All these old reviews don't do this place justice. There's a new owner as of 14 months ago. This place is a lot better than it used to be. I only come here to get my car washed. The sprayers always work perfectly. The guy who owns it is amazing and has helped me out a couple times when it comes to not having cash, I just Venmo him. If there's ever an issue with a machine he fixes it right away. One time I had this big oil stain in my leather passenger seat, that I thought would never come out, he came over right away and got it out in three minutes and didn't even charge me. Awesome service. Amazing customer support. Would give this place a 10 out of 5 if I could. read more

My favorite drive through car wash. Bring a microfiber rag or purchase one because there is not blow dry. The price is super affordable for a detailed car wash. It's DIY but if you move relatively quick you can have a great wash for under $7 which is cheaper than any car wash. It's touch less which is also great if you don't want to scratch up your paint coat on your car. read more

It is a good price. However, the machine didn't seem to work well, especially when it came to the soap function. I felt that barely any soap came out. The rinse free solution isn't really dependable as my when my car dried, there were still dry spots. (I didn't have time to wipe my car dry). Be careful with low riding cars because when pulling forward to exit the stall, there is a steep downward incline. read more

I love to see businesses like Mohawk surviving in redeveloped cities. Solana Beach has undergone "Highway 101 Westside Improvement" recently and most of the businesses live in shiny new buildings. Mohawk Car wash is like a breath of fresh air in a cement jungle. This 4 bay, do it yourself car wash has a prime location on highway 101 and shares a location with Shine Auto detail. It is really convenient for me to stop in and wash or vacuum Black Betty. The wash itself offers a full lineup of car treatments, car wash, foam, polish, high speed wash, etc. There is even a little sink with an old school style hand washing roller system that looks like an antique. I pump the machine full of quarters so I can not attest to the reviews regarding their credit card charges and you should too. I like to clean my own car and Mohawk makes it easy and fun. Small businesses like this are few and far between, retail rents top $32.00 a square foot so most business' maximize their revenue with expensive food or merchandise. I would like to thank the owners of this humble car wash for not selling out to corporate America. When I stop or drive by Mohawk it reminds me of days past when people took the time to wash their own cars and businesses did not have gigantic overhead in emerging hip zones. read more

I actually liked this place, simple and convenient. What I don't like is that when I thought my car wash was costing 5 bucks it was costing 15. I checked my statement and this happened at least 4 times, I sent the owners an email, they never got back to me. They have to know about it based on some other reviews, surprised they havent been shut down at this point. This is one of my favourite businesses in San Diego. I drive past five other carwash places to come here. This operation is attended and the people are on it -- keep the machines well operating and all the soaps and products topped up. If you've got sand in your car then ignore the vacuums in front of the bays and instead go to the south end of the parking lot where there are two high suction vacuums that go up to turbo level! I can wash my car here in about 10 minutes for $8, and you can't really say fairer than that. Great value. read more

Love this carwash! I always take my car here and I love it... The employees and owners have been so helpful and constantly give me tips and tricks. They explained that when you use your credit card it will automatically charge you $15 and then you will get a refund in the new few days with your cost deducted. I always go here to wash my car. It's a self serve car wash so it always gets the job done but since at least March all of the soap functions have barley been working. Like a little sad soap sputter. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and went and paid again a different day, however the same thing happened. I had previously asked if its ok to bring my stuff (soap, bucket, etc) and got the ok from the owner; came in, and 2 stalls were closed - the employee was a jerk telling me I can't use my stuff once I had already started and paid (there were no ppl waiting - I was literally the only one) and the guy was rushing me for no particular reason. I didn't even spend more than 15 minutes on my car and the guy was acting as if I was holding up the line, when in fact, he seemed to have not had his stalls ready for other ppl that were coming in. This place seems to attract clueless boomers that will use that crappy brush and add swirls all over their cars and still pay 10+ dlls for a wash they have to perform themselves; they seem to be unaware that places like washman and soappy joes exists and charge between $8-$10 and get free vacuuming. If you care a about the paint of your car, avoid using the brush in places like this, if you care about costs and are trying just to wash your car for cheap this place is not for you, its $5 dlls to start, and I was charged twice! the amount of $20 for a cool total of $40 dlls while the employee in charge was being a total jerk rushing me just because I was using my own mitt and I left without completing my wash (since the employees were totally unfriendly and were even smoking around the stalls - imagine if you avoid smoking in your car, and these guys just stink up your interior) tl;dr; avoid this place if you are trying to wash for cheap, there are much cheaper and better equipped alternatives in SD. If you thought this was a place for enthusiasts in Solana Beach to come in and wash your car with care and ease, avoid it, its just another overpriced dinky self serve oh, and then there's that racists logo read more

When I ended the wash the display showed a ten dollar charge. Today, my bank account shows an even $15.00 charge. I've been using this carwash for the past 6 years. As much as anyone posting here, I cherish the few old school business remaining on this stretch of 101. Rather than hassle with the owner, I'll accept and eat what appears to be a four dollar plus overcharge. First, I paid 5 dollars and nothing was coming out of the hose. So I pressed the red button and it ended my transaction charged me with 4:45 left to go. That was my first 5 down the drain. Second attempt, got the foam to come out and it goes slow enough to take almost 10 minutes to get my truck completely soaped. Started to rinse and hit the 15 minute max. At this point, I'm out 20 bucks and have to put the card back in to finish the rinse. After completing my car was i was out another 10, at this point my total is 30. I figured that i would go to the dry station but they don't offer any rags after you pay for a wash. It cost an extra 2 dollars and it's cash only. So I wasn't able to dry my truck. Finally, I pulled forward to the vacuum to clean the inside... Again it was cash only! Save your money and go to soapy joes which is 18 bucks for the best car wash plus you get to vacuum inside and use rags for free. read more

I went to Mohawk Car Wash in Solana Beach for the first time 2/17/23. I used 5 one dollar bills and went smoothly. (As some reviews had stated their credit card experience had accidently over charged) I used the nozzle sprayer (not the brush) as I get nervous about scratches when brushes are used. The pressure in the sprayer was really powerful and cleaned beautifully in five minutes, which is the amount of time you get for the 5 bucks. Three minutes to soap it up and two minutes to rinse. I didn't use any of the other spray options. I just wiped it down myself to dry. (They have vacuums of course, but I use my hand held at home for that) My full service car wash a couple miles closer to my house went from $12 to $25 in a year and I really never knew if I'd find a new scratch, lose another emblem or find my mirrors out of whack. Plus, I just really like doing it myself. It was such a pleasure to find this place in beautiful Solana Beach as my main objection to self serve has always been the sketchy locations. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!! I wanted a quick car wash that I could do by myself and ended up with a nightmare. $3 minimum which doesnt give you enough time to wash the car and you have to change it from rinse to soap and stuff by yourself. The vacuum was $1.25 and it barely sucked anything up, I ended up only vacuuming my front seat. When I checked my bank account the next day the car wash had charged me for 1) a $15 instead of $5 and 2) they charged me $15 twice for a grand total of $30!!!!!!!!!!!!! $30 for the worst car wash EVER.
