This company is terrible. The contractor lied and gaslighted me throughout the process. I was patient for about a month and a half, but things only got worse. Because I initially trusted him, my home ended up with mold and I had to pay for treatment out of my own pocket. He only half-finished repairs because he felt guilty, and pressured me into signing the check by calling it a "partial payment" even though I was uncomfortable with it. He denied ever saying not to sign before the job was done, but when I found proof in my texts, he just shrugged it off. He also promised to call the adjuster but never did, and ignored my follow-ups.
My insurance, USAA, recommended him through their contractor selection, but he billed them for a bunch of expensive things that never happened. I reported this to the adjuster many times with no results. The contractor also dragged out the job, didn't show up for days, and repeatedly requested extensions for my lodging. There were constant lies and very few apologies that led nowhere.
Onsite, the quality of work was awful. They removed a toilet and never explained what happened to it, only to later find it wrapped up and abandoned on my deck. There were countless issues: poor painting, broken property, missing smoke detectors, broken thermostat, damaged furniture, unreturned items, uneven sheetrock, a badly installed vanity with paint all over it, grout done in the wrong color, mismatched and misaligned fixtures, and paint splattered everywhere. The only positive was the flooring guy who did a good job, and the ceiling in the kitchen and dining room. The carpet was laid poorly, with lines and unfinished edges everywhere.
When I asked to sever ties with the contractor because he kept making excuses and delaying work, my insurance said I could but only if he refunded me for anything incomplete or damaged, which of course never happened. USAA, and the adjuster in particular, seemed more interested in helping the contractor than me, despite all the evidence I provided. Documentation and accountability were practically nonexistent.
If you consider using Modification Roofing or a "preferred" contractor from your insurance, keep meticulous records and get everything in writing. Never just take someone at their word. Check up on the work every couple of days, ask tough questions, and, if possible, have someone with knowledge keep an eye on things for you. I handled things professionally, but that didn't stop this contractor from making one excuse after another, and I ended up having to sever ties because nothing was getting resolved. read more
