I was walking around by myself and stumbled upon the gorgeous main entrance of Modernism Museum, as someone who loves mid century modern esthetics I decided to see how much it would be to take a tour, low and behold it was only $10!!! The gentleman at the front was so incredibly nice and welcoming, he even took my picture for me (multiple angles and poses, seriously such a gem). Each room was crafted with care, passion, and style literally taking you back in time while also making an excellent background for all of your Instagram photos! I can not recommend this place enough, there are so many overpriced tourist traps that never end up being worth it, this was obviously created by someone who wants to share their love for the history and beauty of this city and make it available to everyone. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area!

We got lucky and came on a Thursday night when the street market was happening and admission was free. It was packed in the best way -- it felt like a community event inside the museum. The space has three floors to explore plus a gift shop with actually cool items (not the usual logo magnets your grandma collects). We ended up buying a beautiful ceramic vase for a surprisingly reasonable price, especially for a museum shop. The art itself was beautiful, with a mix of everything -- photography (my favorite medium), sculptures, ceramics, paintings, and more. I loved how many pieces represented the LGBTQ community and people of color. The stories behind the work were inspiring, and it felt good supporting a museum that prioritizes diversity. And as always, one of my favorite parts of visiting any museum is the building itself. This one is stunning -- natural, open, and thoughtfully designed. Definitely on my list of must‑do activities in Palm Springs.

Our friend was lucky enough to be able to take advantage of that. Love going to the art museums! This is a small museum but enough to see to spend a couple of hours here out of the heat. Wish we had the foresight to come at the right time to join their docent led tours. The museum was not crowded or busy when we were there on a Saturday. There were many cool contemporary art pieces. We forgot about the sculpture garden until after we had left and we were walking to our car. It can be seen from outside looking down into the garden. We'll have to remember to do that next time we're there again. Lots of free parking spaces in the lot next to and across from the museum.

It was an awesome event and we had so much fun! My son is special needs and I asked about a sensory bag and it was so cool what they provided for the sensory, which included headphones which we used for the balloon drop. The exhibits were so awesome and very engaging for my six-year-old son. His favorite exhibit was where you put scarfs into the little wind tunnel and it would come up the top. But there's so many things for all different ages, including even like 6 to 7 month old. It's such an awesome place and I wish we had something like this where we live! The staff was so friendly and so good with communicating and answering all the questions. We had such a great time for the special event of the balloon drop where they had music and crafts and they just made it feel so festive and fun. It was definitely a highlight of our day! We totally will come back next time we visit Palm Springs!

Some really cool items - all 100% authentic and not replicated as the tour guide will explain. It's free (donations accepted) and PS is lucky to have it available. Cool Vintage Collection from the 1930's…read more We came by the museum to check out the extensive collection of one man, Mr Jim Ruddy. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything that was familiar to me since the vintage treasure trove were from the depression era. I may look old but I wasn't born in the depression era. LoL! The Great Depression started in October 29, 1929. When we entered the museum a sweet elderly lady greeted us at the door. She was seated at a table behind the cast iron railing that separated the visitors from the collection. She cheerfully took our money as we handed it to her ($1/person admission fee) and asked us if we'd like to hear a little history about the museum and the man behind the collection. She proceeded to tell us the story and we were all ears. Immediately, as we passed through the entrance we were suddenly transported back in time. The items were from 1930's and early 1940's. She said everything in the museum is authentic and original recreated to display like that in a general store of that period. It was an amazing display that transported us back in time. We took our time going around the store as we tried to place ourselves back in that era: the fixtures, the signs, the products: groceries, cigarettes, hardware, clothing, hats, medicines, yarn and sewing items, beauty products, "Hallmark" cards, soaps, and toys. I mean, the Monopoly board game. had wooden pieces back in 1935. Many of the items were unused and 95% of them were filled with their original contents (medicines on the shelves). The museum is located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs on Palm Canyon Drive. In 1983, Mr. Ruddy created "Ruddy's 1930s General Store Museum" in Palm Springs, CA. He passed away in April 2017. The store is being well taken care of by his good friend... the sweet lady that welcomed us in the beginning. Review #1523

An interesting & unique experience you must see for yourself!…read more Make sure to text the number provided and make an appointment, this exhibit is now by apt only. Then you will receive a long list of rules and regulations that I suggest you read thoroughly and carefully, lol. He's quite particular, so keep that in mind, which is understandable, it's his living space after all. There is also a waiver to sign before entry. It takes up to an hour to get through the art exhibit, so pace yourself and check it all out. At the end you'll be required to purchase a piece of art, which is how the artist continues to create and keep the lights on. Also keep in mind there are not as many lights on as there used to be, and that may be due to city ordinances and what not, but the art is definitely still worth seeing, if you're into this sort of thing. Check out the images and if you're feeling it, make an appointment!

The guy was an absolute asshole from the second this disaster started…read more Our appointment got delayed an entire hour, and when His Royal Trashness finally wandered in, he had the gall to act pissed at us, like we were the ones who screwed up his schedule. He showed up shirtless, sweaty, and looking like he'd just crawled out of a dumpster. His studio? A suffocating, chaotic fire hazard--cramped, filthy, and stacked with junk. It's almost impressive how claustrophobic he made FOUR ACRES of land feel! And the "art" he's so pretentious about? Give me a break. It looked like something a bored middle-schooler slapped together during detention. Nothing meaningful, nothing profound! It's all just crude, sloppy garbage with peeling, crusty paint jobs that looked like they'd been rotting for years. Honestly, the only impressive part was how consistently awful everything was. Then this clown has the audacity to pressure us into buying something. For what? His cheap resin and 3D-printed knockoffs that probably took him two hours and negative talent to make? And he's charging $75 to TWO THOUSAND dollars like he's some tortured genius instead of a delusional hobbyist? Please. When we Venmoed him a $25 tip, he got mad, as if that was some personal offense. He said, and I fucking qoute, "Way to take the easy way out." Like, dude. NO ONE WANTS YOUR SHITTY "ART." And the cherry on top? His attitude. He strutted around like we should be grateful just to stand in his hoarder-level hazard trap and gaze upon his trash-tier "creations." He genuinely behaved like we were beneath him, which is hilarious considering the state of literally everything he touched. Easiest, most well-deserved 1/5 I've ever given. If I could give 0, I would.
