We were helped by a super kind and knowledgeable woman named Samantha who chatted with us about history behind the design of pieces as well as how she cares for and maintains the original wood of the pieces. There are some great finds but be certain to inspect all of the vintage items before you purchase as there are no returns. The service is hit or miss. So disappointed in ModMood We purchased a very expensive Adrain Pearsall sofa in October 2020. We sold our home 2 months later and asked Modmood to consign the sofa. and had to deliver it to them. They wrote an agreement that would recoup less than 50% of our purchase price. It has been more than 2 years now....we have called several times, but according to Modmood there has been no interest in this Adrian Pearsall sofa. I could spend forever in this store. It's part antique store, furniture store and garage sale all in one. I felt like a kid in a candy shop looking at everything. There are so many beautiful pieces of furniture. Some you could take right home use immediately and other ones that have so much potential. I don't think you should come here with just one particular item in mind- this is more of the type of place where you have to just see what stands out to you. The prices are higher than what you would see at an antique store or garage sale but I think the wonderful selection makes up for that. read more

Cleaned up and ready to sell. The further into the store you get the discounts increase and generally the work you must put into the pieces. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Designers may buy directly from the front. Catalogue quality. I personally found some awesome chairs and toys in the back I loved as is. You may find something you want to put some elbow grease into at a great price and with fantastic reward. Your call! Carpet samples. Catalogues to work with a designer for your space. Or browse to your content. Most of the front of store to middle is this setup. Old records. Turntables. Glassware. Paintings. Bits and bobs towards the back in the greenhouses. One of those stores you have to visit to see for yourself. Definitely something for everyone. Would come with some items in mind but let the store take you where it wants. We stumbled upon Retro Consignment while we were pulling out of the Walgreen's parking lot. It really wasn't officially open but the doors were open and there was furniture outside, so we took a swing in...and WHAT FUN! It's really actually 2 businesses - Retro Consignment is half of the huge building and the other half is called modmood which has modern furnishings. I spent more time in Retro Consignment, so I will stick with the subject (even though I could go on & on about the cool modern Dwell porn they have laying about). RC is spacious, bright and airy as it was previously a huge nursery! This puts the treasures and findings in a whole new light (no pun intended) - a nice change from the darker, windowless and enclosed "antique market" places where I usually find great pieces for my home or that special nostalgic something that makes me think of the comfort - and retro-coolness - of my grandmother's house. And in terms of pricing - an antique market it is not - I found the deals to be fair. There is something here for everyone - whether it's a classic 2-tiered side table, that pink dryer you've been looking for or that perfect wet bar for your rec room, you will have fun while you're there. We only scored a tiki mug for ourselves on this visit, but there were many more items we could have easily walked out with as well - too many treasures, too little space. The owners are great and have creative ideas - they are willing to keep their eyes peeled for something your heart desires, if you let them know. read more

This place is dangerous for me. I want so many things that they have. There is a vast inventory of very unique things and they have the capability of ordering even more. We bought a table and two arm chairs to add some interest to a Great Room. It was towards the end of the day and Kellyn said she would be happy to stay until Dolly arrived to pick up my purchases even past closing time. That was really nice. I love how it's sort of like a converted shed or something, some of the ceilings are frosted so the room is bathed in light and the breeze flows through. I was on a mission to find a unique gift for a family member who just purchased a house. I was pleasantly surprised with the inventory and unique finds in this store. The front area has a lot of modern furniture, lighting, pillows and decorative items from Europe and abroad. The back room is more like garage sale/estate sale items that have not really been cleaned or organized. The style of this store is definitely more modern and contemporary. I will definitely come back and do some shopping when I have more time. The items I saw were pretty pricey. I'm not sure if they are fair prices or not, but seemed a bit steep for a semi-consignment type store. If the prices weren't so steep I'd give this place a much better review, but most of the items were just not that affordable. read more

I just can't think of anything bad to say about modmood. This is a fun, eclectic place to spend an afternoon browsing new and used furniture and housewares. Modmood is connected to Retro Consignment, which I believe is owned by the same very cool people, and which definitely has a more vintage feel than its contemporary counterpart. Having opened relatively recently, they still have a bit of organizing to do (I think they're working on their patio/outdoor section right now), but for the most part it's really well laid-out in a couple of awesome old buildings, is reasonably priced, and is a very cool place to find what you didn't know you were looking for. read more

Wheat Ridge is so random, but this place seriously rules. I went here today in order to find a desk chair and knew I was leaving with something. Essentially I found three options priced at $25, $150 and $350. I went the $25 route since I wasn't sure if it was going to work with the desk I have but IT HAS A SECRET COMPARTMENT IN THE SEAT. How cool is that? If I had a gun I would totes hide it in there. modmood is huge. Really cute outdoor patio display and enough stuff to distract you for a good 30-60 minutes. Nice people, huge space (former nursery and greenhouse), incredible inventory... talking with Samantha, she pointed out that the area around 44th & Wadsworth is all homes mostly built in the 50s-60s-70s. They have received a TON of consignment vintage from the surrounding areas. Their new modern pieces are wonderful and I want it all. Both the side that features new as well as used are stocked with everything from classic modern, mid-century chic to down-right silly (rasta flamingos, anyone). We were very excited to find a vintage 1970's Bertoia Diamond chair which a practically never been sat in. My hubby sat in it and immediately pulled out his credit card. Sadly, given the taste of most Denverites the stock is starting to look more contemporary than truly modern. Hey, you have to give people what they want. I recently purchased a couch here and some art prints. I was on the fence about some end tables to go with it as well. I was excited to find out they delivered so i paid them to do so. They asked for my help when they arrived, even though i paid them for in house delivery. I had told them ahead of time it is on the 2nd floor. Of course i helped them but just seems like a service i paid for that they could not deliver on. They forgot the art prints i had already paid for the cleaning products for the couch and the end tables i was considering purchasing. I pointed out these black grease stains on the couch that definitely were not there when i purchased in the store (because it's a new sofa). The movers told me to call the store. The store asked for pictures Which i sent them they dropped off my cleaning products that came with the couch. And told me to contact the insurance that i had purchased on the couch. Since then i have spoken with other people who had poor experiences with them as well. I purchased the rest of my furniture from other mid mod stores in and around Denver and did not have any trouble at all. read more

We love this place! Found it after a really bad, 1-star experience at Mod Livin' and was blown away by the differences. First off, Mod Mood is huge ... like an airplane hangar full of mid-century modern consignment resales. You'll have to walk through multiple times to really get a good look at everything, but it's a fun time. On their "new" side of the building, they have reproductions of old faves, many using local artisans (not shipped in from China on a very slow boat). And their prices are very reasonable. But best of all is the staff. They are helpful, they wander the store looking for ways to help wandering customers. They love to chat about the pieces, tell you the history. They love to hear about your space and give you decorating ideas. In short, they actually care about the customer. Such a refreshing change!! read more

Normally if I dislike a place I just never go back and don't bother leaving a review. But this store has so many 4 and 5 star reviews (which got me super excited about going there) that I wanted to post my very different experience and opinion. I feel particularly strongly about it because everyone that I've talked to about this place since coming here has said "oh yeah, that place is terrible, we should have told you not to bother." I'm a fan of mid-century modern furniture and I love trolling through antique and consignment stores for weird and unique pieces, and I understand that prices can be high for something in "used" condition if it has value for its design or rarity or whatever. But the Retro side of this store took that to the extreme, with prices that I found downright insulting. The deeper you go toward the back of the store, the worse condition the furniture is in. Our first signpost of that decline was a wire frame chair with purple fabric - the fabric was pilled and covered in pet hair, and there was a giant dark stain down the middle that would obviously never come out. I believe the price tag was $1,000. I laughed out loud but convinced myself that there must be something really special and rare about this chair and we kept looking. Once we got back into the old greenhouse part of the store, everything was covered in a pretty thick coating of dust, probably because the room is extremely drafty. We found broken pieces, super generic office furniture style pieces, and things that literally belonged on a street corner for free, all with price tags that you'd expect at a high quality consignment store with strict standards. I was getting past amused and into seriously irritated, and the final straw was when I found a green fabric couch in the corner. The fabric was completely ruined and unsalvageable, which doesn't have to be a deal-breaker if the "bones" are good. But this was so badly stained and clearly weather-worn - as though it HAD been out on a street corner for free - that I would be surprised if any part of it was in usable condition even if you put in the time or money for a full reupholstering. Price tag? $399. I understand that furniture stores have high overhead for needing a lot of space. I understand that curating a used furniture store toward a certain style comes with extra expenses. Neither of those factors excuse the extortionist prices that were being attached to these broken, unusable, unsalvageable pieces of trash. The fact is, there ARE beautiful things in this store that would be a great addition to a home. But I can't trust any of their prices, or their quality control, when they're willing to charge hundreds of dollars for things they shouldn't even be willing to sell. read more

This store has a decent selection and is definitely filling a void in the mid-century antique market in the Denver metro area, however, I find it to be overpriced. I realize that I was lucky enough to purchase most of my mid century pieces well before it was what a lot of people were looking for (i.e., before Mad Men started) but IMO $999 for a chair that is possible vintage and definitely reupholstered is a little pricey. I had an incredible experience at Modmood!!! First, it began when I called the store to ask about the brand "Rowe" for a new couch. Dayna was extremely friendly and gave me all the information I needed to know about the different couch styles and fabrics! She encouraged me to email her different styles I was looking at and priced them out for me right away! I was very slow in my couch decision, but Dayna was patient and so helpful during the entire process! Her and I communicated via email and phone the entire time, and when I eventually made it into the store...Dayna couldn't have been more personable and friendly! Not only did Dayna help me, but Jim (another associate there) went above and beyond to ensure my order was complete when Dayna was out for a few days. All in all, I would DEFINITELY go back to this store! This company has the unfortunate luck of having a terribly stubborn and rude owner. He low balls anything you would like to sell for a reasonable price (like super low, even on good quality furniture) but yet when you go into the store everything is being sold for a much much higher price than when you bought your furniture new at any well known company. I know it is a business but when the owners are this greedy, inflexible and flat out disrespectful you have to wonder about who you are giving your money to. As a past customer who tried to sell, I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more
