MOHICAN BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL.... I just returned from the festival. The festival itself is amazing and in a beautiful setting. There were 4 food vendors (the warm apple dumplings with vanilla ice cream was amazing!!!!), music was great. It was a really good event and I would go back The negative... I bought my ticket online about 6 months early for $54 but it's actually $50 if you pay cash when you arrive. I got there and the head lady said that my ticket was already scanned and to get in I would have to buy another ticket. That would be $100 for a one day bluegrass entry. After 1/2 hour of her saying that I had to have sent my ticket to somebody, which I didn't (that would be stupid and makes no sense) she finally let me in after making ne feel like I was a scumbag trying to cheat the system. I will NEVER buy a ticket ahead of time to the Mohican bluegrass festival. Note... I've never had problems with tickets at any other bluegrass festival. read more

Stayed in Site 329 7/12-7/15 We bought a camper 3 years ago. When we came here last time was 15-20 years ago as a tent camper. MANY updates have been made to this place. We both are done with state parks. Mohican Wilderness is our go to campsite. Dont fight with packed loud state parks. Go here. Trust me. Please see the pic with the sign "Quiet Refuge" if this appeals to you this may be the campground of your dreams. Pros: They are deadly serious about not being inconsiderate. Even during the day. Want to crank your radio? You will get told to turn it down so it cant be heard off your site. *I* will be the person that reported you (after I told you once you are annoying me) Staffed really well Office staff was very accommodating and professional. Constantly doing maintenance on the property. (I hear chainsaws and lawnmowers far off in the distance!) Put your trash in bags by the roadway every hour they come by and take it. Spots are clean - Spacious - and did I mention quiet? For a campground with 250 sites they have 7 pump out stations. The pump out stations are setup great too. Didn't need to pull out the long hose. water pressure was VERY high which was great for back washing my black tank. Shower houses are pretty convenient Discount program for subsequent stays all the way to 30% off. No cellphone service We did the 5 mile Kayak trip on Monday and it was nice. Because of where our trip went it was clear of other people on the river. Everything they have is well maintained. From the Kubota/John Deere Zero turn mowers to the Ford Transit vans they use for the river trips. The whole place looks clean and inviting. Cons: No cellphone service. Wow the pit toilets are horrendous. I mean seriously. WOW. Dual seats? lol It is FAR from everything- This might be a Pro. read more

We are avid campers and when I tell you this is not the place you want to go, I truly mean it for you best interest. Please I beg you to read all the 1 star reviews as they all have the exact same theme. Management are extremist who act like superior dictators. You are subject to their unfair rulings and absurd practices. They FREQUENTLY call the police, they do not warn you of any violations or issues, they just kick you out and take your money, refusing to repay you. Not to mention their facilities are DISGUSTING. They also up charge you for every single extra person onsite. If you have more then 2 adults and one child, you will get charged per day. As if getting charged isn't bad enough, they also will take all the fun out of the entire experiences by all their "rules" and say you are "excessively nosy" for something as simple as a sneeze. I highly HIGHLY encourage you to read the reviews and their rules before you decide to book here. And if you do book here, be warned, you will be treated like servants with a king looking to reprimand someone. read more

What a great location. We spent the weekend in the north side with a very large group in the Narrows. It was such a great spot and some great spots on the river. The only downfall, the main road runs down the west side of the Narrows, which can get a bit loud with motorcycles and trucks. The showers were okay, but wear water/shower shoes. It is not up to par with some of the state campgrounds like Alum Creek. FYI: there is ZERO cell phone service, and the only way to make a call is to cross the swinging bridge across the river and hike almost ¼ mile up the hill out of the valley to get service. This message is for anyone who is planning a fun weekend with friends or a special occasion camping trip . I highly encourage you to find a DIFFERENT campground. I have been camping for close to 30 years and never had such a horrible experience as with Mohican Wilderness. Yes, Mohican Wilderness does have zero tolerance policy with any kind of noise ....above a Whisper. The staff patrols the entire campground like nazis waiting to target any group that violates their strict code of conduct. The front desk staff has no clue how to register incoming campers. The shower houses were in deplorable condition. I think taking a shower in the Mohican river would have been a better option. However, If you like being harassed while camping in subpar conditions plus having the sheriff called on you for laughing too loudly. Then this is your place for sure. Otherwise Save your money and find another campsite where you can have a 'normal' enjoyable camping experience. FYI-If they can chase out middle aged suburban women from their campgrounds then just about anyone is fair game including families with noisy children. Take this as my warning to you. Plenty of other nice, clean campgrounds & lodging at Mohican State Park. SAVE your money and go elsewhere. read more

We have stayed here numerous times. Campsites are very spacious and the staff is amazing. There is a swimming pond, kayak and tube rental right at the campground. This park is very large (take a bicycle) but please note that golf carts are not permitted. This is a beautiful place to spend a weekend with your family or friends. The pricing is reasonable and the views are amazing. One of our favorite places to spend our summer weekends. read more

Beautiful campgrounds but since the new owner has taken over, it's been ridiculous on rules, rules, rules. We have been going here for over 15 years and if you want a camping trip with nothing but silence then is the place. The sheriff is out patrolling every night and in your business even if you are following the rules. You also better be in bed by quite time otherwise they'll be saying something to you even if it's just the kids playing a board game. Their lots are one of the most expensive around. A tree fell on a camper on a Saturday and they were going to make the people pay for the lot on Sunday if they couldn't get it towed. They offered them no help or concern other than to move the fallen tree. They've screwed up on reservations on several occasions. I will be looking for a new campsite along the river next year. read more

This is by far the best family friendly campground in the Mohican area. The sites are 3 times as big as any other campground. The price for camping, canoeing and other activities can't be touched. The local artisans' are terrific for children and they love the interaction. What a wonderful gem of beautiful, peaceful, tranquil landscape. We will continue to visit many times every summer. The Bluegrass Festival was amazing!! National talent in such a wonderful setting. read more

We didn't camp here but did the 4 mile inner tubing ride on the Mohican river. It was awesome! The three of us and an inflatable cooler drifted down the river while basking in the summer sunshine and sipping adult beverages. The staff in the visitor office was friendly and helpful. Nothing negative to report for this experience. read more

I've been here the past two years and enjoy coming here. Campsites are spacious and the staff is very friendly. Restrooms are your typical campground bathrooms. It's good to go with a group if you're tubing so you can drop a car off. All in all there's plenty of things to do so you'll never be bored. read more

After many years being a regular to this campground things have finally changed. "Under new management " and it shows. New attitudes also. Be very concerned about your behavior or you will be asked to leave. Our 10 and under kids were playing dominos at 9:30, listening to a radio and were warned by the patrolling security to keep the noise down. Do not want to return. read more

Mohican Wilderness is the BEST campground! I've camped there at least once (usually more) every summer for the past 18 years and always had a great experience. The sites are huge, pricing is reasonable, setting is tranquil, and there are tons of activities if you choose to utilize them. The horseback riding takes you through beautiful trails on quality horses. There are plenty of canoeing/tubing options, and all of them land you right back in the campground. No waiting for a bus to pick you up after a long canoe ride like other places I've been. Over the canoe landing is a gorgeous and unique swinging bridge that takes you across the river to hiking trails. Historic and educational sites/plaques are scattered through the property. There are also a ton of other things to do - candle making, mini golf, craft making, bike rentals, archery, nature center, weaver, blacksmith, etc .... And come September, the infamous Mohican Bluegrass Festival. No way you could get bored here! That said, it's also a brilliant place to just sit back, relax, and enjoy nature. Others who mentioned dirty bathrooms and poison ivy must not be avid campers. For a campground, the bathrooms are just fine. Sure, some of the facilities aren't sparkling clean, but there is a very nice, updated shower house with clean bathrooms and free showers near the office that can be utilized if you prefer that to the smaller outhouses that are scattered generously through the campground. read more

This is one of the worst campgrounds we have ever tent camped at. The sites are big but they are also crawling with poison ivy, including areas where you put put your inner tubes in the river. The "bathroom" close to our site was the most disgusting one I have ever seen. It resembled a third world country and was so fly infested I wanted to vomit. The "nice" bathroom that you had to pay a quarter to use the shower for 5 minutes looked like something from the county jail and didn't look like it had been cleaned in years. The staff was rude and not helpful at all. We will NEVER camp at Mohican Wilderness again. Their website is full of lies about clean updated bathrooms and access to the shooting range. read more

I will start with the good: Pretty location Some nice employees Cool stage for their outdoor bluegrass festival The not so good: We rented a cabin for 3 nights. It cost $100/ night plus tax and an additional $50 deposit for each key for the masterlock on the door. When we arrived, they had forgot to record my payment and had also charged my sister in full for our cabin. They corrected it, but didn't think they caused any inconvenience and were treating us like they really didn't care that it had. We were told to bring our own sheets and towels. We get to the cabin to find cigarette butts all over, holes in the floor, walls, door, and the perimeter of the cabin where the walls meet the roof all open - so there were hundreds of bugs in there. The mattresses on the bed were only 3 or 4 inches thick, were filthy, holey, and had bugs and small worms coming out holes and on top of them. There is no bsthroom in the cabin, you have to walk down a steep, unlit trail with big roots to get to a dirty outhouse with no sink. Some of the shower houses you have to feed coins in to get water for the shower, some you do not. There's no mirrors in most of the bathrooms and no hand towels or hand air dryers in any of them that do have sinks. They told us guests would just make a mess with hand towels. They treat you as if you are a burden to them and they charge extra for everything. The cabins are basically a roof over your head should it rain and not worth $100. I don't mind rustic, but not being covered on bugs all night for a 100 dollar cabin isn't too much to ask. They did let us check out early and after much complaining, and refunded our money. There are many other options in the area, with nice, hospitable people. You don't want to stay here. read more

Me and my family have been to quite a few camp grounds, but this one is by far the best. It is clean and well maintained, and they have a lot of activities for kids and adults. My favorite of which is archery. If you're adventurous, you can take a canon trip down the Mohican river. Mohican wilderness also has a lot of season activities. We stayed in 2 of the 3 cabins for the weekend and had a great time. The cabins have running cold/hot water, mini fridge, two burner open flame type to cook on, as advertised. This is not a sealed/contained cabin, it is rustic in how it's built, some openings to the outside, no complaints. The canoeing and rafting was a lot of fun. There is plenty to do, putt putt, canoeing, horseback riding, candle making, swimming, etc, it's a solid camp ground. Those that complain about the cabins or wash houses must not be familiar with camping. The shower houses had privacy, flush toilets and electric - that's pretty standard. The ones we used had individual stall/toilet with a locking door. To judge a public shower house as clean or dirty, I'd say these were clean. We enjoyed the stay and had a great time. read more

RUDE office staff. Gave us a site on a hill no way to pull out camper on and park. Reserved site 2 months earlier and they put us in an unusable site. Manager lady very rude. Got a refund and had to find another place to camp. Her additude was don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Would never recommend ! read more

I had a great time with my friends on the river and the staff at the store fifteen minutes up the road (Pappy's?) were incredibly helpful, but the staff at Mohican seem to be uneducated on their rates and available spaces. When addressed over the phone, we were informed that there were no additional charges for our site unless we had a party greater than four. When we checked in, the woman at the register charged four dollars per person. When I questioned another staff member about it the next day, I was then told there were no additional charges for the first two people only, but eight dollars per person after that...? We also couldn't help but notice that they sold inner tubes there, but they only transport their rentals; long story short, if you want to use your own tubes, you'd best have two vehicles or you're going to have a VERY long walk later... and this policy was enforced this year due to one customer's tube popping during transport. Lastly, the woman checking us in only gave us two options for a campsite, and both were right next to another group of campers, even though there were plenty of other sites available around us. All in all, it's a great location, but you may want to check out one of the other campgrounds in the area. read more

We really love this place. There's lots to do and plenty of space. The ONLY downfall is the sheriff/security. At promptly 11pm he rolled up to tell us our music was bothering our neighbors - problem is our neighbors were our friends and were sitting right next to us! And, by the way, when I returned from the bathroom I had to get within 15 feet of our speaker in order to hear anything more than murmured sounds. Otherwise, the place is great - friendly staff, friendly campers and very relaxing. read more

We booked camping and a canoe trip at mohican wilderness with a group of youth. Hands down the worst experience we have ever encountered. The staff of young people running the place were very rude and disrespectful. When we tried to express our dissatisfaction they responded with " oh well" we will never go back. To many things went wrong to list them all. Impossible to work with the staff. For the past 5 years we have camped throughout Ohio and several places in the mohican area and mohican wilderness is hands down the worst place we have ever stayed. read more

We have been coming to this campground for almost 20 years. We are never going back! While they've made some lovely cosmetic changes, there is a serious problem here...they've hired the Sheriff's Dept. as security. Let me explain: We had a group that rented about 8-10 sites (which are huge, but not cheap). Everyone paid...even the dogs. Our sites were together on the River side, across the street and in either direction to the stage. At 10:00pm on a Saturday night, we turned off the music completely and all the families gathered around the fire. With 30- 50 people, conversation can be loud; however, there was no 'whooping it up' or yelling. It was just talk. My husband was on his way back from the bathroom when a golf cart came flying up with no lights on. "Hey! Turn your lights on!' my husband said. The driver, Sheriff, replied, "Well, that defeats the purpose." My husband informed the officer that he could easily hit one of our kids and was wondering what IS it he was trying to CATCH us doing?? We were asked to be quiet. We complied. Or at least really tried...sshh sshh each other regularly. Yet, when you walked only one site away, which was part of our group, it wasn't that loud! About 30 minutes later the Sheriff returned. More people from our party dispersed and, again, we were pretty quiet. This time, however, we were more than a little annoyed. We WERE NOT disturbing anyone because we had all the sites in the area. It was now a matter of control. Being a responsible, middle aged professional, I don't need the Sheriff shushing me at 10:30pm on a Saturday night! All the while, the officer and a park worker hung in the shadows, eavesdropping on our conversations. At about 11-11:30 pm, the park worker approached me in a very 'huffy' demeanor and said he was one of the owners. He then disclaimed that he 'knows we all didn't pay and they got a complaint by the stage!!' I replied, "You have one complaint and 50 paying customers. We also don't appreciate the Sheriff's dept. spying on us and rolling up with lights off to 'catch' us doing something.' Sheriff's reply? "Well, what's wrong with that?" A lot sir. A lot. NO ONE is returning after this scene. Mohican Wildershush is done. read more

I will never return or stay at this campground again. I will say the staff is very friendly and the campground itself is awesome however they have the local sheriff department patrol the grounds. We had a group of about 20 of us stay the night for 2 nights this past weekend. The sheriff came out on Friday night BEFORE quiet hours to inform us our music was too loud and we needed to turn it down and he even said that's too loud to have on during the day. We turned it down and lowered our voices. He came back about 30 minutes later to tell us the same thing so we turned the music off completely and tried to be as quiet as we could. We had the surround 5 sites in the back corner of this campground where there was 1 site beside us of 8 people drinking and partying and another site close to us with people partying so no one else even close to our sites. Well Saturday night was the real issue. We were playing some games and had the radio on (not blasting by any means). Once again here comes the sheriff, a different man than the night before who had another guy with him also. He told us to be quiet and turn the music off, which we then did. Later on these 2 sheriffs came back (only for a second time in the night) and came strolling up on their golf cart and intruding our site they pushed a member of our group, the only minority in our group, and told us he had already been there 4 times and told us to keep it down and that he was going to start citing tickets to us all. We were not yelling, screaming, anything. We were talking, TALKING among-st ourselves. The site beside us the people were also talking and playing music but they did not get ambushed by these sheriffs. Well the guy continued to scream and tell us we need to go to bed then asked questions and we replied. Well he took that as arguing with the sheriff and then put one member of our group under arrest and placed him in handcuffs for literally doing nothing. It escalated from there with the officer stating "I am simply trying to make a point". I think it's illegal to arrest someone to make a point to be quiet. Long story short the sheriff had let our friend go since we agreed to just go in our tents and go to bed. This sheriff was completely unreasonable as we had 5 sites with no one around and talking upon ourselves. If you have a group of friends I would NEVER recommend coming to this campground as you won't be allowed to talk to one another past 10pm. I will be contacting the sheriff department as well as this campground. read more
