Like some of the other reviewers, I've also had some negative experiences with this office. Dr. Aiyegbusi is a very intelligent doctor, however, her bedside manner can be downright rude at times and I've had enough. The first couple visits I could definitely tell that she was not the friendliest doctor, and she was also impatient. But like I said, I can tell she knows her stuff and she is competent, so I was fine with just going in and making sure everything was okay with me. But this last visit was the worst. In general, she doesn't like if you ask questions--she just wants to run the show and then rush out of the room. She was fine and cordial while going through my test results from my physical during my appointment, but then after she was done talking she just headed toward the door to leave without asking me if I had any questions or concerns, which I did. So I said, "Um, excuse me, Dr., I was wondering..." and she stopped, sighed heavily and stared at me with an extremely annoyed look. It was like night and day--she was fine when I was just sitting and being quiet but when I wanted to know something more she acted like I was bothering her. When I asked her my question she was very impatient, made no eye contact with me, and didn't even give me a clear response. She then proceeded to exit the room and I was confused as to if I should follow her or stay in the room, so I just followed after her and stood next to her as she typed things in her computer without saying a word to me about what she was doing. Then a nurse came and told me to go back in the room and wait, which I did. Then the nurse handed me an appointment card for my next appointment in six months--without even consulting me on which days/times work best for me! And of course the day and time they had chosen for me did not work with my schedule, so I had to reschedule it. What an unnecessary situation. Just wait and ask me my schedule before you make an appointment for me--common sense.
Before I left, I asked the doctor if I could have a certain thing checked for my next blood test in six months and she literally scoffed and said it wouldn't do me any good or give any insight into my health (I have an autoimmune disorder), so no. All it would take for her to do is to just check one check mark on my lab sheet, but she wasn't willing to do that, and if the answer is no, at least be nice about it. I left the office feeling horrible. She treated me like I was bothering her for simply asking two questions. She's just one of those doctors who wants you to take your medicine and be quiet. In reality, I as a patient have a right to know what's going on with my body and a doctor should encourage you to be proactive about your health and at the very least make you feel like they care about you. I felt the exact opposite after my appointment.
At home, I went over my test results on my own and was concerned about one area being in the out-of-normal range. She didn't think it was a big deal during my appointment, but I felt uneasy about it, so I called the office to ask for a referral to a specialist. The receptionist questioned me about why I wanted the referral and made me explain to her in detail, then offered me her advice, which was very dismissive. I didn't know that the receptionist was qualified to give me medical advice. Isn't that the doctor's job? So I had to re-state firmly--I would still like to see if the doctor would give me a referral, and she said very begrudgingly, "Well, I'll have to see if the doctor gives an O.K." It's been four days and they haven't called me back with a yes or a no. I feel like their way of dealing with requests is to just ignore them and hope they disappear. I also wonder if the receptionist was so hesitant to deliver my message to the doctor because maybe the doctor is the type of person who shoots the messenger and would be very unhappy and grumpy with the receptionist for simply delivering a patient's request.
I could have called to check on the status of my request, but I figured, why put myself through that stress? If they're going to treat me like I'm inconveniencing and annoying them, then I'll just take my business elsewhere. I switched providers with my insurance company and hopefully this new doctor I will see soon will have a much more acceptable bedside manner.
Again, Dr. Aiyegbusi is a competent doctor, however, her demeanor can be quite off-putting in certain situations. In my past experiences, her staff has been fine (like someone else said, just fine, not super friendly or anything), and the nurses who work for her are generally nice, but this last visit for me was a very unpleasant experience all around, from the doctor to her staff, so because of this I do not recommend this office. read more
