With so many support services getting cut across our military bases, I'm so thankful that the base library is still supported.

They have monthly craft events, movie nights and more! We especially love Wednesday story time. There's lots of space for little ones with singing, dancing, a craft and of course book reading. Every 1st Wednesday they have puzzles and STEM toys out for little ones to play. Lastly, for older kids and adults, they offer all kinds of reading challenges some through logging books manually, some through the Beanstack app. Currently, during the Olympics, they have a reading challenge where you earn medals! They also have another challenge where you log books to earn prizes. Most recently, we participated in therapets event where you could read to a therapy dog. My daughter loved petting all the dogs and getting to know them! Overall, we absolutely love learning, reading, and playing at the library! Overall, we love learning, reading, and playing here!

As…read moreit's been awhile since I've stepped foot in a library and I don't know why as I do love a place to relax and get work done while my phone as gone through a day of use it also needed some recharging as well badly. Looking around some libraries as closed at 4pm but this Aiea location was open until 7pm that made it very convenient as I do see many use it for various reasons. Parking lot in the back is quite large and had no problems finding a spot while the restrooms are outside for public use is very nice as well. As i entered found it so nice and spacious with lots of tables though many spots are taken for the ones that needed outlets to work I did end up finding more designated tables and outlets use to charge is very cool. The vibe here is very relaxing and now will keep libraries in mind for times that I do need to sit and relax along with a restroom break as well all provided to the public is something we all need to remember. Thank you!

The ceiling lights remind me of my grandma's old living room! There's useful resources when entering like bus routes, tax forms, the new ENV sewer credit application, etc. The library is organized & reference signs are clear. It's quiet (like it should be). There's computer areas, charging station, children's room, another room in back, a meeting room for activities/games, that you could also rent. There's a atrium (or something like that - see pic). There's free weekly activities for the communitiy to join (what we waiting for)! The staff is friendly and explanatory. Tips: Cash or checks only! Hot list books & DVD's are 1 week rental, all other books, even ukulele's can rent 3 weeks and return to any state public library! You can also do Self checkout if you feeling anti social. Speaking of, it's Mental Health Awareness month & they caringly put out resources, pamphlets & book suggestions to help with that Happy reading!

Taking a closer look, the images portrayed the Filipinos' intense displeasure of the Marcos regime, by organizing the "People Power Revolution", which eventually exiled Ferdinand an Imelda to Hawaii because of their close friendship with then-Governor George Ariyoshi. The Greco-Roman State Library building was funded by a $100,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie. The building was designed by Mrs. Carnegie's brother, Henry Whitfield. The building has copper doors and a green tiled roof. The 20,000 square foot building opened in 1913 and housed historical Hawaiian collections in addition to other literature. The building was expanded in 1927 with design by Charles Dicky to add space and enclose the courtyard. The central courtyard with gardens in the building provides a beautiful area to read and enjoy the tropical weather. Several pieces of Hawaiian art hang in the foyer and on other library walls. The collection is divided into Children's, Young Adult and Adult sections. I found books unique to Hawaiian culture. Some stack areas are closed off for some reason and require assistance to access. The staff is aloha friendly and eager to assist. They eagerly provided me with information about the library. A unique feature of the library is the presence of a US Passport office. Visitors can apply for and renew passports here. While functional, the library could use some restoration and refresh. The building was named to the National Register in 1982. There is limited metered street parking in front of the building. I did not see a dedicated lot, but there may be one.

The modest physical size belies its welcoming ambiance and is bright, tastefully decorated, and perfect for deep studying at the privacy carrels. The book collection, as mentioned, is always current and interlibrary loans are available island-wide from the Marine Base Hawaii, Joint base Hickam and Pearl Harbor libraries. I've always been able to borrow NY Times best sellers if not within my visitation then shortly thereafter. I utilize this library's online reservation system, so far limited to this library and Yano library at Schofield Barracks, and the wait times are quite reasonable. I do a lot of research utilizing the online resources, especially for high-priced subscriptions as Wall St. Journal, Consumer Reports, Morningstar et al. The website is always current and well organized with a wealth of activities and programs for all ages and interests ranging from book clubs, children live shows, story times, movies and more. Saving the best for the last, the staff are so approachable and knowledgeable going out of their way to offer the highest level of library service. In summary, the best kept secret library resource in town, bar none.

It's not a good place to study if you dislike roaches, spiders or centipedes. I used to come here consistently in November and December of 2021 to study for a major exam. It was my best option, since state libraries get very cold. Every day of November and December, the insects seemed to multiply- one time a centipede even crawled on my toe. And I chose to ignore it at that time. Today, March 2022, I came to study again for a minor exam and the problem seems to have gotten worse. It looks like insects are just constantly swept to the side, month after month! But that's just my speculation. I made sure to get pictures so that hopefully someone can do something about this gross problem. Even the bathroom sign says the trash isn't taken out every day. Gross!
