You know, when you enter a Chinese restaurant full of Chinese guests, that means they are great at what they are doing. Same here, the place was full of Turkish customers, so I was confident that this will be an authentic kebab, nothing fancy but good old meat, salad, sauce and pitta. And I was right! Food is great and even though it can busy in the evening, I was always in and out in less than 10 minutes. Their opening hours are great, they also deliver and you can also pre-order for collection.

The menu is pure kebab shop, the usual array of kebabs on pitta, chips or naan, I plumped for the mixed doner on naan. Service was quick, and in the 10 or so minutes I was in the shop, another two punters came in, this was late on a Sunday, so that's a good sign. Home, and I unwrapped the kebab, there was a lot of salad, a lot of sauce and a lot of meat, I demolished it in double quick time and was struggling at the end, so it was literally a feed for £5.70. I'll be back, good late night filling grub,

The Signs outside are dilapidated and the interior is basic with all the space dedicated to the showcasing of the food on offer, but with seating space outside if you want it ( that is fortunately covered to hide you from Belfast's real "charms") this isn't an issue. What matters here is the food, and oh mama is it good! The sandwiches are all freshly made on site with fine local ingredients. There are a wide range of choices, whilst you can order up anything you would want just by asking. The man who runs the shop is a chatty and friendly person who is one of these people who seems to know everyone around town!He also knows what I want usually before I say anything which is probably a poor reflection on me.... but I can't help loving their white rolls with chicken, ham, stuffing and cranberry sauce, it is like Christmas in a sandwich! There are a changing variety of daily soups and stews, and other options like mini frys and sodas to appease those who want something a little different. Everything is reasonably priced too, which is another bonus. I personally loathe the "sandwiches" at subway with their mediocre bread, processed fillings and scandalous prices, and I wish people would abandon them for places like this which have quality food at a price that doesn't stretch the pockets!

Sarnies, good name by the way (i'm a fan of it, I don't know why but there is something quaint and local about it) is situated just off Royal Avenue so it's perfect for the lunch time shopper and or tourist. When I landed down I had a meatball sub which I'm not too sure if they do now as I didn't see it last time on the menu. The meatballs were lightly spiced in a rich silky marinara sauce, loaded with sticky cheese on a submarine roll. All that for under £3 cannot be beaten. Check it out.

It has recently been crowned best Kebab shop in the UK which is something that can't go unnoticed. I hadn't been here in a little while until a recent 'secretsupperclub' event was nearby and I thought to myself I must get one soon..... so I did. Like always I would go for the original kebab on bread with salad and the special Sphinx Sauce, if you have not tried this yet you are missing out! The kebab meat is real actual steak / beef pieces which tastes great especially compared to the rubbery meat other Belfast Kebabs have to offer. I speak really highly of this place because it is awesome food, but I do feel the portion sizes have also skimped over the years I also got a chip with my order and the chips literally covered the plastic container they came in and that was it. Even the size of the kebab looks as though it has shrunk down in size. Which is why sadly this is no 5 star rating for the Sphinx. That being said, if you are in the mood for a kebab you have to hit the best in town.... Which is the Sphinx, you will not be disappointed!
