrowing books from the library ever since I was a little girl. Since bedtime stories were my favorite I figured I'd hope to peak my sons interest in books as well. Success! He tends to grab books over toys! Still trying to cut ties with them electronics though but this is a start. On Tuesdays during certain time of the year, a librarian or volunteer reads a story time book to pre-school aged children in the kids section. I brought my son a few times but he was more interested in exploring around. However it's a great program! During those college days and now back in school AGAIN, I recently borrowed books for a research paper. The lady was Uber helpful in helping me locate the section of my topic. It has been a long while since I've used those library search engines and I don't want to stay any longer, so I appreciate her help. There was this one time a librarian told me to use the search engine, I tried, gave up, and with some luck found it on my own. Computers are for use but you need your library card and PIN number. Printing is by donation based, so be sure to donate a couple bucks or some change at least. I sure don't want to lose the privilege of overprinting and having the library go over budget. So don't be cheap, we all got spare change somewhere, even if it's just a page or two! Every bit counts. Overall, I plan to keep our library card activate and to visit as many times as we can. My middle schooler has this AR reading goal that requires XX amount of points but limited to certain books. Library card provided with the computers with internet access gives him all the tools he needs to meet his AR reading goals. He can look up AR appropriate titles and the employees at the information desk are more than happy to help him find the books he's in search of. Not only is he able to borrow his books for studies, but he can also borrow a couple of books for fun. The kids are obsessed with anime and manga does not fall short. From Dragon Ball Z to Sailor Moon and Pokemon, this library has a good selection to keep the kids satisfied. Once everyone has found their perfect reading material, there's lots of space to either stick together, or have our own small personal space. From the kids section with a small, open carpeted space. Or if you prefer little tables and chairs for homework and studying, they have those available too. In the teens/adult section there are the computers with internet access as well as multiple tables and chairs for quiet study groups and homework sessions. In between both sections they've opened it up with individual work stations/desks for quiet work projects and other things. This library isn't as large as the one I'm used to in Kapolei, but it really is big enough to get whatever you need done. The selection so far has been just fine. The employees are all helpful and not at all impolite like some at other locations.... I don't really care for the awkwardness of the parking lot, but at least there's enough stalls. It is a tiny bit odd that when the library is closed the gates are closed (which is understandable) but, why have two drop off bins inside the closed gate, next to each other? I would find it more useful if one of the drop boxes were easier to access. But, that's just me. read more

I like Mililani Public Library for the following reasons: 1) great DVD selection - both children and adults selection. Rental for one week is $1.00. I've been coming here a lot lately for the DVD rentals. 2) good adult reference section with manuals and test booklets you can peruse if you are studying to be a nurse, teacher, doctor, lawyer or welder. 3) "Honor Backs" section where you can trade your old read paperbacks for another book. 4) Book sale section - Friends of the Library have some cheap books you can buy. 5) Magazine and Eyeglass donation section. Need a magazine? Or how about some glasses? Head for the Mag-n-Eyes section (I made this up - they are actually in the QUIET section). 6) Quiet section separated from the rest of the library. I walked in here the other day and they were....VERY quiet. It was almost weird. Seven adults, all clustered around a few tables and not even a sniffle. The loudest person was me, with my foot shuffling across the carpet. I swore they were all dummies placed here by the library for props purposes. 7) Very visible Security Guard. Yes. Sitting in uniform by the kid's book section. Scary. The library is open from.....not sure, because last time I checked the Hawaii State Library Webpage, they put the WRONG information and my son and I drove up anticipating more kiddie DVDs but they were closed!! Not cool. My son was whining and bugging me....thanks, erroneous State of Hawaii website. The library has adult side, kid side and the quiet side. There's also a cool little neat atrium but I didn't get a picture of that as I tend to be a little camera shy nowdays getting yelled at by store owners/employees for taking pictures. What I don't like about the library: 1) Bad parking lot design. I never park in the stalls. I park on the street. Turning left out of the library driveway is almost impossible with the heavy traffic from both directions heading to Longs and Wal-Mart. Parking stalls are also tiny and good luck backing out without hitting the car behind you. 2) Wrong info on website regarding hours of operation. I bet I am not the only mom whose kid was getting upset due to not having a kiddie DVDs to borrow. 3) Lines to check out may get a bit long. Almost every single library on Oahu has had really bad, non-existent or crappy parking, maybe it's not only unique to Mililani Public Library. read more

This library gives me a very homey feel, it's cute and straight to the point. You will not get lost on different floors or halls lol! There are many libraries in the state of Hawaii, and the one I usually go to is the mililani branch. The selection of books is diverse, and the mystery fiction selection is great. The staff is wonderful and very helpful to the publics needs. The branch manager always strives to help with the customer's needs, which shows how much her and the staff care about the library. As this is one of the busier libraries, it's easy to see how hard working and dedicated the staff at the circulation desk are. Also to those who complain about fines, just return the books on time and undamaged and you'll be ok. read more

SSSSShhhh! It's a library! Mililani Public Library is always crowded because it's the only location in Mililani. This branch has all of the books you're looking for or else you can easily request it. The children's section carries a very good selection of picture books, board books, easy readers and youth books. On the opposite of the building is the fiction, non-fiction and computers with internet access. Behind the children's room is an enclosed reference room which is extremely quiet. No snoozing allowed! This branch is located across the Mililani Town Center (look for Burger King) and Mililani High School. The hours of operation: Monday and Wednesday 1:00PM-8:00PM Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10:00AM-5:00PM Closed Sunday and every single holiday ever created Parking is located in front and side of the building and there is no street parking so it could be crowded at times. I'm so thankful for them as my daughter is an avid reader and my son has a thirst for listening to book. =) The library is great so I don't have to keep buying books! I returned several books today. Not 10 minutes later, Ingrid at the Mililani library called. She said she found an envelope with a kid's bug thing in it and a letter. I was so grateful for her call - although it may seem just like a kid's toy, what is inconsequential to an adult may be something of value to someone's child. I'm grateful that she recognized that a child may still want what was accidentally left behind and not just toss it. I am so happy we went to the Mililani Library today! I was able to apply for my library card in case the keiki wanted to borrow some books. They required a picture id with your current address and we only just moved to Mililani Mauka this past mid-August. No problem!! They allowed me to download my bank statement online that shows my Mililani address!! Yay!! I got my new library card and will definitely be back with the kiddos!! "How to not be a Dick" Just the book I've always been looking for! I've grown up coming to this library and look forward to taking my munchkin here after school to do homework and check out some books. I had a great laugh on my last visit when I found that book, wedged between the wedding planning and marriage counseling books. Great sense of humor, guys! The staff here is super helpful and knowledgeable, which I love. Haven't used the $1 DVD rentals because lets be honest.....the books barely make it back on time! It's okay. Definitely not as large or new as Kapolei, but it gets the job done. I usually place holds on books from other libraries and go to pick them up in this location on my way to do errands. It's in a central part of Mililani which is really convenient. They also redid the parking lot and added more stalls. They do a lot of activities for kids like movie nights, magic shows, etc. read more

I have no time to study. I work full-time, I take classes, and I still have to be a wife. At home, it's too hot to study and there are too many distractions... like Yelp. And doughnuts. So where does a gal go to get her stuff straight? Starbucks? No way. Starbucks is full of people socializing over coffee. It's too loud, too cramped, and 40 other people are trying to do the same thing. Ah, the good, old-fashioned library. Love this place! Albeit, they don't have primo selection of resources for any type of thesis that I would need to write, but it does provide a nice, quiet space for me to study, plus no one is ever here and I can have a whole table to myself! Hoorah! FYI, they do charge $.15 per sheet of paper that you print out from the web. read more

I come here to study sometimes when I'm on this side of the island on Saturdays. There is always ample seating in the quiet study room to the right of the entrance. Plus, there are some outlets to charge my computer! I can't get anything school-related done at Starbucks, although it's a great place to people watch! The library is much more suited to a quiet learning environment. One thing I wish it did have was wifi. *Update*: I believe the public libraries all have WIFI now? According to their website at least... Also, Mililani Library has a really great shelf of pre-owned books that have been donated that are for sale. They pretty much take whatever donation you're willing to give, so it's more of a trust system. They have some best sellers and a good mix of random reads. read more

If you are here to do research, be forewarned: you will most likely not find the exact book you are looking for due to the poor selection at this very small library. More than half the time I am trying to find a specific book, I have to have it shipped from the main library because they don't have it or it was "damaged/lost". On a different note, the librarians aren't very kind and they always look grumpy. I haven't been treated well at this library. One time, I needed to use the phone for something very important, and I didn't have any money on me. They told me sorry. I later called in to the manager and she said that the librarians are supposed to give money to people who need to use the pay phone. I only go here if I really NEED to, but other than that, I try to stray away from it. Also, the parking is terrible. Good luck finding a spot. read more

Yelp 100 Review Challenge 2014 Review 2/100 I'm one of those people who gets distracted easily, so when my students' work corrections begin piling up, I know it's time to take a trip to the library. There is a dedicated quiet section near the entrance to the library. I worked in that room the first time I ventured into the library, but I found working in that small area difficult. I ended up moving into the regular section so I could spread my papers out. I liked that there were lots of tables to choose from, but I ended up sitting right next to the computers. There were some people on the computers who were talking loudly about the websites they were on. I'll make more of an effort to find a table in another area next time. WiFi is free with a library ID, so that will save you some data in your phone. The library is conveniently located close to Mililani Town Center, Mililani High School, and the Mililani YMCA. It's a great place to study or do work when you just don't feel like sitting at Starbucks. read more

If anybody wants to see how libraries looked back in the late 1970s, then this is it. Now, I don't mean to be insulting - I grew up in the 70s; my mom was a fan of libraries and got me hooked on them (mostly the Waipahu Library, sometimes Pearl City). The library's interior is plain and dowdy-looking, with shades of orange, tan and brown all over. It even feels a little musty - damp, even. The airy Victorian architecture of the main library downtown, looks and feels nothing like Mililani's. The main library downtown looks like a true repository of knowledge. Mililani Library looks just like the elementary school library at Honowai, filled with books from Dr. Seuss. Anyhoo, the reason why I make ado about the looks of the library, is because it should, like the main library, feel like a place of deep knowledge; where I feel like intelligence comes to reside here. Instead I feel like the Brady Bunch lives here, and that Marsha will soon come 'round the corner, hair swishing, holding this month's teen mag (if you didn't get the reference, then you must surely be under the age of 30). What attracted me to Mililani Library was the recent announcement that all Hawaii libraries would feature free wifi. What they have offered in this regard is 4 utility tables slammed against a wall end-to-end with a single dirty power strip to sit and plug in (keep in mind the power strip is near the end of this line-up of tables; sucks to be you if the only space to sit is 16 feet away from it). Apparently, wifi coverage only extends to this small area; I'm tempted to buy the library a high-powered wireless-n router from the Wal-Mart up the street, to provide coverage to all four corners of the building (and it would only cost like, $40 to get one). Even in this small designated area, the wifi signal only registers 50% strength on my laptops (I have 5, tried them all and they all read the same, so it's not just a single laptop). Wifi speeds go from dismal (30kb/s) to absolutely sucky (9kb/s) even with no one else there. My 3G connection through my tethered cell phone gets 60kb/s data speeds, sometimes peaking at 180kb/s. What's going on at Mililani Library? Good Points: 1) it's quiet (as all libraries should be), 2) it's clean, 3) lots of parking (but dammit plant some trees for shade), 4) the librarians leave me alone. // read more

I really hate coming to this library, partly because they are renovating it and the a/c is non-existent but mostly because the workers are not friendly! They seem annoyed that you are there & they must not like kids cuz they never say hello but they will always make a point to remind you about your fines. Annoying. It's been a long time coming...because I want to get this right to give Mililani Library THE RESPECT it rightfully deserves...because my number one Jeana P. 2016 Resolution is "Hold back, screen, then screen myself again before talking". First, I'll tell you why Mililani Library has the most beautifulest people then aaaany other library on planet Earth. Second, there's a security guard here that would give Liam Neeson a run for his money, so Liam better watch out. INCLUDING if Liam Neeson and this security guard were to have a battle-of-the-dads Brad Pit Fight Club style at a Mililani park, who would win that battle?, so you have to stick around for that. Lastly, I'll go over my final thoughts on Mililani Library, and there are some negatives, so I apologize in advance. One thing I noticed about Mililani Library that always made me wonder is how beautiful the people were, and I mean beautiful in not just physical beauty, but also dressed to the nines beauty and how everyone is sooo dressed nice and tight, every time! So I was thinking there has to be some kind of causal explanation and I found it. I found out what was causing beauty abound at Mililani Library, and the thing I found that was causing this was Mililani Library's healthy narcissistic window tint at the entrance of the library. Another phenomenon I observed was the security guard! He's like the Hawaiian Liam Neeson. He's a great security guard who does his job with dedication, and I'm not being sarcastic. So if this Mililani Library security guard and Liam Neeson were to duke it out at a Mililani park, I think it would come down to one thing, and that's if the security guard knows who Liam Neeson is because if he does know Liam Neeson he'll be so star struck that he would barley fight and Liam would win. If he doesn't know who Liam Neeson is then the security would win buy a landslide, no contest. Reason being this security guard has to be ready for any sickos at any time 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year whereas Liam Neeson only does it for six months a year with a script in front of him, so he always looks good. Okay I want to transition to my final thoughts on Mililani Library. The issues I have with Mililani Library are: One, they place their books at ground level, and unless you're a porn star and weightlifter people don't want to keep squatting down to get a book at ground level. I don't get it because their CDs and DVDs are on tables at waist level. The good news is because Mililani Library has quiet room. The quiet room cancels out the books placed at ground level. Two, and I'm going to plead ignorance on this, but I really feel that one o'clock is too late for this Library to open. Also, being in a library at night just doesn't feel right! At eight o'clock, you should be safe at home or in a restaurant or at a movie enjoying life not in a library...just enough learning already, just stop-stop. I'm going to leave you with a clip which I think is the embodiment of learning at the end of the review, so that you remember it when you're in a library at night because I know you're still going to go. What I really like about this Library are the workers. They parallel Aiea Library's workers. And again, they have a great quiet room with private cubicles. I love this library, especially since they expanded the parking lot (so parking is not so much of an issue anymore). The library staff is really nice, though loud kids are an issue. I know there is a children's section, but kids are running around the quiet zone in the front and the adult sections, and the security/staff/parents don't do a thing to stop it. I had to leave a couple of times cause I couldn't study (I mean isn't that what a library is for?). read more

Not a bad place to go on a hot or rainy day. There are books and newspapers to read, tables and chairs to use, countless books of all types, air conditioning, clean, bathrooms, nice staff, videos and music to rent (some for a small fee of $1). It's a great place... however the hours and days open are not convenient. They are open 10am - 5pm on some days and 1pm - 5pm on others. Then they are closed Sundays and Holidays. Can you explain to me how they close Sat-Sun-Mon for a Monday Holiday? We need a place to go and relax/read on our time off as well.... mind boggling. Aside from their terrible hours, it's a great place to spend the hot hours in air conditioning. I wish they would open a little later and remain open until 8 or 9pm. Just an opinion. read more

The Manager -Wendy-really loves the community. It shows. The library is open 6 days a week. Mon. & Wed. evenings 1 pm - 8 pm, Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday 10 am - 5 pm. The flyers they have are really helpful, plus it lets the community know of upcoming events being held there, and for homework help flyers too. The space and books sections are well organized I can always find what I'm looking for. Love the New Books sections-always a great selection! Mililani FriendsBooksale-need I say more -we know in advanced when the sale will happen. The Children have a section all to themselves separate from the teens and adult sections. Plus the space is so cute. Great Signage throughout-kudos for the sign that says www.librarieshawaii.org we can see that when we are passing by the library. I used to go here a lot when I was little. My dad would take me every week or so and let me check out a couple of books. From what I remember, they had a pretty extensive kids section and even a little reading area where I'd hang out and read my books.
