    Pretty big location

Seems like during Covid times, this library isn't busy but my daughter wanted to check out the books from here since she has a reading log to complete for school. To me, I grew up reading books and many young kids read books online now. Upon entering, you must show your vaccination card along with identification. There's a lady up front checking your cards. After we showed them that, we entered and it was cool inside with tables along the side. My daughter checked out a few books and I got one. I love reading books too. The inside was clean and organized and the ladies working here were nice and helpful as we checked out. This library is close by and convenient. Plenty of parking up front and restrooms are just outside the entrance. I would definitely come back to check out more books. Highly recommend!

Nice large aristic Master piece outside

Like any library, Aiea library is a brand New State of the art digital library, its is fully furnished and air conditioned cooled. Its location is convienantly located in the heart of Aiea. This place is ideal for hanging out for reading books and use of internet. Best of all, its is Open to the Public. But due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing is encouraged and to wear a mask, at all times.

Stop by after picking up cny food today. The old aiea library was by aiea manapuna, they moved up across the medical lab up the street. This one the design is quaint with very little wasted space. Standard computer stations in the center right next to checkout operating center. A few tables on each side to separate adults, and children area. Similar to manoa. Quiet place to escape hustle and bustle from town ones.

If the library is closed park along the side and go up these stairs to get to the book drop off

I went to drop off my sons library books today and was surpRised that the library was closed on a Friday! Being the helpful Yelper that I am I thought I would take a pic of the posted hours or anY other useful info....two older Asian women were talking in the parking lot and as I approached the library, one started yelling at me that the library was closed!! Yes obviously but does that mean I can't approach it and look at the hours?? The other one then stated I could drop my books in the book drop ( which I was standing in front off, insert eye roll) so I said well I was just going to check the hours?? She said tomorrow 10-5 ....ok well how about the rest of the week?? Now I'm assuming that these two women work here otherwise why are you hanging out in the parking lot when the library is closed discouraging people from looking at the hours???? The older of the women was very rude and if these are librarians then I do not want to come to this library. So FYI this library is CLOSED on FRIDAYS! Should u try and gather info there are parking lot protectors ....wtf? UPDATE - so yes those were employees ....I was hoping to grab a kids reading and activities schedule, along with hours and adult info such as classes and conference room availability ( I'm unsure if conference rooms are available to the public) after running the rest of my errands I went back and realized the parking lot was now locked. The ladies agitation might have been that I drove right in the first time since the gate was unlocked BUT who's fault is that???? Then you should Lock it after u drive in!!! Secondly even though the gates locked u park along the road and there are stairs that lead right to the entrance and book drop off. Upon reading the signs I figured out I put my books in the wrong drop off since it clearly says go around the building ....which I would have known had I been able to read the sign, instead of fending off that old vulture in the parking lot!! I don't recommend this library .....had I not been a heavy set Polynesian in sweats I don't think I would have gotten the same treatment!!

This new state library is A-Ok for me. It's a new facility with a meeting room on left side and library on right side under one roof. It gave me a recreation center feel. Bathrooms are located outside of the library. Good thinking because as things age, bathrooms are the first thing to stink like Pearl City library (which is under renovation). Book shelves are kid friendly meaning it's only 3 or 4 feet tall. They many DVDs but sorted by alphas and not alphabetized. Plentiful parking inside the library and street parking is available as well.

Totally LOVE THIS PLACE!! Since renovations, they've had so much community activities. Movie nights, computer classes, story time, game nights & summer reading programs & contests. It's ALL FREE & FUN!! Thank you AIEA LIBRARY for opening your doors to everyone. Oh the awesome thing is... can eat & drink in this room too. Lol!! Next activity is making SLIME!!! Kids don't know it yet... BUT, I know they're gonna LOVE IT!! Thank you Michael for bringing us. Oh and the really awesomest bestest part of it all is... A/C BABY!!! Ahhh... so cool!!!!

Very nice new library with plenty of parking. Doesn't seem to have very many books yet as a lot of the shelves are half empty but otherwise a decent selection. I really like that they have self check out area, but they need to have instructions on how to check the books out. I observed several people standing there looking confused on how to use the self check out (myself included). The only gripe I have about is that this new library does not have a drive up book drop to return books. If the library is closed you have to drop off you book in the front of the library. The parking lot is in back and they have lock up the hallway between the front and back of the building so you have to walk all the way around the building to drop off your books. Hope the put a book drop off in the back soon.

    Checkout challenge for the kids!

Haven't been to the library since intermediate & the library was still next to M&M bbq. I really do love this new location. Having a child brought me back here & it's very nice and clean. Information desk always a good help. They have a activity right now for Halloween depending on the # of books your children borrow they get to pull out these little wrapped up stickers and inside could have a shiny candy corn then if you get a shiny candy corn sticker you get to pull a scroll and inside is your prize. We got a free ice cream from McDonald's. So clever and fun for the kids. I still see the same librarians there from my elementary and intermediate days. How awesome!

In my book, no pun intended, anything, anyplace or any person who has something to offer that will benefit ALL of the people in a community or more importantly, our youth, deserves Five Stars! The recipient of my Five Star rating is Aiea Public Library. I, and I am pretty sure lot's of other folks, have been anxiously awaiting the opening of this new library! So, after driving by on opening day, July 19 and seeing the madhouse, I decided to wait for a bit to let the initial crowds taper down. I read in the newspaper that in the first hour of their opening, over 800 people visited and throughout the day, over a thousand! But, somehow it doesn't surprise me being that it's new, it's visible and it has a big parking lot! It's also energy efficient with it's PV panels to being Handicap friendly. Nice wheelchair ramp in the front and Handicap parking stalls in back. Being a caregiver to my elderly mom, I now take more notice of these amenities more seriously since being faced with some non-friendly places. Much appreciated! As for the interior, I was a bit pressed for time, but I was very impressed with the layout! Nice entry/reception area, young adults section, DVD's, CD's, children's area... My favorite sections were the publications section, nice comfy chairs to plunk down into while you read through the various newspapers and magazines. I was happy to find the latest copy of the Hawaii Business News knowing that I won't have to subscribe to it in order to read it! The Hawaiiana section was of great interest. I found books with subjects I like, Hawaii's Marine Life with books dating to the 50's... I also found some very interesting books dealing with the now defunct pineapple industry discussing the various plantations and canneries around the state, a book that told of the history of Honolulu Airport from the days when it was still known as Rodgers Field... I wish I had more time to explore the other sections, but I'm sure I'll be visiting again real soon since it's such a relaxing place to go to...unless you're studying! :) Thank you State of Hawaii, you really did a great job with this library for the good folks of Aiea and the State of Hawaii!!

The owner greeted me right away with that warm, aloha spirit energy. No attitude, no long drawn-out process. She got straight to scanning my old dusty books while I waited, and when she was done, she texted me -- yes, texted me -- to let me know. Walked up, got my receipt, got my quote. Super professional, super smooth. Here's the best part: while I was waiting, I browsed around and found three gifts for my grandchildren that I knew they'd love. So in one trip I freed up a ton of space at home from books that had been taking up way too much room and knocked out some gift shopping. Win-win-win! The whole setup is easy too -- rolled the carts right from my car into the store, no stress. My friend was chillin' in the massage chair outside the whole time, so nobody's time was wasted. I was originally just gonna dump everything at Goodwill. So glad I didn't. I'm already planning to come back with my old DVDs and CDs just sitting my shed in the backyard. If you've got stuff collecting dust at home, bring it here first. You might walk out with cash in your pocket and a smile on your face. Highly recommend. 5/5, no question!

The modest physical size belies its welcoming ambiance and is bright, tastefully decorated, and perfect for deep studying at the privacy carrels. The book collection, as mentioned, is always current and interlibrary loans are available island-wide from the Marine Base Hawaii, Joint base Hickam and Pearl Harbor libraries. I've always been able to borrow NY Times best sellers if not within my visitation then shortly thereafter. I utilize this library's online reservation system, so far limited to this library and Yano library at Schofield Barracks, and the wait times are quite reasonable. I do a lot of research utilizing the online resources, especially for high-priced subscriptions as Wall St. Journal, Consumer Reports, Morningstar et al. The website is always current and well organized with a wealth of activities and programs for all ages and interests ranging from book clubs, children live shows, story times, movies and more. Saving the best for the last, the staff are so approachable and knowledgeable going out of their way to offer the highest level of library service. In summary, the best kept secret library resource in town, bar none.

It's not a good place to study if you dislike roaches, spiders or centipedes. I used to come here consistently in November and December of 2021 to study for a major exam. It was my best option, since state libraries get very cold. Every day of November and December, the insects seemed to multiply- one time a centipede even crawled on my toe. And I chose to ignore it at that time. Today, March 2022, I came to study again for a minor exam and the problem seems to have gotten worse. It looks like insects are just constantly swept to the side, month after month! But that's just my speculation. I made sure to get pictures so that hopefully someone can do something about this gross problem. Even the bathroom sign says the trash isn't taken out every day. Gross!

I'm a nerd and this place fascinates me. I recently got the opportunity to tag along on a field…read moretrip with my daughter and I think I had a better time than she did! It's rather small, so you could tour the whole facility in about an hour. The facility is across the way from the Pacific Aviation Museum. Your tour starts off in the lobby in where you circle around the large "sphere". Various images are projected on the sphere including the topography of earth versus Mars, the direction of the winds, and what I thought was cool, is they show you real time how many and where all aircrafts are flying. After that the kids are taken into a room with a large floor map and quizzed on world geography. Then we were directed into the "augmented sand box" room. Here the kids got to play in a sand box as the change in topography and elevation were projected on a large screen in front of them. Our last stop was the tsunami information Center where the kids learned about where tsunamis come from and the warning signs. They got to play with a "wave box" and sit in a conference room overlooking the 24 hour tsunami surveillance center. They just opened the facility for people to tour so there isn't too much to see, but the things you do get to learn are interesting. There's a cafeteria to grab a meal or snack. There's also a library and lots of pamphlets on different topics related to weather and all things oceanography related. If you're into things like that, you might want to visit while you're on Ford Island. Speaking of Ford Island, you need military access to get here. I don't know how admission works since we were invited on a field trip sponsored by Geographical information services. I'm sure if you give them a call expressing interest, you can get in.

This is a review of the cafeteria inside the NOAA building at Ford Island…read more If you have base access, the cafeteria inside the NOAA building is a good choice for a work lunch. If you've made it past the military guard at the Ford Island bridge, go to your extreme right at the roundabout. You'll recognize the NOAA building right away. It will be on your right. It's all tall glass windows and steel and pretty unlike the Navy buildings. I know, I know. The Navy has other priorities. It spends its money on the fleet and sailors. Once you get to the NOAA building, you'll find a large open parking lot with ample parking spaces. Parking is free. Inside the building, you need to give the NOAA security guard your ID ( state driver license is ok) and in exchange you'll get a Visitor Badge that you keep until you're done with the visit. My friends and I go there for the cafeteria. It serves hot, freshly prepared daily specials. You can also find soups, sandwiches, muffins, pastries and burgers. There are cold items like fruit cups, juice drinks and yogurt. The salad bar is a great deal. It's not fancy. Ruby Tuesday offers more items at its salad bar, but NOAA is more affordable and not as crowded. What's neat is that the cashier weighs the container your salad is in and doesn't charge you for it or for the dressing if you put it in a separate container. I wish other places did that. If you use a plate for your meal, there's a cool conveyor belt that you can put the plate on and it takes it to the back to be washed. Sort of like a sushi restaurant conveyor belt except it's only for dirty plates. There's plenty of seating with great views of Pearl Harbor. NOAA staff even eat their homemade lunch in the area which is cool. Be sure to get there by 11:20 am at least because you could wait a while for your food unless you go with the salad bar or cold items. At the end, give your Visitor Badge back to the guard to get your ID back.
