This review has been a long time coming. In my opinion, Mold Masters is one of the most unethical companies I've ever dealt with. From the top down, I believe the business reflects a disturbing lack of integrity and moral compass. I echo the concerns shared by other reviewers about their employee Oscar. In my personal experience, he behaved in an extremely sleazy and inappropriate manner inside my home and as an elderly woman, I found his presence disturbing and entirely unprofessional. In my opinion, no household with vulnerable individuals--especially children, women, or the elderly--should ever consider hiring Mold Masters. I was not at all surprised to read other allegations about theft and misconduct. What I personally witnessed and experienced by Oscar made me deeply uncomfortable and fearful for my safety and those in my home. The business owner, Austin, is another reason I would never recommend this company. In my opinion, he has a frightening temper and is incredibly difficult to communicate with. Each time I had to speak with him, I felt a genuine sense of anxiety due to his explosive attitude. That's no way to run a service-oriented business. And if you needed further evidence of this company's lack of transparency--take a look at the photo "Austin" uses to represent himself on yelp's webpage. In my opinion, it's shockingly deceptive. The man in that photo looks nothing like him--completely different race, hair color, and overall appearance. If you're hiding behind someone else's image, what else are you willing to lie about? In my experience, Mold Masters dramatically overcharged for work that was questionable at best. I believe they take advantage of consumers like myself in stressful situations and exploit their vulnerability. California law (B&P Code §7159) limits contractor deposits to no more than $1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less. If a contractor ever demands more than $1000 upfront deposit -- that's a red flag. If you value honesty, professionalism, and basic decency--in my personal opinion--AVOID Mold Masters at all costs. I truly regret ever letting them through my door. Response to Owner comments: Even your response here, unfortunately, reflects the same disingenuous behavior I experienced while dealing with your company. You write that the court "found this person liable for damages," which is misleading and deceptive. Many people may choose to settle an unpleasant situation--not because the claims were legitimate or the conduct acceptable. As far as I'm concerned, I refuse to and have not voluntarily given an additional dime to a business that tried to take advantage of an elderly person. Also, your use of the word "found" falsely implies that there was a trial where the court acted as a fact finder--evaluating evidence, hearing testimony, and reaching conclusions about the quality of your work. That never happened. What you should be addressing in your response "Austin" or whoever you are in that photo- are the real consumer concerns raised in this review: * Are you demanding more than $1,000 in deposits in violation of California law (B&P Code §7159)? * Is Oscar, your employee, engaging in inappropriate behavior with vulnerable consumers in their homes? * And most bizarre of all--why are you using a photo on Yelp that is clearly not you? Consumers deserve transparency, especially from someone entering their home. This review is not "revenge" or "retribution." It took time to write precisely because I was navigating legal threats during the dispute. Once the dust settled, I felt it was my responsibility to warn others. These guys did a phenomenal job. Our shower ceiling was moldy and needed removal and remediation. Austin came over. Got back quickly with a bid. Work started 2 days later. The first crew zipped up the bathroom area and laid paper to protect the floor. The removal took a day. Then, Manny came over, installed a new drywall ceiling. They painted it the next day. Then, they went to work on the tiles. That process took another day or so to clean and properly seal them. The shower stall looks brand new. I'm not kidding. I'm kind of amazed. These guys were really nice, and they were very clean. They put paper down from the bathroom all the way to the front door. read more

Mold Master's came and conducted Mold testing and found that we had Mold in our home. They quoted us a bill well over $10,000 for about 120 square feet of work. We are first time homeowners so naturally we believed this is what mold remediation costs. But, our parents who have been homeowners for over 30 years advised us to get 2nd and 3rd opinions. After contacting another testing company who did not also offer remediation we confirmed that we did have mold. We reached out to 3 other remediation companies and all 3 quoted us under $3500 for the same job Mold Masters suggested. I never want to write bad reviews but we were about to be taken advantage of. BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER I worked with Oscar and Austin to conduct a mold inspection. They were excellent at communicating what the process would be, the timeline and the cost. They even offer rush service. Oscar was incredibly knowledgeable, explaining what he was doing, what he was looking for and why. He was kind and understanding that if he's at a location, the owner obviously is worried and has concerns. He's just a good person all around. I had scheduled for inspection with Oscar. He came didn't even look at any room he wanted to see my bedroom first. While we were in the bedroom he stole my money from my purse and put it in his pocket. I confronted him he denied them once my family members came and I said I would call the cops he took out the money. We ended up calling the police. It took 7 hours for the company to email us back and no one called back. This is not a safe company to work with especially when your asking them to look for mold. We had a mushroom grow from the bathroom ceiling. That freaked me out! Turns out the apartment above us was leaking water from their toilet onto our ceiling for an unknown period of time. Disgusting. I dealt with Austin Reid and I must say that my situation was handled very professionaly from beginning to end. Total rip off! They sent somebody to test for mold. Came back with a test that showed levels of Stachybotrys (toxic mold) found in the air sample. They then of course suggested expensive remediation work. Being skeptical, I had a test to confirm the findings by an independent company that does not do any remediation work at all. Guess what? NO MOLD whatsoever of any kind was found. I highly suggest that you NEVER under an circumstances have a company that does remediation work also do the testing. Why? because it's in THEIR best interest, not yours that there will be mold. Even if your insurance company is covering the cost, why go through the mess? Just say no. read more

We had a mold issue that I needed remediated ASAP, with Christmas around the corner. The day we discovered the mold, Monday, I called a couple places. Austin from Mold Masters was able to send a guy out just a couple hours later to assess the situation. Right after, I was emailed a proposal with a price. From the time of first contact to the proposal was, I think, 3-4 hours! They started at 7:30am Tuesday morning. They sealed up the area thoroughly, with heavy plastic from floor to ceiling. The guy that came on Monday to assess already noted to me to expect that there would be staples in the ceiling to keep the plastic up to form the seal. We haven't taken the plastic down yet (still need contractors to repair the walls, so we'll use it to keep the dust in), but I noticed they laid down painters tape first, then they sprayed that with an adhesive to stick the plastic to, then they sealed both sides with additional tape. In the house, outside of the sealed work area, they put two industrial HEPA filters to run while they did their work to remove mold spores from the air that were already in the room. The actual removal was all done in that first day of work, Tuesday. They left two dehumidifiers in the work area to dry everything out, and moved one of the HEPA filters into the work area (and left one out in the living space). All day Wednesday was just the dehumidifiers and filters running constantly, no workers. I did go into the work area and noticed some staining on the concrete floor where the footing of my built-in cabinets had been moldy. I notified Austin by email about them, as I wanted to make sure that all mold was killed, even if there's a stain. I was contacted within an hour or two that they'd be over at 7:30am to look at it and do what they could to clean it up. It's unclear if it was mold or just staining, but they sanded it off and retreated it with their chemicals. At that point, the job was done. They collected their equipment and the final payment. Austin was easy to work with and very responsive, Oscar, who managed the project, was also very good, as were Edgar (one of the guys that did the removal) and his partner (I didn't catch his name). Overall, I'm very happy with how quickly we were able to get this taken care of. Getting the mold out, once we knew about it, was a big concern since we have two young children. Plus, with cabinets out and the wall exposed, there was a very clear musty smell from the mold that we didn't sense before. The job was fairly straight-forward, since the moldy areas were relatively limited, but they did a good job getting it done quickly, and they cleaned up everything nicely. read more

After getting the results back, they were right on time at 7 am sharp for our apponitment, and gave us an extensive explanation of the process that was about to take place. I cannot express how extremely professional these folks are. I had a very bad mold problem in a room which was originally sealed during construction. When I opened up the room a few months later, there was a classic case of major mold infestation since the room had no ventilation. I called Mold Maters on a Monday. They were out there that same afternoon to scope out the issue. After agreeing to a price, they came out the next morning and took out a medium sized room worth of drywall, including ceiling. They didn't leave a single trace of debris. Nothing. They had covered up all the pathways they would use in the house and cleaned up every last speck. They told me they would be back a few days later to pick up the dehumidifiers that needed to left running. They told me they would be here at 9:00 on a Saturday and they showed up precisely at 9:00am. In summary - Mold Masters representatives (every single one of them - from consultation to the folks doing the hand work) were extremely kind, professional, punctual and clean. Right after the rain season and in the middle of the school term, the presence of mold was detected in the crawling space of one of the buildings. I decided to get a second estimate from another company and they gave be a long formal estimate which was what I am used to. Mold Masters at my request did a formal estimate and didn't change their original estimate. When they got started Oscar, who oversaw the job, made sure everything was done to the estimate, went over the extent of the damage and what they found, gave us advice on what needs to be done when we started to close up the exposed areas.
